- michaelrsa, on 09/13/2009, -3/+180So Woodstock wasn't this big cultural revolution? It was just a bunch of musicians and businesses trying to make money off a bunch of doped up dirt hippies?
What a surprise!! - lolerskate, on 09/13/2009, -5/+150"#3. Woodstock's Performers Were ALL About the Benjamins"
Of course they were, heroin wasnt cheap in the 70's - awmagad, on 09/13/2009, -9/+152All these bands make me think that nickelback sucks.
- tabulaartifex, on 09/13/2009, -10/+112Oh yeah...they forgot one....that the hippie generation sold out for cash and twenty years later basically destroyed this great country.
- SkittlesUSA, on 09/13/2009, -18/+99The point is hippies (like many on digg) believe that things like music ought to be "free" and people who are in music for profit aren't "real" artists.
That is what is ironic. Without profit, there would have been no Woodstock. It just shows how delusional and hypocritical hippies are. - EVILTHETURTLE, on 09/13/2009, -3/+70Dryer lint makes me think that nickelback sucks.
- Blinker1315, on 09/13/2009, -30/+87A dumb article. Of course one of the prime motives behind Woodstock was profit. Does Bruce Springsteen play for free today?
- Delita, on 09/14/2009, -0/+54Wait... only 3 people died at Woodstock?
- espchick, on 09/13/2009, -1/+54Did $18 in 1969 really equal $105 today? that sounds insane.
- inactive, on 09/14/2009, -2/+51Sounds like a disgusting experience, good thing I can enjoy it in high-definition on blu-ray with air conditioning and a lazy-boy sofa . God bless capitalism.
- mikael110, on 09/13/2009, -2/+46yeah, cracked.com the website was created 30 years before the Internet
- cdw070, on 09/13/2009, -6/+44"Die Hippies!" - The Honorable Eric Cartman
- Tddupre, on 09/13/2009, -11/+43$18 today will equal 1 cent in 2049
- FOR3MAN, on 09/13/2009, -1/+32Damn kids, get off my lawn!
- TheWebSwinger, on 09/13/2009, -0/+31Haha "50 yars". That sounds like a folk song for Pirates.
- joenuck89, on 09/13/2009, -0/+24"Since this was before the internet was invented, nobody read the dad with a heavy emphasis..."
I don't know about anyone else, but I sometimes find my dad hard to read. - LomasLou, on 09/14/2009, -2/+25No one ever said that Woodstock was supposed to be a free event. They were selling tickets, of course the bands performing wanted to get paid. The bands were always paid for their album sales and their concerts. The cultural impact of Woodstock was not a result of the planned event, but of the type of unplanned event it turned out to be.
- Frodoholic, on 09/14/2009, -3/+25What is everyone complaining about, I found this article pretty funny and I didn't know these particular details of Woodstock. Dugg.
- inactive, on 09/14/2009, -0/+20Hell most so-called hippies are loaded. You know how expensive it is to eat organic instead of shopping at wal-mart like the rest of us slobs?
- specialbuddy1, on 09/14/2009, -2/+22This is why Digg is full of retards. Tddupre is just trying to be funny and LittleDas is too stupid to see that. Look I'm LittleDas and I'm posting a wikipedia link to win a fake debate with myself. I'm so smart. My liberal arts degree did pay off.
- joejitsu, on 09/13/2009, -2/+20I used to live in Morgantown WV. Its full of all kinds of hippies. There is a type that travels across the USA to go to festivals. They are all about making money, while pretending to be above it. The worst are the rainbow family.
- muleskinner, on 09/13/2009, -2/+19No you weren't.
- scott1, on 09/14/2009, -0/+17it was actually $103.92 to be exact
http://www46.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=%2418%28196 ... - fuzzy889, on 09/14/2009, -1/+18Stay in school.
- 4AntiStupid, on 09/13/2009, -6/+19That is how you market to the teenage to early 20s market. You have to appeal to the "rebelling against the parents" stage of growing up.
- inactive, on 09/14/2009, -1/+14This is the imdb synopsis for family ties right?
- EmitStop, on 09/14/2009, -1/+13Not the website, CRACKED used to be a magazine.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cracked - tomcat4u, on 09/13/2009, -1/+12Communist LIAR!!!
- samk, on 09/13/2009, -0/+11"On top of the fact that there were 3 toilets for every 10,000 concert goers, a torrential rain started slushing that port-a-potty overflow into one nasty poop stew by Saturday."
If it took each person one minute to use the toilet, and the toilets were in use 24 hours a day, less than half of the people would be able to use a toilet each day. But that assumes infinite capacity. Actually, all of the toilets would be overflowing within several hours on the first day. - specialbuddy1, on 09/14/2009, -2/+13You're pretty dumb for a CS major.
- MorpheousMarty, on 09/13/2009, -1/+11I think they mean Cracked as an entity, from wikipedia:
Cracked:
Satirical magazine
First issue 1958 - flux123, on 09/14/2009, -2/+12tl;dr
- Parastie, on 09/14/2009, -0/+9Heroin isn't cheap now...
- drunkCatholic, on 09/14/2009, -0/+9Cracked was the poor mans MAD Magazine back when people still read stuff on paper.
- BoneheadFarker, on 09/14/2009, -0/+9Actually, it is. Adjusting for inflation, for the same price as what you could buy in the 60's you can get 10 times that amount now. And it's all thanks to the War On Drugs...
- MrZaiko, on 09/13/2009, -1/+9Love, Peace, and a ***** of Heroin!
- somnus, on 09/14/2009, -0/+7LittleDas, social etiquette hint:
Even if information on someone is freely accessible, it can still be creepy to look up information on someone that they did not directly give you.
(ie. Hi! We're in the same math class and you looked cute so I followed you home using public roads!)
It's minor stalking. - xbrokennomorex, on 09/13/2009, -1/+8Welcome to America comrade
- darvinicus, on 09/14/2009, -1/+7you know how expensive it is to eat organic food out of the dumpster.
- greentable, on 09/13/2009, -7/+13Except Woodstock was in 1969.
- Ymeg, on 09/13/2009, -1/+7damn dirty hippies
- grendelwraith, on 09/14/2009, -1/+7Well they -are- usually better in the sack.
- CRCulver, on 09/14/2009, -0/+6The hippies weren't the only alternative youth demographic at the time. Richard Neville, a key figure in youth culture at the time, preferred to use the term "international underground" to cover the intertwining of hippies, freaks, and political radicals (think French students in '68).
- DulcetTone, on 09/14/2009, -7/+13It's now official: nothing about Woodstock is interesting
- silverchrysalis, on 09/14/2009, -2/+8we did ren faires with hippies for years. most of them are arrogant thieving elitists who make crappy music and think their cafeteria style Eastern religion(s) puts them above others.
and yeah, the rainbow family is my least favorite. - inactive, on 09/13/2009, -8/+14***** hippies.
- Mapekz, on 09/14/2009, -0/+6"Hippies. They're everywhere. They wanna save the earth, but all they do is smoke pot and smell bad."
- mrblonde314, on 09/14/2009, -0/+5I usually love Cracked's articles but I have to agree with OP here. These 5 picks were so blatantly obvious I couldn't even find the humor in the article. Of course there was a profit motive for the organizers, performers and land owners. Obviously when the fences came down and 375,000 people got into the grounds for free it was quite apparent that weren't prepared for the extra load. And if anyone actually believed that nobody died they would just be downright gullible. I'm surprised that there were ONLY 3 reported deaths. Anybody that was at / or knows the story of Woodstock will not be impressed with this article. They should rename it to "5 Things That Practically Everyone Knows About Woodstock".
- slyzxx, on 09/14/2009, -3/+8my dad and mom were they but they totally refuse to admit it even though they have the pancho and headbands left over ????
- diggydougie, on 09/14/2009, -0/+5Wolframalpha is cool. I just wish I understood how to work it.
