- AdrianRice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+145I'm sorry but that's not a hair question.
- fiftyeggs, on 10/12/2007, -34/+14The way this country shivers with fear for terrorism is being mocked by two pot heads.
Yes. We need to step up, but calling the entire police force up for a litebrite set is a little too ***** up.
USA = Pussies.
P.S. I AM TOO AN AMERICAN. Just because I am American, doesn't mean that I'm always right or the best or always just. It just means that I live in America. And if you don't live here, we are pussies FYI. - Waterispoison, on 10/12/2007, -7/+79In other news, Bush announced that he plans to invade Taiwan due to it's extensive Lite-Brite production facilities.
- smojo12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27This is the greatest response to reporters I have ever heard. BUT these guys should really watch out because we all know how the judicial system will look at this case and see how unsympathetic the guys are. Granted this whole situation is so ***** stupid. The guys hung up a lite bright picture for advertisements. I'm really wondering how the situation even got to the point where they had bomb squad people blowing the ***** up. Stupid ***** people in the world today.
- CraigCarlyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+67These guys are swingin' big brass ones, freakin' hilarious.
- ohmytodd, on 10/12/2007, -5/+65This is why every other country should think we are a joke. Cause we are. This is sad, not because what these men did, but in the way our government and media reacted.
I seriously hope that Mr. Bush takes a look at this and realizes how bad he's screwed up our country.
These men are martyrs for our safety and stupidity. Wake the hell up America. Three weeks to find these things, then over-reaction of fear. The American people should be more scared that it took them three weeks to find these things.. WHAT IF IT WAS A BOMB.
Sorry if this response had nothing to do with Hair-dos of the 1970s - trelixus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22That's also not a hair question.
- r0b0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24Am I the only one whose response would be, "THEY WERE ***** LITE BRITES!"?
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -24/+3***** OFF WITH THE "HILARITY ENSUES"! THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT VIDEO BUT YOU HAD TO GO AND RUIN IT!
- Cleanlyness, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3ohemgee hilarity ensues! Engadget should hire such an original writer as you...
- jayhawks71, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22AMEN! I have never agreed more on a Digg topic with commenters than this topic.
If "this" won't play well in court, the judge should be removed... they are refusing to taint the judicial process by talking about THE incident... they have a right not to incriminate themselves. If I were the judge I would probably applaud them for telling the reporters to go fly a kite.
Further, the ONLY hoax perpetrated here was by the law enforcement of the city of Boston and those state and federal agencies that blew this absolutely out of proportion. As for the mayor of Boston and his outrage over this "hoax" he needs to look in the damn mirror; it is there where he will see the perpetrator of the hoax. Attention government officials: STOP trying to incite panic in people; STOP trying to use fearmongering to get ignorant people to believe that they need to hand over their freedoms; whomever intentionally strikes fear in the citizenry is a "terrorist"; law enforcement in this case intentionallly struck fear in the citizenry (or did they.... was there panic anywhere in Boston besides in law enforcement? all I hear about were the traffic jams... not panic).
This case should be dismissed and the mayor of Boston should be put on trial for the very crime these men are being charged with! - DatoeDakari, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27Wow! this ***** is amazing publicity for the movie.
- muckluck, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13@mastersb
why do I always see you crying about people using the words "hilarity ensues?" Jesus man, don't clutter up the comment board with that *****. go ahead and digg me down now please. - mateo60, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17They set the ground rules before the interview. The media asked questions anyway. The media got the answers they deserved.
- rootneg2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7THE MOON RULEZ!!
- anonatron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14This whole deal is amazing to me, directly after 9-11 we were told not to let the terrorists change the way we lived our lives, not to let the terrorists win, but that is exactly what is happening. People are being arrested for things like this, all of a sudden everyone in the country is being treated like a terrorist, it seems to me like the terrorists have succeeded in their plans. America has changed, big time.
- joach, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6my ghodness... yo american are a joke!
- SleeStaK911, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ohmytodd - you scare the everlivin ***** out of me.
"What these men did?" - so are you offended by their art? or their expression? or the advertising approach?
And what does your president have to do with this campaign?
I suspect you may somehow be in the "reached for a kiss and missed" camp of the Bostonian freak-out camp that is so embarrassed now that it cannot stop the machine.
Austin, S.F, Seattle, and others, simply saw these things and took them down. Rationally, like a yard sale sign.
I guess the TERRORISTS HAVE ONLY WON SO FAR IN BOSTON. Big surprise.
- bcool, on 10/12/2007, -2/+59"hair today, gone tomorrow"
nice.- skewh, on 10/12/2007, -12/+6King's Quest V is better than VI in my opinion, but that's awesome nonetheless.
- hakz, on 10/12/2007, -8/+57will people stop adding "hilarity ensues" in the description? We'll decide that
- standsolid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12It's better than "see title..."
- mrFREEZE, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1"Hilarity ensues" is a lame Internet (I can't believe I'm about to use this word) "meme"; It's used as a cliche on other sites in their headlines. How long have you been using the Internets again?
- excalpius, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3We can change. We can outgrow stupidity like...
"hilarity ensues"
"BREAKING"
"Title says it all"
and
Ridiculously over-reacting politicos who are trying to blow this situation up into a crime and terror scare in order to draw public attention away from their incredible stupidity at handling the discovery of a dozen lite brites after two weeks of sitting around unnoticed (now THAT is the real issue at hand for the politicos!).
None of the other cities were this stupid when they found the lite brites. Think about it.
Saving face by scapegoating. Oldest trick in the books.
- neptunebk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13comedy at its finest, well done.
- knewjax, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Digg this Because Turner Should be providing peter with a lawyer instead of using his friend to defend him on such serious charges, regardless of how comical the situation has become.
Peter's a good kid and meant no harm,Turner Broadcasting should stand up for him, because of their role in the situation rather than leaving him to defend for himself.- Flankk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Serious situation? They put ***** lite brites around Boston. I don't blame them for mocking the media.
- look4alec, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3How could they know that something with a battery and wires could be construed as an IED?
- supermanred, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Batteries and wires never used to scare anyone until Bush told you to be scared of them. No IED has been detonatd on America soil except by white Americans like mcvae
- kp3469, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5those things looked more like demented Lite-Brites than any kind of IED. what kind of jag-off would call in a suspicious looking Lite-Brite?
- friedman420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4it might have been a indecency call, because i'm doing this as hard as i can.
- fr3nch13, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I think your confusing IED for LED.
- supermanred, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Batteries and wires never used to scare anyone until Bush told you to be scared of them. No IED has been detonatd on America soil except by white Americans like mcvae
- pilsner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14this is a really stupid case. IED's are meant to be disguised not put in public with flashing lights.
- ch30046, on 10/12/2007, -32/+3Their not funny at all. They're retarded.
- sovereign3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28If you're going to be grammatically incorrect, can't you at least be consistent about it? How did you screw up the first usage of "they're," but get it right the second time?
- jayhawks71, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3ummmmm.... bad hair day, perhaps?
- mrFREEZE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Their(sic) not funny at all. They're retarded."
Yeah, THEY'RE the ones that are retarded. Definitely not you. - tedhead2k, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Ooooh zing, you got 'em with the grammar wars.
He's right though, it's really not funny. This ordeal isn't a reflection of a poor government or what Bush should be paying attention to, it's a simple MISUNDERSTANDING, and as such, the guys shouldn't have acted like morons. Even trying to be comical... 70s hair cuts isn't that funny. - darkliquid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2And you're a complete douchebag. Hooray for you.
- supershawn, on 10/12/2007, -36/+3I was willing to forgive them for the publicity stunt, but they should be charged heavily for being retarded. The saddest part is that they really thought they were funny. Something tells me they won't be laughing so hard with a prick in their ass in prison.
- dext3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22they're not going to prison.
- darkliquid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Know what's funny? Assholes like you taking something like this seriously. Die.
- Chaotyk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+51I don't know; I found Fox News' frustrations to be very amusing.
- spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Haha , I found the whole thing to be reporters faced with the fact that they are not all powerful, people DON'T have to talk with them. And they are in denial about that scary scary fact.
- SleeStaK911, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I find the fact that you think that since this was captured from FOX, that FOX was frustrated. Are you really dim enough to not realize that EVERYONE was there shooting this? So how did you manage to isolate exactly WHO was speaking off-camera?
- hobbers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There was someone smart in the crowd though. He asked the question about how their hair would be affected if they went to jail. The guy responded that he doesn't think jails are allowed to force people to cut their hair.
The reporter figured out the ground rules, adapted, and asked a creative question. Unlike your usual pundit or talking head.
- thisisntjon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I think they are saving themselves by not giving the media any headlines with the exception of, "2 Guys who hung up lights, not taking bomb scare punishment seriously". Could you imagine this happening in November or December?
- angusware, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5HOWIE CARR IS AN *****
- alteratti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm sorry but that's not a hair question.
- Xeniteone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18I love how they let them talk for like three minutes!!!! People have to stop being douches. Calm down Boston, nobody else lost their minds, lets not lose yours. You're really showing the world the lower depths of human intelligence.
- excalpius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I guess none of the people who go to our greatest universities in Boston actually STAY in Boston afterwards. :)
- dopesick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I guess the best part of this whole thing boils down, to the way people think in different areas. The people in boston flipped out and called 911.
The hippes in San Francisco didnt do *****. - dotlizard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6staggeringly successful publicity stunt -- an entire national news cycle!!
well done. - SpeedyG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Worst case scenario, this is petty vandalism.
You'd think there'd be ONE person out of all those panic-stricken morons who would've said, "...you idiots, it's a character from a cartoon show; this ain't terrorism, it's just a stupid prank. Go home."- surfmadpig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it's not even a prank, i doubt they even thought such a thing could be mistaken for a bomb. it was just advertising.
- darkliquid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was at one of the "bomb sites" if i had actually been able to see the ***** light bright i woulda been able to tell them what it actually was.... sorta sad no one did before hand.
- takeda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually they got fax from Turner that it was their ad. an hour later (5:00pm) once this started, but they ignored it and contiinued to act this way...
They're retards, no excuse.
- angusware, on 10/12/2007, -0/+53I love that one reporter gets in on the joke and starts asking hair questions.
- garg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14The rest were idiots.
I can't believe that cartoons with lights on them caused a terror scare.
- garg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14The rest were idiots.
- garg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Idiot news reporters. They were acting like confused chicken.
"Serious matter" my ass.- sunprema, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2This is a very good reply...I like this !!!! "Serious matter" my ass. hahahahhaahaa
- garg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+41"It is outrageous, in a post 9/11 world, that a company would use this type of marketing scheme," Mayor Thomas Menino said. "I am prepared to take any and all legal action against Turner Broadcasting and its affiliates for any and all expenses incurred."
In a post 9/11 world, we're supposed to be terrified of LIGHT BULBS?- Gizza, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Its funny that he says "post 9/11 WORLD" when America is the only country ***** themselves over terrorism
- smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8it's ***** disgusting that they're trying SO HARD to cover their incompetence by calling the whole thing a "hoax." anyone who understands the situation would see that that's an outright lie. if anyone in the gov uses that word in court he'd be committing perjury for implying that the marketers made fake bombs to scare the public.
in any case, those responsible for turning this into a terror scare should be charged with gross incompetence and removed from their posts for trying to falsely incriminate those two. instead of just admitting this ***** they're actually willing to let two innocent individuals take the fall for some pretty serious hopped up charges! - Pottersquash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Its funny that he says "post 9/11 WORLD" when America is the only country ***** themselves over terrorism"
Doesn't England have spy cameras on like every city corner now? Sure, only America is ***** themselves....
- spraguep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Boston must be full of idiots.
- jayhawks71, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9More accurately, Boston government and law enforcement are full of idiots. Let's not drag Bostonians into this; from what I can tell, there was no panic until the government created it... and even then, it was simply traffic jams caused by law enforcement closing roads. Can someone point me to the reports of panic so I can see what evidence is going to be used to try and convict this guy of "perpetrating a hoax that leads to PANIC"... sounds like PANIC is a requirement for that one (sort of like DEATH being required for MURDER)... the government can't go nuts, overreact and panic then say that these guys caused a panic, arrest them, charge them, and convict them! But then again, this is a post 9-11 world... ask the guys in Gitmo about how the "rule of law" treats people who have not been convicted of a crime.
- EzarKun, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2lol...
but whats scary is, a terrorist might take this event to his advantage.
He will make a Mario figure of of LEDs.
strap a bomb onto his chest, stick the Mario infront of that, and walk into times square.
and u know what happens, ka-boom!- smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4or he could just put explosives in a backpack and ruin your paranoid delusions.
- ReRush, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Did anyone else that whoever encoded/recorded this got an IM while doing so? :P
2:27 - crackmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11They both have giant brass balls. There has to be a legal fund for these guys. Where can I donate.
- smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yea, we need to get them a wheelbarrel or something to lug those huge swinging monsters around with.
- Depthfunction, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Best. Press conference. Ever.
- pyrolyte, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9fox news is failing quickly. they are about as credible as entertainment tonight.
- BAMAToNE, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4How does this have anything to do with Fox News? All they were doing was showing the press conference. Newflash: Those reporters would have asked the same questions had you been watching this on CNN.
- excalpius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You could hear the Fox news anchor's commentary during the video. "Those young rascals, no respect for their elders."
The Daily Show is going to eat this up tonight.
- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5long live adult swim
- b1m2x3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2oh my god...
i'm amazed.
these guys are awesome.
they remind me of all my friends.
so good. - Oxygen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That was hilarious. I love it!
- daviruiz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What the *****, I feel sorry for those two guys. Man that's messed up, going to prison for a prank; dude the country is retarded. Can't catch Osama, but we arrest teens.
- excalpius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No one's going to prison. PUH-lease. They won't even be charged once this gets out of the hands of idiots like this Mayor Dingus and his CYA crew. It's not a crime for OTHER people to act like complete and utter imbeciles.
- jiggidy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That is not a hair question. that is also not a hair question. that is also not a hair question hahahaha
- ufia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3A funny prank would be to walk around town with bananas strapped to your chest. But without making terrorism insinuation of any kind, shape, or form. Just a silly fool dressed in normal American clothing with bananas strapped to his chest. See how long it would take for idiot people to call you a terrorist. Because bananas are scary.
- myFriendDerrik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The fact that people are afraid of cartoon characters in lite-brite like lights is a nice punctuation on the the statement, 'The terrorists have won.'
- Wyattx17, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Its almost like V For Vendetta.
- surfmadpig, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1these guys are more intelligent than any of v for vendetta characters, or the director. that movie sucked.
- theokandroid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Fox News would just not shut up about this thing. Get over it O'Reilly, it was an ad campaign, idiots out there who have no sense of humor like you are making some huge ***** deal out of it.
- illegalcortex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@theokandroid
Keep in mind, the median age of his audience is 71. If he actually tried to explain the whole situation to them, most of them would think something had gone wrong with the audio. Mooninites? Err? Adult Swim? Cartoons? Lite-Brite? 70s haircuts?
- illegalcortex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@theokandroid
- Lyght, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's funny that Fox News adds a flashing "ALERT" bug over their logo in the video, only adding to the fact that people are taking this way too seriously, particularly Fox News.
- Grym11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They do that with everything. "ALERT! Breaking news! Madonna adopts! More at the top of the hour!" It's no wonder that, after years of this kind of abusive treatment, that the general public mistakes anything with flashing lights, a battery, and wires as bombs.
The real joke here is media in this country and how they've even managed to convince themselves of their own *****. Just look at how indigently the reporters responded when it was clear that they weren't being taken seriously. They act as if this segment wasn't going to be immediately followed by an "human interest piece" like a skiing squirrel or the political freak shows that they like to run.
- lopla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I love their concept and hope there are 100's of copycat teams doing this all over the country. U.S.A. needs to wake the ***** up!

SEAL YOURSELVES IN THE BATHROOM I AM ON MY WAY!! GOD SAVE US!!!- excalpius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I suggest we all buy lite brites and put our own messages on them...leaving them all over the country.
