- TWiTsoldier, on 09/29/2009, -1/+360Link to the YouTube video that the article mentions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iE6OpSdtvz8
Apparently they were too lazy to do it themselves. - Bukowsky, on 09/29/2009, -5/+360That's awesome that he called the guy out. It really is annoying when you're at a venue like that and somebody's stupid phone starts going off. Especially in movie theaters.
- browwiw, on 09/29/2009, -1/+354He would have just waded into the audience, fists windmilling.
- PixelMagic, on 09/29/2009, -1/+306Wow, I'm glad it wasn't Christian Bale.
- eatsushi, on 09/29/2009, -4/+270Imagine Hugh Jackman in place of Taylor Swift, and Kanye trying to interrupt him
- dchurchill, on 09/29/2009, -0/+225“I have a wife and a son, but the gay rumors have started. I guess it's a sign that I'm moving up the ladder.”
- Hugh Jackman - Shawn4168, on 09/29/2009, -0/+214Dugg for the image in my head.
- rypic7, on 09/29/2009, -11/+206YO GUY WITH THE CELL PHONE, I'M HAPPY FOR YOU, IMMA LETCHU FINISH, BUT KANYE WEST HAD ONE OF THE BEST INTERRUPTIONS OF ALL TIME.
- dagnabbit, on 09/29/2009, -1/+195Apparently his character in the play is a tough, no ***** detective or something, and they were in the middle of a tense scene. So he didn't break character. Instead he dealt with the interruption in a way that his character would deal with it. Which is why Hugh Jackman is awesome.
- mrfuzz, on 09/29/2009, -1/+179"what don't you *****' understand?!"
- packy17, on 09/29/2009, -0/+176Hugh Jackman is a stand-up guy. First he spends $4000+ on breakfast for fans waiting in line for the premiere of Wolverine... and then he does this... in character no less! Brilliance!
- Amadeus2490, on 09/29/2009, -0/+159The rumors really started when Kelly Hu spoke about him being on the set of X-men 2; While rehearsing for the tent scene with Mystique, Bryan Singer, the openly gay director of the film, stood in for Mystique and was showing him how she was going to be on top of him and kiss him. He was avoiding that last part until Hugh Jackman shocked everyone when he actually kissed Singer. It's important to understand that they surprised each other with a LOT of pranks on the set of the first two X-men movies, though. . .including having Spider-Man run out and yell "Sorry! Wrong movie!" during a scene, and having Wolverine run naked down a hallway for a Weapon X flashback sequence, and surprising him with a group of women flashing money at him and screaming around the corner. I'm more than sure the incident with Singer was just to mess with him for a laugh.
In today's world, being married with children doesn't prove that you aren't gay; There are way too many men who live a double-life, "On the down-low". Personally, I believe that Hugh Jackman's straight and just grew up in show business, where a majority of people ARE gay. . .especially in Broadway. If you're straight and in this industry, gay people are still going to wind up being your co-workers, your agents, your managers, your critics and, of course, your fans. You'll never make it in this industry if you're openly homophobic. I think a lot of straight men in show business just want to show that they aren't really threatened by it, or do a stunt just for a laugh. . .That's when people start to label them as gay.
p.s On the stage, Hugh Jackman has played gay roles. He talked about an incident where he was supposed to kiss a guy in a scene, and as he was leaning it for it someone in the audience yelled "DON'T DO IT, WOLVERINE!!". He was laughing too hard to finish the scene. - pingpants, on 09/29/2009, -7/+155I liked the part where Wolverine turned the audience into shish kabob.
- StuartGibson, on 09/29/2009, -1/+146Since linking to the video was apparently too complicated for Reuters (despite them mentioning its existence in the article)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuT6_uvB_9Q - BeShirtHappy, on 09/29/2009, -1/+124You do NOT interrupt Hugh Jackman!
- TaylorHelferty, on 09/29/2009, -1/+114This doesn't surprise me. Hugh Jackman is awesome like that. My aunt and uncle went to a broadway show of his and he interrupted the play a few times to just talk to the crowd and entertain them. One of the interruptions was to let a couple come up so the man could propose to his girlfriend.
- chuckDontSurf, on 09/29/2009, -0/+110God that image cracks me up.
- jfield1, on 09/29/2009, -0/+86Especially in movie theaters? Regular theaters are worse considering the people acting in the movie can't get distracted by it.
- TheAngryMob, on 09/29/2009, -0/+83Thank you. Thank you for that wonderful mental image. Score one for etiquette.
- SilverBack101, on 09/29/2009, -1/+74I had the scene from Simpsons "Lisa on Ice" except with Christian Bale in it.
Lisa: Get out, get out!
Bart Simpson: All right, Lisa. But as I'm leaving, I'm going to be doing this...
[windmills his arms]
Bart Simpson: -and if you get hit, it's your own fault.
Lisa: Fine. Then I'm going to start kicking air, like this...
[kicks up her foot]
Lisa: And if a part of you should fill that air, it's your own fault. - PixelMagic, on 09/29/2009, -2/+73Ha, best comment on Digg today. Would read again. A+++
- immatellyouwhat, on 09/29/2009, -1/+71That's what all the cool kids are calling it!
- damnshoes, on 09/29/2009, -0/+69lol, wow.
i learned a lot reading your comment. - dhpeek, on 09/29/2009, -1/+63I bet it was Dr. Cox.
- lolerskate, on 09/29/2009, -0/+60"Hey bub turn that phone off." *Snikt*
- inactive, on 09/29/2009, -1/+59Can I take this moment to let everyone know that, yes, it IS ANNOYING when you text or view text messages in the theater? I know what you're thinking, "Oh I just got a text, I'll just open it up real quick and look at it, then close my phone. No one will care." Yes, we do care. And the small bit of light your phone gives off can be seen by every single person behind you. Just turn OFF your ***** phone if you go into a theater. Read your ***** texts AFTER the movie *****.
- BREZZZ, on 09/29/2009, -2/+60Then people see you doing it and get pissed specifically at you.
- BostonHoosier, on 09/29/2009, -3/+60Good for Hugh Jackman for embarrassing the ignorant.
...and good for any other actors, teachers, priests, judges, movie-goers and other public figures who do the same. A society of hand-held electronic devices is creating generations of people oblivious to general courtesy. - chuckDontSurf, on 09/29/2009, -0/+57^^ Yeah, but it's not like the people around you don't know it's you.
- brainboy7777, on 09/29/2009, -1/+58"We're through professionally"
- Robustica, on 09/29/2009, -0/+56"I'm gonna *****' kick your *****' ass!"
- arunforce, on 09/29/2009, -0/+56Then we wouldn't ever have to talk about Kanye ever again.
- Bling4u, on 09/30/2009, -0/+54OHHHH GOOOOOOD FOR YOU!
- enantiodromia, on 09/29/2009, -1/+54Next Week's Headline:
"Hundreds of 4chan Trolls Attend Hugh Jackman Show, Call Each Other at Once." - Spire3660, on 09/29/2009, -1/+53Wrong wrong wrong wrong, wrong wrong wrong....you're wrong....you're wronggggggggggggggggg
- ChronotriggerJM, on 09/29/2009, -1/+51Sadly, I'm with them on the mental image, that's just hysterical :P You sir, are full of Win.
- saleem, on 09/29/2009, -0/+46Youtube of incident
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iE6OpSdtvz8 - Burgerb, on 09/29/2009, -2/+47So why did the phone kept on ringing? It takes about 5 seconds to turn a phone of... this one just kept on ringing???
- PlatnumPlatypus, on 09/29/2009, -0/+45"It's ***** DISTRACTING!"
- moxley, on 09/29/2009, -1/+44Yeah me either.....
Especially because it works so much better than your fingers. - RoboRay, on 09/30/2009, -0/+43You obviously haven't bought a large popcorn and soda recently.
- JuanBSU, on 09/29/2009, -0/+42Apparently the reply button wasn't either.
- DaviDTC, on 09/29/2009, -0/+41Character limit.
- shadowman99, on 09/29/2009, -0/+41I'm happy to see this happen. Tickets for a live performance (a play, concerts, opera, etc...) commonly cost 80 bucks per and up anymore. That's a lot of money for most people. It's completely disrespectful when people can't turn their f'n phones off out off courtesy for the other people who are trying to enjoy an evening.
Even at movies it pisses me off. They should put Hugh in on of those messages they run before movies and let him rant at the audience about their stupid phones. - immatellyouwhat, on 09/29/2009, -0/+39Good thing it wasn't Russell Crowe.
- Amadeus2490, on 09/29/2009, -1/+40Yes, Kelly Hu. . .the Asian lady who played Lady Deathstrike. Bryan Singer, Alan Cuming and Ian McKellen are gay, and she apparently has a lot of gay friends so she hung out with them a lot on the set. With that being said: Bryan Singer completely intended for being a "mutant" to be similar to coming out as gay. That's why there was the scene where Bobby "comes out" to his parents, and they don't take it too well and try to talk him out of it. lol
So, in conclusion: X-men 2 is the gayest movie ever made, and it was incredibly well-received. In the ass.
- DemDude, on 09/30/2009, -2/+41I've been saying it all along - once we find the right dosage for this meme, it's got great potential. Heavily overdone as it was in the past couple of days, it's *****.
Like this? I don't know about you, but I like it. - Shogi, on 09/29/2009, -4/+43YO HUGH JACKMAN, YOU'RE PRETTY COOL AND ALL AND IMMA LETCHU FINISH, BUT I GOTTA GET THIS.
- thejackyl, on 09/29/2009, -1/+36Well, for starters, Christian Bale wouldn't have done it in the exact same way.
