- totorototoro, on 11/01/2007, -1/+27Mentioning Orlando Bloom in the same paragraph as Steve McQueen=FAIL
- weirdralph, on 11/01/2007, -1/+27I was watching The Magnificent Seven and The Great Escape recently, and I have to agree. Steve kicked butt!
- Foenetik, on 10/31/2007, -1/+16Heath Ledger??? ahahahahahahha
Jesus ***** Christ, good job Forbes. - zoxx, on 10/31/2007, -0/+13Jumped a barb-wire fence on a motorcycle while fleeing the Nazis? Check. McQueen= pure cool.
Also, Forbes.com is annoying. - theteller, on 10/31/2007, -1/+12I agree too. He never had to try to be cool. He just was, unlike so many trend-seeking Hollywood "hipsters" today who seem to have no clue.
- thebillgonadz, on 10/31/2007, -0/+11"10 days in the cooler, Hilts."
"CAPTAIN Hilts."
"20 days!"
"You'll still be here when I get out?" - allaboutdatiki, on 10/31/2007, -0/+11If you have 108 minutes and a big HDTV, you might enjoy tuning out to McQueen in Le Mans.
- gregm11, on 10/31/2007, -1/+10Bogie was 'cool' before the concept of 'cool' really existed.
- frone, on 10/31/2007, -3/+12Wrong, Bogart
- onionlayer, on 10/31/2007, -0/+9Hilts: Wait a minute. You aren't seriously suggesting that if I get through the wire... and case everything out there... and don't get picked up... to turn myself in and get thrown back in the cooler for a couple of months so you can get the information you need?
- mrogi, on 10/31/2007, -1/+9It's kinda hard to top Humphrey Bogart.
- ngmcs8203, on 10/31/2007, -0/+7I saw the Cincinnati Kid before I saw the Great Escape. I thought he was cool in the Cinci Kid, but damn was he a badass in the Great Escape.
- Misinformant, on 10/31/2007, -0/+7If you haven't seen The Great Escape, go rent it.
NOW. - emomakesmecry, on 10/31/2007, -0/+7Hell yeah. McQueen is the ultimate in cool. I mean c'mon, Bullitt, The Great Escape, racing in the Baja 1000 (and racing since he was a child)...the list goes on
- WalterBright, on 10/31/2007, -0/+6My father worked with McQueen on a movie (The War Lover). He said that McQueen was always courteous and respectful, always on the set well prepared, took the advice of his advisors, and never put on airs. This was in contrast to other stars.
- lcarsdeveloper, on 11/01/2007, -1/+7I can't agree more with this, he was great in "The Great Escape", and although "Bullit" was a weak movie it also had one of the best car chases in history, with McQueen driving the car himself at high speed. He was very dedicated to doing a good job. Check him out here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36MFh4of6lE - frieddonuts, on 10/31/2007, -1/+6His last words were supposedly, "I never should have switched from Scotch to martinis." Who else could pull something like that off?
- inactive, on 10/31/2007, -1/+6The Great Escape FTW!
- rumor, on 10/31/2007, -4/+9steve mcqueen was baller
and he served in ww2 unlike other actors at the time. - physphd, on 10/31/2007, -0/+4Steve McQueen's great, but he did not serve in WW2, having only been born in 1930. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_McQueen#Early_l ...
"McQueen left Chino, he drifted before joining the United States Marine Corps in 1947 and served until 1950." - inactive, on 10/31/2007, -0/+4Orlando Bloom was fine playing an elf. He just isn't very believable as a human. Or at least not as a heterosexual human.
- AntBing, on 10/31/2007, -2/+6Why do I care who Forbes.com thinks is the "coolest" movie star?
- lokee73, on 10/31/2007, -0/+3Want a good Steve McQueen movie? Check out Tom Horn.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080031/ - antipax, on 10/31/2007, -1/+4I'd say Bogart.
- dracostimpy, on 10/31/2007, -0/+3If you love McQueen and you love poker, you MUST watch this movie:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059037/ - a6n28f, on 10/31/2007, -0/+2Good catch.
- wootup, on 10/31/2007, -0/+2What do you mean "gay but still cool"?
- REUYL, on 10/31/2007, -0/+2http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36MFh4of6lE.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZzXHq7gKN8 - joosebuck, on 10/31/2007, -0/+2Stolen from "The Tao of Steve"
- quomen, on 10/31/2007, -1/+3I was thinking James Dean until I read the description. Oh well =X
- SenorCardgage74, on 10/31/2007, -0/+2good flick.
Donal Logue has a lifetime pass in my eyes - colto, on 10/31/2007, -2/+4...
- Dmaulchris, on 10/31/2007, -0/+2http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwDYYVY09gw
the ending - Skegg, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2wow this post is strangely inappropriate now that heath ledger is dead
- JustinPM, on 10/31/2007, -1/+3I would expect Orlando Bloom to be replaced by Steve Buscemi, then it would be awesome.
- wheels999, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1Its a master piece. The most authentic racing movie ever.
- AeonTorpor, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1Ah, yes, and another one that's the epitome of cool or even just badass, Charlie Bronson!
- brundlefly76, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1Steve McQueen does indeed kick butt - see Bullitt also.
I think George Clooney is much cooler than Farell, Ledger, and Bloom though (even Pitt).
The thing about George Clooney is that the other 3 kind of rely on being good looking and sexy to women, but Clooney can also hold a conversation and is more genuinely intelligent, funny, and charismatic - he's a man's man.
The other guys - especially Farell - I dont know what they could possibly do with their lives besides acting and modeling - George Clooney seems like he could indeed be Michael Clayton or Danny Ocean or Dr. Doug Ross tommorrow if he wanted to be. - cftf, on 11/01/2007, -3/+4Be sure to catch McQueen in his very first movie, "The Blob". He does a masterful job of the blob.
- hobieorris, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1Rent "On Any Sunday", a motorcycle documentary he helped finance and appears in. It's very good, and was nominated for an Oscar in 1971.
- sparced, on 10/31/2007, -5/+6I was expecting James Dean.
- ngnboone, on 10/31/2007, -1/+2I took a class called "The Sociology of Cool", which was very interesting. It makes sense that a dead celebrity would beat out live ones. In our culture an individual's accomplishments are given more attention and shortcomings overlooked once they die.
- aramova, on 10/31/2007, -2/+3max headroom!
- adam2112, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1Buried for mentioning Heath Ledger and not recognizing that Bruce Lee is the coolest.
- xboxfiend, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1Charles Bronson goes in the dead list.
- inactive, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1My mom took me to see The Getaway when I was 7. I think she expected it to be a standard cops-and-robbers movie. I walked out a lifetime fan of Steve McQueen and she walked out unsure whether or not it was safe to take children to the movies anymore. Heh...
- Porridge1, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1I've been a huge fan of steve mcqueen since I was a little kid watching "the great escape"
- lsatkins, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1What the hell are you talking about?
- hausome, on 10/31/2007, -1/+2no fukking way! i expected bruce lee to pop up when i clicked that link...
- abcdigg, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1What's that you say?
Being dead is a good way to earn a title?
Nah .. that would be silly. -
