        Personally, my main problem is that we are not encouraging people to live healthily enough. We tell people to lose weight, but we tell them to do it with fad diets, pills, or excercise plans that are difficult to keep. If you really want a different body, you need to change your entire lifestyle. Take responsibility. Instead of starving yourself, eat nutritiously and reasonably. Also, find a physical activity that you can enjoy and stick to. That way you will want to do it because it is fun, not because you are trying to change yourself. Being healthy and fit is not about being thin, it is about living well.

Many models today are in fact quite pretty, but their bodies are so emaciated they end up looking terrifying rather than attractive.

They don't care how you lose the weight,they just expect you to lose it by a certain time. It is the same with gymnastics,jockeying and ballet, but at least there are reasons for it other than appearance.

      Eating disorders are common in all professions where low weight is a requirement. There are many people who will starve,puke,or do whatever is necessary to keep their job,especially if it pays as well as modeling.

Advertisers generally prefer to convey a sense of "youth" with their product, as people tend to long for whatever will make them feel or look young. At the risk of being buried, I must confess that I am much more attracted to slender models than ones who are normal or heavier.

And as harsh has her story is she is by no means an unusual case. Plenty of girls die from this. Eating disorders claim more lives than any other mental disorder. 10-15% of people who develop an eating disorder will die from it. Its ***** up and I wish more people understood that. And this isn't just about young kids developing them. Girls, teenagers, women, mothers, grandmothers and men all develop them. And one of the things that most people rarely understand is that they don't have to look like a skeleton to be suffering from the disorder. Its a mental disorder and needs to be understood in that light.

        It's not just women, though it seems that people mostly focus on women with eating disorders.

      It can start from anything. A bad relationship, losing your job, being told by lots of people that your "fat" when your not, I could go on...
      Then after awhile it becomes harder and harder to stop. It's like a snowball effect.
      I have struggled myself with my body size ever since elementry school. I have gone up and down more often than a roller coaster.
      It really doesn't help when we have people telling us how we should look all the time.

It's not just the "oh I must be thin to look like those pretty pretty people in the magazines", it goes much deeper than that. It starts out like that, you want to look like the pretty skinny girls who seem happy, have modeling/acting jobs whatever. So I started eating 500 calories a day, then 200, then for a couple days I wouldn't eat at all. After you do that for awhile, it's like you CAN'T eat. If you eat, you're a failure. Ten extra calories can seem like the difference between life and death. Do you know how depressing it is, to be obsessed with something so self-destructive? It sucks, and I couldn't stop, I couldn't tell anyone because I was so ashamed of myself.

I remember a model a few years ago purposely went in front of judges at a normal weight of a female at her age and they hounded her for being too fat even though that was the healthy normal weight she should be. She went up there to a prove a point that they were looking for unhealthy skinny over a healthy skinny and thats where the industry was heading.
