- SarahSue, on 09/07/2008, -6/+106Usually when I'm holding my husband's credit card with my bare hands, it brings him to his knees. Does that count?
- inactive, on 09/08/2008, -3/+95I'm sure he can bring you down to your knees with diamonds easily.
- holycrapitsed, on 09/07/2008, -8/+75They forget the best one: Bas Rutten's Lethal Street Fighting Self-Defense System. Dangity Dangity Dang.:

Holy ***** it's intense. - IG64, on 09/08/2008, -1/+43Hah, I knew Krav Maga had to be #1. Awesome.
- JKAL, on 09/08/2008, -6/+37This is a crap article, there is NO best martial art, it all comes down to these 3 main factors.
-Who the teacher is.
-Why is the teacher teaching (ie. money, fame or just to pass knowledge)
-Level of dedication of the student. (ie. how long and how consistent they train)
You can take any martial art and train(really train) for 8-10 years and you will be very good.
Unfortunately we have too many weekend warrior squash court teachers(instructors) out there just in it for the money,
or using new recruits just so they can practice their own techniques on these test dummies, or trying to push people into fame so that they can say "I taught them".
The best teacher to learn from is one that does not require a fancy dojo or school and does not ask for payment. They do exist.
Do not fall for this Marketing Crap about the BEST martial art. - PolyJuicePotion, on 09/07/2008, -2/+30This article makes me realize two things. One, that I love being reminded how very dangerous the human body can be. And Two, how out of shape i am. If someone came at me with any of those martial arts, not only would I hand over my wallet, but my car keys and the deed to my house!
- MartialDev, on 09/07/2008, -1/+29Most of the "Sambo techniques" depicted here are also the basic techniques in Aikido.
- inactive, on 09/08/2008, -2/+30Dugg For:
"When boxing gloves were introduced, deaths in the ring were cut from ; 'common' to 'not common enough to be considered a crime against humanity.' " - JAWS, on 09/08/2008, -0/+28When I lost in an in-class spar to a boy 1/2 my size and 4 years younger I realized that Tae Kwon Do was not for me. Now I use FackU (with scottish brogue). A combination of kicking and/or kneeing the nuts, headbutting, then boot stomping them on the ground.
- MrWally, on 09/07/2008, -0/+27Though I understand why they stuck with real-life examples of the martial arts, I would have loved to see some clips from Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior for Muay Thai.
Tony Jaa is incredible. - noahgelman, on 09/08/2008, -0/+25Zing!
- rsm5068, on 09/08/2008, -1/+25As a practitioner of Eskrima, Silat and Muay Thai, I can attest to these arts and their lethality. But #1 on the list actually deserves a list of its own; Krav Maga is the most deadly thing I have ever seen, and I have nothing but the utmost respect for the skilled men and women who use it. The only addition I would make would be Jiu-Jitsu (Japanese or Brazilian). Great article!
- inactive, on 09/08/2008, -0/+19Killing someone with a grape.
- kent1146, on 09/08/2008, -2/+20Where is Rex Kwon Do on this list?
- mrfoos2, on 09/08/2008, -0/+16Clearly. I mean, who's ever heard of someone being attacked in our peaceful loving utopia we call Earth?
- phoZoN, on 09/07/2008, -0/+15Don't forget "The Protector", another stunning movie starring Jaa.
- FountainOfTruth, on 09/07/2008, -0/+14Man, now I want to learn how to kill people with my bare hands...
- alexforcefive, on 09/08/2008, -0/+14http://www.cagepotato.com/2008/08/26/bas-rutten-do ...
GA-DANG GA-DANG GA-DANG!
by the way, how do you write about sambo and not mention Fedor? Should have said something like "Over time the Russians developing a particularly brutal form of wrestling on the steppes. Then FEDOR perfected it so that no living man could best him in the ring of honour. Then he used his fight money to buy two of every animal on earth. And then he herded them on to a boat, and BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF EVERY SINGLE ONE" - phoZoN, on 09/07/2008, -1/+14Awesome article.
- RadiatedAnt, on 09/08/2008, -2/+15burried as innacurate, as we all know if these techniques don't involve a mouse, keyboard or ranting these are useless to the digg userbase
- muleskinner, on 09/08/2008, -2/+15I've always been interested in Krav maga, but I can never find anyone who actually teaches it in my state. :(
looks like an extremely intense skill. - Residents, on 09/08/2008, -0/+13The Eskrima chick is incredible looking.
- enantiodromia, on 09/08/2008, -0/+13thats 90% of it!

She'll pretty much have to. - steveoco, on 09/08/2008, -1/+13I logged in just to digg you up... and to be honest it probably is the most realistic way to wreck people, bas is a legend... slit your throat...
- ayton, on 09/08/2008, -0/+12I took Krav Maga when I lived in Israel for the year. The only thing I learned was how to get punched in the face and keep on fighting.
- EricDraven, on 09/08/2008, -0/+12The branch of Eskrima that uses sticks is what you know as Kali (or in native Filipino, Arnis de Mano). So, the sticks are just basically extensions of the open hand. That means you can pretty much use anything in replacement of the sticks. Check out the special features on the 1st Bourne DVD (Bourne Identity) where the film's stunt choreographer and Matt Damon talk about Bourne's fighting style. The Bourne series is actually a good example of what else you can use in Eskrima, a knife, a rolled-up magazine or even a ball point pen will do.
- Sporx, on 09/08/2008, -0/+11"Eskrima" I thought you said bare hands ?
Jiu Jitsu ? Y'know that martial art that was so effective it started the mixed martial arts revolution?
Remember when a young Royce Gracie "170 pounds soaking wet" used it to choke out Dan Severn who outweighed him by nearly 100 pounds ? No?
Alright then, guess i'll go get some sticks from the woods and start beating at my punching bag =. - Ninh, on 09/07/2008, -0/+11That's why it is called martial arts and not destructive carpentry.
- personalspace, on 09/08/2008, -2/+12I practiced Kung Fu for a +3 years as a teen (the real Chinese stuff, not the made for TV kind). Pretty much every technique started with gouging eyes or crushing the wind pipe and ending with breaking a bone or tearing a ligament.
Kind'a bummed not to see it on the list, but yeah anybody that's well taught in Silat should scare the hell out of you. - charlietuna, on 09/08/2008, -0/+10Come to NYC my friend. We have ass kicking Jews all over the place.
- Crath, on 09/08/2008, -1/+11Correction: "6 Ways To Get You On Death Row, TODAY!"
- inactive, on 09/08/2008, -1/+11"I'LL KILL YOU... With my bare hand Kyle, with my BARE HANDS, god damn you!"
- lotec, on 09/08/2008, -1/+10no he didn't
- Owned1Up, on 09/08/2008, -2/+11no one stands a chance against the windmill
- mohsenxp, on 09/08/2008, -0/+9TKD sucks for actually winning in a fight.
Anything that forbids the arms is pretty stupid. - mohsenxp, on 09/08/2008, -0/+7I read your post. An hour later I have just stopped watching related Bas Rutten youtube videos!
Procrastination at its best! - phavn, on 09/08/2008, -0/+7There are different styles of sambo.
The enclosed video demonstrates self-defense sambo techniques. They are based on Aikido and really are impractical in real combat situation.
This is what combat sambo style looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBjin8zNUWc
Very practical in real life fights. It is pretty much based on modern mma with judo throws and striking. - JigoroKano, on 09/08/2008, -0/+6Having those hands down at the waist makes you an easy target for anyone who's spent 10 minutes with a heavy bag.
- xjeffx, on 09/08/2008, -1/+7You have to go to Israel for the real training. The Krav Maga popping up here in the U.S. is nothing but McDojo bullcrap.
- bieber, on 09/08/2008, -1/+7There's certainly no need for a fancy dojo, but I wouldn't expect any decent teacher not to ask for any payment. I'm training in karate/kickboxing right now with a multiple-world-champion trainer in a tiny gym. The guy works full time as a meter reader in addition to teaching martial arts to support his family: I think it'd be just a little ridiculous to expect him to put in all that time and effort for nothing...
- Xoti, on 09/08/2008, -0/+6Will it hurt?
- rsm5068, on 09/08/2008, -0/+6The beauty of Eskrima is it's ability to directly translate into empty hands combat. It also makes for some fancy dancing if you know what you're doing.
- jjohnstn, on 09/08/2008, -2/+8Krav Maga FTW.
- PrintScrn12, on 09/08/2008, -0/+6Ninjas are in that list. They're just invisible.
- Ymeg, on 09/08/2008, -1/+7To an extent you are right.
There is optimal martial arts for specific tasks. If you want to kill someone, there are better styles than others. - inactive, on 09/08/2008, -1/+6Buried for excessive incoherence issues.
- techliveadmin, on 09/08/2008, -0/+5If killing someone with your barehands aint awesome, I dont know what is....
- inactive, on 09/08/2008, -0/+5Dugg, Assuming Boogalou just made a hilarious joke which he is in fact conscious of.
