An organization that not only encourages but carries out lynchings of blacks and other minorities. An organization that for generations put fear into blacks who wanted to cast a vote. An organization that kidnapped and tortured civil rights workers in the 60's. Hell the Panthers aren't saints (then again they don't hide behind sheets) but don't put them on the same level.

I wouldnt be suprised if the person who put that together either had no idea that was a KKK picture or had no real understanding of what the KKK represents in a foreign context. Ignorance is just as likely as racism to be the culprit here.

You must be young or have ADHD because you can't seem to make your argument relative to well, anything. The KKK was started by people that were ex-Confederate soldier whom had committed treason. Black Panthers organized primarily because of police brutality and trust me California has a long history of it.

On a related note this reminds me of a similar faux pas a local identity had with Mohamad Ali (in the 70's).
When interviewing him he called him "boy" in a southern "Colonal Sanders" accent.
Ali looked like he was going to deck him whilst the Americans in the crowd gasped (one yelled out "he said roy, he said roy"), but myself (and probably 99% of the rest of Australia) thought "WTF, so?".

I 'spose there would have to be some people, but surely that figure is pretty miniscule! Depictions of American culture are pretty pervasive here.

Realize that the Black Panthers educated the poor in and around the Oakland/Bay Area on their civil rights and was a response to years of racism. Huey Newton knew the law quite well. Sure the Black Panthers were involved in drug dealing supposedly. But, I understand what you're saying, that Blacks can not organize and defend themselves from racists attacks by citizens, cops, whoever. Remember that the only reason that the Black Panthers were considered a threat is that J. Edgar Hoover wanted criminalize everything that blacks did toward gaining civil rights, all the while running around La Cosa Nostra in a dress, lipstick, and high heels with the Italian Mafia. Got it. I see your point, but I hope that you can smell my sarcasm. I don't want to make this post to justify either side, but all this race pride, religious pride ***** amounts to nothing but worldwide GANGBANGING. In Spain during Semana Santa (the week of Easter), people have "Processions" (parades) around every city, the largest ones being in Sevilla and Granada. People dress in the same outfits, each day changing colors, including Blue, Purple, Black, White, and some others that I don't remember. The tradition is older than the KKK. The KKK simply uses a cheap ripoff of these outfits. Do you notice anything else on the outfits? No. The KKK puts stupid emblems on the outfits, the Spaniards have not done this for the past 300+ years that this tradition has been around.
