"Run my pretty appetizer...RUN!" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41The title wasn't "Shrimp runs on tredmill by choice"
- Zellius, on 10/12/2007, -3/+44Gives new meaning to the phrase "playing with your food"...

- mancat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31PETA doesn't care because it doesn't have cute puppy-dog eyes.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30Talk about your knee-jerk reactions. What do you think they are studying? Shrimp speed? People like you make me sad. Science is so important and yet you take NO time to investigate before you criticize.
They are researching the question " Is Performance Influenced by Bacterial Infection?"

These are the scientists that will save our oceans. And our food supplies. Fool! - Kardde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23So creepy looking, but oh so tasty.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Well, my ignorant friend, let me show you what your other foods look like...

- mrussell, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19This gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "fast food"!!! Somehow
ok kill me - phsv, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Wonder if PETA will get this video removed for animal cruelty. :)
funny video. - bouche, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Deep Fried Treadmill Shrimp
12-18 Treadmill Shrimp
1 tbsp - Cornflour
1 egg - lightly beaten
1 cup panko breadcrumbs (japonese)
peel skin, leave tail on treadmill shrimp
dip in cornflour, then egg, then bread crumbs
heat oil to 350 F. fry in batches of 6 treadmill shrimp approx 1 minute per side. - spiffyfitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Bubba as well, just imagine what you can do to shrimp! You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sauté it. There's uh, shrimp kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. Pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That... that's about it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Way to steal YouTube comments.
- Troopy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Hey good idea,, you could also wire up the treadmill to a generator and fridge (to chill your beers)..
Then you'd have a seafood dinner and a nice cold beer, all courtesy of your liddle shrimp friend! :D - tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Is it me, or was it jumping over the white line every time it came round?
- mapkinase, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Most likely it is a research tool to study motion of crustaceans.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"Shrimp are nasty looking creatures... eww..."
Yeah but they're tasty bastards as well. - WebSerpent, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I wonder what the price difference would be between "Olympic" vs "Regular (Lazy)" Shrimp.
Perhaps it would be a good idea for them to do this with the lobster you pick out of the tank. Just to show you how frisky he still is before you eat em. - Railer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The question should be why are they using a shrimp? Answer: The Hamster drowned.
- thecoolestcow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Was that shrimp jumping over the white lines? It looked like it was. Pretty freakin huge shrimp.
- drgori, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Scamperin' scampi.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think they've found the star of the next OK GO video.
- richsipe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The video was done by a Pacific University researcher David Scholnick when he was working on research for: http://www.hml.noaa.gov/stressors/disease/treadmill.html to investigate the effect of pathogens on shrimp that was published here:
Scholnick, D. A., K. G. Burnett and L. E. Burnett. 2006. Impact of exposure to bacteria on metabolism in the Penaeid shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei. Bio. Bull. (In Press).
Why? Well from his page on Pacific's website: http://www.pacificu.edu/as/biology/faculty/DavidScholnick.cfm "Worldwide animals are at an increased risk of opportunistic pathogens. Elevations in temperature and increased areas of low oxygen, suggest that pathogen exposure of lower vertebrates and marine invertebrates are escalating. The central hypothesis underlying my research is that infectious disease can compromise the respiratory systems of lower vertebrates and invertebrates and thereby limit the ability of animals to sustain and recover from normal activities." OR Hot Oceans = Sick Shrimp ;-)
I originally posted this to YouTube and then shamelessly dugg my own video but I didn't have AMAZING in the title so it bombed ;) - CamZak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6It's running...if it were swimming the entire tank of water would be moving...not just a treadmill.
- nysus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I always thought shrimp kind of floated in the ocean like a seahorse. Guess I'm not cut out to be a marine biologist.
- fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It would be more interesting if they put the water to boil
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5You're right. Especially when it's on the back of the treadmill and has more time to see it.
- AtHomeBoy2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4wait, THAT's what a live shrimp looks like? Dang, deep fry those suckers and they look completely differant!
- sjbdallas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Oh my, that would be painful to watch: the shrimp trying to run away from the boiling water but not getting anywhere because of the treadmill? May then PETA would care.
- Koosebane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Training for the fish-bowlympics, perhaps?
Look closely. The little bastard is grinning the whole time.
He didn't even work up a sweat. I HATE it when my food is in better shape than I am. - Catchpen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4bury
- sjbdallas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I would really like to see more sea creatures on the treadmill. Lobsters, crabs, starfish, etc.
- randysouth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bubba forgot: run them on treadmills...
- orbstra, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4man everyones getting negatively dugg around here, mine will be dugg down though too just for mentioning it...
- Krispy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7That is so dumb, of course that thing is gonna run, there is nowhere else to go. Otherwise it will turn pink under the "treadmill" .
- OneAndOnlySnob, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I find those delicious?????
- mrussell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The look on the shrimp's face is fantastic. At first he's all like, "yeah, this is OK, I'm just cooling out," then when it's starts up he's like "whoah! Get me offa this thing, dude!"
Priceless - eggo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5PETA can go ***** themselves.
- cosmotron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I really don't want to eat shrip again after watching that... Pretty gross looking creature.
- sparkysko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2short_man is right, the shrimp is mostly swimming. All of those 'legs' on the back are for swimming. If the shrimp was crawling, it's rear 'legs' would be retracted flat against it's body. Some of it's front legs are moving with the treadmill, but that could just be the motion of the treadmill moving it's front legs backwards. Shrimps mostly swim to wherever they want to go, and then crawl around on things once they are there.
- techweenie1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3PETA cared about the cochroaches people have been eating lately...and shimps are pretty much the cochroachs of the sea.
- sjbdallas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey, give him some steroids then see if he runs faster or hits a baseball better.
- Dgen_X, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well it was one of the best comments so far....but since it's stolen I won't - or + it...
- dosterm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Shrimp are arthropods, a classification that includes insects and arachnids. So yeah, that's why it looks kinda insect-y.
On a related note, insects are apparently a damn healthy food. - daprice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was wondering where the treadmill shrimp came from. The shrimp has been popping up in ytmnd.com clips in the last couple days.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Needs more garlic butter
- TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why does it have so many freakin' legs? That God and his wacky intelligent design.
- da_bradler, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5That my friend was the creepyist damn thing I ever did see I tells you what
