"...she could've fed a family of five for 2 months with the same money."
Try "...fed a family of five for THREE months." I do. $400/month. We're gonna have an entire generation of useless Paris-freakin'-Hilton girls. She'll grow up knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing. - lansuggs, on 10/11/2007, -1/+83Well our culture isn't totally doomed. At least even VH1 recognized the sheer ridiculousness of this. Love how near the end, they were pointing out Lohan's DUI and coke arrest!
- sadmancomputer, on 10/11/2007, -4/+77Man...sometimes I wish California would break off into the ocean...and I live in LA
- PhysicsChris, on 10/11/2007, -1/+50The other day my wife came home with $100 worth of self-tanning lotion. I said "Why would you spend $100 on tanning lotion in Arizona in May?" I feel much better now, but I pity that woman's husband.
- fitzfan, on 10/11/2007, -7/+53Sounds like a good businessman, do you complain about everything that is over priced? Its the same thing as a $10 beer at a sports event, obviously they are ripping you off, but if people are going to pay for it why wouldnt they charge that much? Do think the owner started the business so that he could make people look nice for school pictures? no he started it to make some money.
- drcato, on 10/11/2007, -2/+48Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona Bay.
- st3vo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+35Lindsey Lohan special? Ohhh you meant the ridiculously unnatural orange skin special.
- honorablesauce, on 10/11/2007, -0/+32A fool and their money are soon parted.
- xcbxcb, on 10/11/2007, -2/+34I wonder if the woman in question would find blowing $1300 on SLI cards to be a shocking, immoral waste of money?
PS3 and HDTV?
iPhone and a year of service? - Smeed, on 10/11/2007, -0/+31I think she looked better without the tan. Most instead of the tannest kid in her class, she is the most orange.
- Ibox, on 10/11/2007, -1/+30@ngmcs8203/
ever heard of ramen noodles? - airwalkery2k, on 10/11/2007, -3/+31Uh--I have a coupon for this tanning place which charges $20 for unlimited tanning for a month. Maybe I should mail this coupon to the lady?
- kazukisan, on 10/11/2007, -5/+31with the stuff they put in things now a days, im sure the lotion causes just as much cancer as the sun.
- Corrosionx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+27A guy in a communist shirt sells a tanning session to a 8 year old girl for 1300$.
Only in America... - aspec, on 10/11/2007, -2/+27@techno
Kids don't eat as much as adults until they're 14.
Also, it seems cheaper to make 3 times as much of everything in one shot, than it does to make it 3 times. - Jolinar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+26After seeing this, I now feel really great about my parenting skills. That awful woman would not even listen to her daughter when she was getting scared and didn't want to do it! It's amazing the things some parents are teaching their children...
- ersatzphi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24Sometimes my motivation for my work is for the good of humanity, and then I see people like this walking the streets and I say to myself....*****.
Doing it for the money. - ocarus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+23What a douchebag for a mom.
- viviwanu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21A perfect looking girl spends $1300 to look like a $4.99 rotisserie chicken from Costco!
- MattB123, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19The mother is the problem there. Poor kid.
- haggie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19That girl will be giving me a lap dance in 10 years...
- ngandy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18when they said the lohan special i was like...omfg...a boob job for an 8 year old? no way....
then the guy said "this is LA" and I was like "ahhh, well then a boob job wouldn't be odd then..." - redfox2600, on 10/11/2007, -2/+19To play devil advocate:
1. It NOT hurting anyone we aren't forcing this upon our kids hell some might even hog the goods
2. Fast computer can be use for engineering so it still help society.
3. SLI will never turn a little girl into a stupid spoil whore, in fact it might even be the opposite.
4. SLI, PS3, iPhone etc. will NOT turn a you a freakish orange color. - TheSabre, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18@ngmcs
"If one child ate 2 meals a day for one year at a conservative $3/meal that's $2190."
A conservative $3/meal? If you cook from scratch, that's slightly expensive. The other night for dinner, I made macaroni and cheese. Yes, if you buy the "blue box" at the grocery store, you can probably eat one night for $3. But if you buy store brand pasta, cheddar cheese, milk, etc. you can spend about $5 and get enough to not only feed all 3 children, but have enough leftovers for 2-3 lunches or dinners. The name-brand prepared $0.60/serving meal is now about $0.30/serving and thus comes to about $1.50/meal for 5 people.
If you sit down, make a menu for 1-2 weeks at a time, figure out how many portions of the ingredients you need and properly shop, you can definitely get eat for less than $3/meal. My pizza recipe makes 2 square pizzas with 8 slices each for under $2.
Ok, now I'm just rambling. In short, I think $3/meal is much more than you need if you cook from scratch. - realyst, on 10/11/2007, -5/+21"I don't want to do this"
"You have to sweety. It's for your picture."
"Ka-ching"
I'm sorry, both the mother and salesman need a good beating. I mean a damn good one with blood coming out of every orifice.
I fault the mother for obvious reasons and, yes, I do fault the businessman because making a buck does not mean you have to sell your soul(figuratively speaking, I'm actually agnostic). There are such things as principles, regardless of what corporatism has thought you.
And no, I'm not anti capitalist; though it's the worst system there is except all the others(was it Churchill that said that? I can never remember). Capitalism was never meant to rob little girls of their youth for money. It's just what is has become. - ngmcs8203, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17I think it's L.A. that's got you thinking that way. Come join us up in the SF Bay Area and it's a different way of life.
- UMDSmith, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15If I had an 8 year old daughter who wanted a tan for her pictures. I'd tell her to go push mow the lawn. That is why I have the best redneck tan in town, looks good in photos, plus I can be shirtless and people still think Im wearing a white t-shirt!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Um....THAT'S what you choose to get upset about and comment on after watching this vid?
K. - vann, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Maybe not. The little girl did protest, after all.
- wakkow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14It's the Southern California mentality. I've lived in both sides of the state and norcal has a completely different feel.
- CrunchyMilk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13@ngmcs8203 unless it was changed such that a year only has 7 months, $400/month comes out to $4800
- eean, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16hahaha good point. Digg is a house of hypocrites.
- CptZap, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12But I don't wanna get out of my chair...
- floppyparty, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14I don't mean to burst everyone's hate bubble here, but you should really measure extravagant spending in terms of percentages, not dollars, because everyone makes different amounts of money. Maybe that $1300 tan is like you buying a pair of shoes you really don't need, or going out and spending wayyyy too much on dinner....or buying a starbucks coffee when you realllllly could of just brewed it at home...... get my drift? most of us waste money, so let's look at the percentages of one's monthly or yearly net income before we judge.
The only thing I have a problem with here is that she thinks her 8 yr old daughter needs a tan. Even worse, needs to look like Lohan. - halavais, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15Because she doesn't want cancer?
- Adrianc333, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Just wait till she's on the SunBeds.
Skin Cancer by age 12. - NSResponder, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I thought it was pronounced "stupid druggie *****".
-jcr - Ibox, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8little girl has no chance @ life. she'll grow up to be a dumb whore like her mother.
- EochaidRiata, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8"A family of five on $2800/year? I call B.S. "
Most people on Earth live on less than that.
Have you ever priced a 30 lb bag of rice, beans, lentils, pasta or potatoes? That is less than $0.50 per 2,000 calories. Water comes out of the tap for practically free.
There have already been numerous stories here on Digg about eating on $1 per day. - usrlocalbin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9I think the worst part is that this ***** was actually on TV!
All of these stupid ***** reality tv shows are making people dumber and dumber. Think about the show 'the simple life'..jesus christ who wants to watch two rich spoiled ***** complain about how rich they are and doing normal things like making yourself a sandwich is below them?
God damn I hate TV soooo much sometimes. But I hate the people that watch this ***** more.... - acroyear2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7At first I was creeped out but then decided they deserved to be ripped off.
- Magnj, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7So ***** up, good for the salesman though
- RichMan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I thought she looked better before the orange tan...
- JezusGhoti, on 10/11/2007, -6/+12No amount of tanning can hide her butt-fugs face.
- eean, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Well the way the San Andreas fault lies, not much of bay area is going to be part of the "island" (but all of LA). So we're set.
The last scene you can see that poor girl realize she looks kind of silly. - Mac2492, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I don't know what you're talking about. The chicken is much more attractive.
- Mac2492, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I suppose it depends on the reasoning behind the purchase. Paying $1,300 for a tan could be good if someone volunteered to donate to charity if you did it. Paying $1,300 for an SLI card could be good if you bought it to entertain poor people.
Paying $1,300 for a tan for an 8 year old's school picture is ridiculous.
Paying $1,300 for an SLI card to stick in a 2 year old's machine is ridiculous as well.
Both of these things probably ARE a waste of money for the most part, but they can be beneficial depending on your lifestyle. (Probably only to you, though...) You can spend $1,300 on food, yes. However, what if you make $500,000 a year? You can probably splurge once or twice. I think a $1,300 SLI card can be much more useful in the long run than a tan, especially when the tan is for an 8 year old.
Then again, I'm a geek.
P.S. The girl looks frightening with that tan. They should pay $1,300 to make her look like a normal human being again. -
