For those of you who don't know what he's talking about...On Monday nights (although I don't know how often it's running now that the season is about to begin) Aziz and some of the guys from Human Giant have a free comedy show called Crash Test at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in NYC. It's usually an hour and half to two hours and has some pretty damn good acts (i.e Dimitry Martin).

    • BobbyMC, on 07/21/2008, -1/+4UCB is the least cult driven masterpiece you will ever find, because aside from cancelling it Comedy Central decided to make it impossible for new audiences to discover after a relatively short rerun period. Anyone who saw it knows that it was the greatest sketch comedy show of all time, but of those that didn't it is entirely up to word of mouth which is incredibly hard when the DVDs are released 3 years apart and in no way supported by any actual retail chains. At least where I'm from appreciators of true comedy are few and far between so attempts to expose others to such genius only serves to make them think less of you. So, basically the only people who are UCB fans tend to be those enlightened enough to see it during it's very short 3 year run.

      That being said, not only does much of the modern Funny or Die like renaissance of comedy tie into the genius contributions of Besser, Poehler, Roberts, and Walsh... but this video in particular was the closest thing to old school UCB comedy I have seen in a LONG time. I was completely thrown off guard by it, but in retrospect it is no surprise seeing as Arnett is married to Poehler and Human Giant is a direct derivative of the UCB theater. The entire video reads like a 4th season sketch that never got made, particularly with the absurdist hummer vehicle and it being big enough to perform an abortion. A lot of comedy has used shocking comments like loving abortions as an attempt at humor, but even the successes fail to succeed in the same way as a UCB skit, which these did.

      Let's see, EVERYONE knows who Will Arnett is now, and he's married to Amy "Red Wings" Poehler. I can't help but imagine how awesome it would be if Poehler used Arnett as bait to get CC to launch a new Upright Citizen's Brigade series. He may be an "actor", but while his talents may be many he is undeniably awesome at UCB style humor as seen here and in many cases Arrested Development.

      The world needs more of this. RIGHT NOW.

It is when something actually annoys people they tend to go for the red button, and being that a majority are Arrested Development fans, they (like me) get easily annoyed by desk chair comedians recycling AD humor and continually wearing it down to the point we can't bask in its pure hilarity without being put off by memories of polo shirt wearing assclowns repeating the phrase everytime even the vaguest connection to a story occurs.
