A Brawl In The Safari watch!
break.com — This is definitely not our typical clip but I thought it was pretty cool. A small buffalo gets taken away by some lions. A group of crocodiles battle the lions for the buffalo. Then the buffalos parents come back with the entire herd and kick the lions ass.

- rp788, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22That's an amazing video. Although I'm surprised the baby survived all that.
- Shuk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+35Epic indeed. Also kudos to the people for not being flamboyant throughout this. I was expecting to hear: "yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaah boooiiiiiiii, maaan diid u seeeeeeee daaaaaaaat! WWHOOOAA!!!"
- user777, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18wow, never thought buffalo could stand up for its own kind like that, awesome. i thought that they always run away and never come back :-) great video
- ACrazyGerman, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17Maybe the Dingo ate your baby.

Ya, they didn't sound American. - donkeyshow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3water buffalo naied the lion, sweet. I was hoping a crocodile would have directly fought a lion, who wins?
- cr4ft, on 10/11/2007, -6/+6Thanks for ruining it in the description
- cr4ft, on 10/11/2007, -7/+7Just wanted to add, one of the guys there was pretty knowledgeable....I was actually surprised how he was able to predict who they'd attack and how they'd come back for him.
- jo3design, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17buttered floors ain't got ***** on this video!
- reiner15, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3coolest part was when the buffalo threw the lion up in the air.
- BlackAdderIII, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Agreed.
Glad I spent time watching that, will remember it.
- Wonkanobi, on 10/11/2007, -6/+63The lions should've killed the calf quicker, but the fact that the buffalos came back in a mobilized front was simply badass.
Survival of the fittest FTW.- Samsong, on 10/11/2007, -29/+1Wait, those 3 pixels were a calf?
- alex.will, on 10/11/2007, -17/+1When people say 'survival of the fittest', they aren't talking about lions who've been working out in a gym.
- ckedge, on 10/11/2007, -12/+4In all the wilderness videos I've seen - big/medium mammal predators NEVER kill their large prey quickly. It always comes down to immobilization (one or two predators holding the prey down and the prey being frozen with fear) and eating the prey alive - whereupon it eventually bleeds to death - quite a while latter.
I'd hazzard a guess that they just don't have the intelligence to learn within their lifetime that a certain bite will kill their prey. And without communication skills to pass that knowledge on to another generation - it fundamentally limits the kind of things they can "learn" and thus do.
And *that* is what seperates man from the animals. - FearMoth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8@ckedge:
And you learned all this from YouTube? - GawtMilk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5@ckedge
Oh really? My biology teacher, an enviromental biologist, seems to think otherwise. Along with every teacher I've had in the past five or six years.
Lionesses will rip the throat off of their prey. That's the "certain bite" they use to kill them.
- Regulator980, on 10/11/2007, -0/+49That battle was pretty epic. This totally deserves my digg.
- fooplex, on 10/11/2007, -6/+12Cool video, dugg it, but not a comedy video. Maybe "educational".
- carl25, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12yea i'm surprised that many lions couldn't even kill the calf, they are like major villains. Keep waiting for no reason and then the cavalry comes and whoops em.
Anyways, it was awesome. The buffalo's seem to take no guff from no one, this isn't the first time they have done this.
Awesome- vroom101, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3the cavalry = his family
- sandbird, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Best example ever of "you mess with one of 'em, you mess with all of 'em."
- HabboX, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Lions kill by suffocating their prey (or by severing the carotid arteries). If the lion didn't get a good grip and was distracted, by say a crocodile or herd of angry buffalo, then it might not have mortally wounded the baby buffalo.
- zdislaw, on 10/11/2007, -0/+42I lived in Kenya once upon a time. My friend Joseph, a Masaii, said that it's common knowledge that the water buffalo is far more dangerous than the lion. He told me that if you're walking the plain and you have to chose between a path near buffalo, or a path near lions, you always choose the lions. This was an uncommonly cool video.
- Rohhob, on 10/11/2007, -5/+23Water buffalo are the second-deadliest mammal in Africa behind the hippopotamus.
With all the lions and hyenas and crocodiles that's pretty impressive.
How early humans thrived and made it out of Africa alive is amazing.
- Rohhob, on 10/11/2007, -5/+23Water buffalo are the second-deadliest mammal in Africa behind the hippopotamus.
- Kumaku, on 10/11/2007, -2/+85The only thing missing was an eagle swooping in and taking the calf.
- vroom101, on 10/11/2007, -9/+1Maybe that's because the eagle is having his own meal problems while on "permanent vacation" at NASA Kennedy Space Center: http://ChamorroBible.org/gpw/gpw-20060927.htm
- megagamer80, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Wild Life at is Finest.
- TAREcanada, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18That was so cool!
I didn't know animals would leave and seek the help of others and then return. That's really something. - Sabin, on 10/11/2007, -10/+2awesome video but jesus man, buy a ***** tripod.
- loganhid, on 10/11/2007, -3/+63buffalo's Tonight we dine in Hell
- merripen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+25Nature is hardcøre.
- D4N747, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10That was an amazing video, I can't believe how the buffalo came back in the end, rescued the still-living calf and chased the lions away without a hint of fear. This and the video of the ants really show how animals will do anything to help each other out, and I highly respect that.

- rac3r5, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3U know, when I was a kid I used to watch a lot of documentaries on animals and used to always think man if all those buffaloes stood up for themselves they can easily kick the all those big cats assess... seems like my childhood dreams are becoming a reality.... I feel sorry for the poor calf though, seems to have been through a lot.
- quux, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I always thought the same thing. It's a wonder this behavior hasn't evolved in more 'massive herd' animals. Or 'massive' herd animals. Whichever way you want to look at it...
- MattNF, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Anyone got a youtube link? It stopped loading halfway through for me. I tried refreshing it too.
- Markers, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7That was a good old fashion beat down...
- DeathDefi, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1This seems very familiar to me....Hmmm... Ah well, back to ganking in WoW.

- mrchin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Just fantastic!
- 8ight, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3nothing new to add here...
awesome - Frisbinator, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4There is a pride of lions that lives in the swamp, and their ONLY choice for prey is water buffalo. Consequently, they've evolved to have much more muscle mass than lions found elsewhere. Their systems also process brackish water much more effectively. Buffalo are known for their intelligence. It has been documented frequently where a hunter will shoot a buffalo, but not kill it, and DAYS later, the buffalo will ambush the very hunter who shot it, and trample the individual.
- dvdcr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2OMFG... EPIC means this video. Totally amazing! I would digg it 1000 times too bad i can't.
- Jolene, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I think the only way this video could have ended better, was if the buffalo ate the lions...
Too bad the calf would probably still die. I bet those wounds would get infected, attract more predators, slow it behind the heard.- dantrenner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8The calf will probably live. Lions suffocate it and there wasn't enough time with the interference to kill it. It no doubt suffered some claw marks and cuts, but will survive. The voices on the camera end were American but it sounded like a guide who was definitely South African. Even he had not seen so much total excitement before. So, I assume this was in the Krueger National Park. It could have been one of the smaller parks, but looks like Krueger to me. (Used to live there). Cape Buffalo are not to be toyed with. They are one of the "Big Five" game animals. (You can smell them at least a mile away. Seriously!) The others are lion, leopard, hippopotamus (which ironically, kills more people than the others every year), and the elephant. Was truly a great shot, and lucky so many animals got involved. And yes, it's not unusual for the Cape Buffalo to gang up on lions. The "King of Beasts" has met his match when two or more Cape buffaloes come after him. Actually, I've seen one bull take on a lion and the lion respectfully left the territory. Thanks for sharing a great film!
- leonidas333, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5This confirms that animals have at least some basic form of communication and culture. It has been known that higher primates posses culture (the great apes and the like) but a recent study says even fish (long thought to be natures stupid animals) even posses culture, they teach each other skills and servival skills. This is why overfishing is more of a danger then you think, it ruins the entire culture and fish no longer learn how to survive. what struck me here is that the animals were able to communicate and cordinate a counter attack, which by and large goes against any instincitive reaction of self preservation
- IbnDigg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Erm no, that was confirmed years ago.
- lothar250, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Wow yea that was one really cool safari trip i guess
- eN1X, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Damn, I was hoping they were gonna have a steel cage match in the desert.

- lovecups, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I hope the baby is ok!
- andihedrick, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1African water buffalo are widely considered THE most dangerous animal on the planet, based on just how "mean" they are. So insanely aggressive and strong.
- dantrenner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Right you are!
- SundayBrunch, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Lmao. The ***** crocodile tried to get a piece.lmfao. If the male lion was there this wouldn't have happened, the baby buffalo would have been dead.
- dantrenner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Sundaybrunch, your opinion not withstanding, rarely do the males do the killing, and the females stood the best chance of all. Interruptions kept them from their goal. By the way, the crocodiles, also contrary to what you said, weren't busy *****. They were just a little too few and a little too late. They would just as soon had feasted on lion as buffalo.
- feross, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1First time I missed listening to hard heavy metal while watching a video.
