- ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -8/+78You mean, there are people living outside my tiny worldview? Languages and dialects other than my own? What the hell INDEED! AHHH!
Hi. Welcome to the internets. - Corgana, on 10/12/2007, -1/+66This is fake. it's been here before. it's an advertisement.
- jtwilkins, on 04/03/2009, -2/+60Planted Commercial?
I always have a ice bucket and perfectly square ice laying around my house parties...
Wild Turkey anyone? - thekak, on 10/12/2007, -5/+50College talent at its finest.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -5/+49Do you mean that blond girl? hmmm
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+45not really
- mmm_linux, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32it is like the british version of dude.
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -8/+33Illusion, wfmk. A trick is something a whore does for money.
- cryonix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24you can see he palmed the real coin in his left hand, then his right hand had the CG coin placed in it. which then knocked down the CG ice... look at the way hes holding the coin in his left hand... why whould he hold it that way its such an awkward position... plus it stays in that position as he brings his hand below the table with the coin removed.
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -6/+26... or cocaine...
- ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20"Amazing Drinking Trick"
The amazing part is that there's no drinking. Top THAT drinking trick! - JavertHolmes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Most definitely a commercial. 00:18-00:22 look like the movements of a more knowledgeable camera person trying to be spontaneous. I know that sounds pretentious, but I don't know how else to put it.
- tomhung, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20... if you like LOTS of teeth!
- inigomntoya, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17I don't know that he actually threw the coin.
You notice right before the second time he "throws" it, he hides the coin with his right hand and drops it into his left hand - which he then rests in his lap.
The video quality is shoddy so it is tough to see if he is actually throwing anything.
Anyone else see this? - wfmk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Shame about the brand of Scotch. That trick deserves some fine malt!
- carl67lp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I've been thinking about that ever since I saw it. It's a sleight-of-hand move called the French drop.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_drop
It's almost too obvious, at least to my trained eye--but even so, I wasn't looking for sleight-of-hand and yet I still saw it. - TheMrEman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9There's definitely a French Drop or other legerdemain goin' on (why the hell do you pick up a coin with your left hand and akwardly transfer it to your right, then put your left hand under the table?).
There may also be some CG, but the low video quality is working to hide it.
Really, the biggest give away for me is the odd camera work. No impromptu party/drinking video i've ever seen has this many unnecessary moves and odd, quick zooms. If one of your friends was really performing this trick why would you a) not have the camera on him from the start, why do you "discover" him setting it up? b) cut away for unnecessary close up of the other party guests (other than to concel a cut/insertion of CG ice...probably the same reason it zooms for a close up of the "performer" before he pours into the glasses, to stich in the real glasses/ice). Think of any other homemade YouTube quarters/drinking trick video you've seen: they're primarly very steady, static shots.
Overall, this just seems to be a professional level production trying (poorly) to seem "homemade".
Also, the "blokes" bad-magician-like "oh, i didn't get it right on the first try, since it's obviously so difficult, maybe i can't actually do it" sort of expression seems a pretty potent giveaway that something ain't right. - 5thfreedom, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12@thestorey
Cortana? She's hot. - Bigcat151, on 10/12/2007, -10/+18That chick was hot
- awfulshot, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12uhh... cg
- Corgana, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14Why are the people calling it a commercial being dugg down? it IS a commercial!
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Most definitely a commercial. 00:18-00:22 look like the movements of a more knowledgeable camera person trying to be spontaneous. I know that sounds pretentious, but I don't know how else to put it."
I was going to say that the camera work looks very reminiscent of the kinds of camera work we see in those "found footage" commericials like the ones where that football player is throwing footballs across the length of the stadium, or the one where the mom comes home while the kids are playing basketball, and then dunks the ball. - Dotcommer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Dont you ***** digg him down...hes right, this is rediculous CG. Watch that coin. You'll see. Doesn't even ***** touch the ice. Watch his hands... slight of hand there with a CG coin. Its all *****.
~Dot - mcottier, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8The whore does the whoring for the cocaine.
- Textbook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Fake, also...slightly longer video is here:
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/169710/famous_party_trick/ - griz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yea, there is an obvious setup. NO way this is a "practiced" deal where he actually hits everything prefectly.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you pause it right as he does it you can see his right hand fall into his lap empty.
Keep going, pausing every half a second and you notice the coin isn't visible until the cap of the bottle falls off, at which point you can see a coin falling from where the cap was into the first cup, and the "chain reaction" begins. - mt066, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Good point about the camera work. I was suspiscious of the low quality video from the beginning, but all those quick zooms and stuff really do give away the fake-ness of this. It's like those slim-jim commercials that splice the guy into old videos of people getting injured on rollerblades and stuff. Wierd imperfections in the video are supposed to look like accidents but they just make it look fake. Any real viral video is usually pretty straightforward clear shot of whatever is going in.
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11Cawk ka Caw! Cawk ca Caw!
- t4k3n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree,
the physics are *****...
i can't explain.. just i don't believe that a coin could bounce 3 times and carry its energy like that unless it was created in the wonderful world of 3d - LeetPCUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you could do this you would be the life of the party.
- fliped, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This trick is actually simpler than it seems because once the first ice block falls it causes all the others to as well one by one because of the slight motion caused by the last cube.
- Krispy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I long for the day when viral marketing stops being so viral - or when you tube starts charging for it.
- zeiben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't say if it's fake or not. Just looks like a bunch of blurry ***** and arm waving.
- AustinGoodchild, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seen it before. It's as real as the day i was a porn star
- rhombus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm still not going to drink Wild Turkey.
- seafort, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3No Wild Turkey for me, but maybe some Famous Grouse...
- MikeF74, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've seen this before, but a slightly longer version. Look at the cap of the bottle, it's fake (CG). It was place there to hide the actually path of the coin in the final shot. The path of the fake cap is actually the pat of the real coin -- masked out.
- eberts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, the camera does give it away. It's a heavier, professional camera, which unlike a smaller consumer camera takes longer to overcome its own inertia and due to its size has a wide turn radius. Also, the zooms are something most amateurs don't even think about, especially drunk ones.
- pencilneck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bad CGI and even worse coin handling. At least the foley work was good.
- NapoleonGold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ya definitley some Guerrilla Advertising but damit it if it still doesnt look cool.
I am always for a good advert, thats why I watch the Super Bowl :P - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I enjoyed that the first time it was on the digg home page :)
- VPurpmalkV, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@Lyco "HAS ANYONE IN THIS FAMILY ACTUALLY SEEN A CHICKEN?!?!?!?!" Awesome AD reference.
- joerod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the girls gave "it" up right after he did that... so guys, learn this trick.
- tobiasproject, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2meh.. i'd put it in her mouth
- kalleanka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1# "Bloke" is a slang term for "man," much like "guy" or "dude." It is primarily used in Britain, Australia and New Zealand, and is believed to derive from Shelta.
Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloke - imajin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2...or the one where ronaldinho strikes the crossbar with a soccerball 5 times in a row and it returns to him...
- rhombus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Watching it a second time I can honestly say that is the most blatant piece of idiotic button-pushing I've seen in a long time, especially the bogus pan to the chick's face. I don't care how hot you are for her, nobody handles a camera like that.
It's like a magazine advert that's been converted to video, and about as stupid.
The sad thing is that it worked, since this has to be the third or fourth time this drivel has been on digg. - tOpvillyn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1they were acting way too c0rney for it to be real.
- ziggystardust, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I love how the quarter freezes in mid air over the last cube. I don't care how cool the commercial, nothing short of that girl bathing in it would get me to drink Wild Turkey.
