Wanda Sykes Says She's 'Proud To Be Gay'

google.com — Comedian Wanda Sykes says the passage of a same-sex marriage ban in California has led to her be more outspoken about being gay. "You know, I don't really talk about my sexual orientation. I didn't feel like I had to. I was just living my life, not necessarily in the closet, but I was living my life," Sykes said at a gay rights rally in Las Vegas.

    Then, as more gays moved in, they became intolerant towards us who weren't gay.

    Then the intimidation and verbal ridicule and abuse started. Finally, it became downright threatening, and by that time the powerful LBGT groups had paid a lot into election campaigns and coopted the mayor, the city council and, eventually, the police dept. It became unsafe to not be gay and to Be Proud not to be Gay.
