- hove, on 01/06/2008, -2/+14The fact that there is a site called "Celebrity Body Gossip" might go some way to explaining the pressures people in the public eye are under to stay thin.
- fantasmacanino, on 01/06/2008, -7/+2I could say the same thing about smoking. My answer would be: because they can.
- restlessdesign, on 01/06/2008, -0/+4It's not always as simple as that. A lot of it is psychological and is more about being "in control" (in their mind)
- pianomahnn, on 01/06/2008, -3/+13I do not understand why people put question marks at the end of statements.

- mason55, on 01/06/2008, -7/+2i dugg him down because he said it like it's a bad thing.
- bdptcob, on 01/06/2008, -1/+7That opinion really doesn't hold much water since the world is fatter than ever. Perhaps her line of work stresses skinniness, but the rest of the world sure doesn't adhere to this line of thinking.
- neozero497, on 01/06/2008, -1/+2Hmmm, more like the US is fatter than ever. Yet despite this, all we're surrounded by are imagery of skinny women. Just because people are not following this unrealistic body does not mean they are effected by it.
Personally, my main problem is that we are not encouraging people to live healthily enough. We tell people to lose weight, but we tell them to do it with fad diets, pills, or excercise plans that are difficult to keep. If you really want a different body, you need to change your entire lifestyle. Take responsibility. Instead of starving yourself, eat nutritiously and reasonably. Also, find a physical activity that you can enjoy and stick to. That way you will want to do it because it is fun, not because you are trying to change yourself. Being healthy and fit is not about being thin, it is about living well.- liquidfirex, on 01/06/2008, -1/+1You act like exercise is some closely guarded secret. Or that fat people don't know how to get in shape. They are just lazy, that's it. Plus thanks to ***** medicine they live longer have more children who in turn become fat.
Someone needs to release a virus that feeds off human with massive amounts of fat :D

FOR THE PUSHIN' - Dradis, on 01/06/2008, -2/+31Personally I think a woman should look like a woman, not a 12 year old boy. Women have hips, breasts, and 'smooth' features, and that's what I think is attractive. Many models today are in fact quite pretty, but their bodies are so emaciated they end up looking terrifying rather than attractive.
- ZeRux, on 01/06/2008, -2/+3There's nothing wrong if women look like boys, unless you're a homophobe.
- DephexTwin, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2A guy is a homophobe if he does not find the figure of a TWELVE year old boy attractive??? I just don't know where to begin....

- PrescriptionX, on 01/06/2008, -0/+3I love the sick sense of humour of the person who gave them the large size (hell, probably medium) T-shirts about halfway down this page. Here's a free tent for your poor emaciated body.
- MrVictor, on 01/06/2008, -2/+2That's what happens when you have homosexuals and nutters deciding what is beautiful. You get women that look like anorexic 13 year old boys.
- ellecon, on 01/06/2008, -0/+3A model is told by the agency that they cannot find her work unless she is of a certain weight and has certain measurements. They don't care how you lose the weight, they just expect you to lose it by a certain time. It is the same with gymnastics, jockeying and ballet, but at least there are reasons for it other than appearance.
Eating disorders are common in all professions where low weight is a requirement. There are many people who will starve, puke,or do whatever is necessary to keep their job, especially if it pays as well as modeling.
- Oomsoup, on 01/06/2008, -1/+9I hate when my links get cut off.
- MyBookie, on 01/06/2008, -15/+17As people age, they start to put on weight naturally. Slimness is considered "youthful". Advertisers generally prefer to convey a sense of "youth" with their product, as people tend to long for whatever will make them feel or look young. At the risk of being buried, I must confess that I am much more attracted to slender models than ones who are normal or heavier.
- lucutus, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2It's not your fault. You don't have to be a woman to be influenced by your environment. Nearly everything ever portrayed to you as sexy and attractive was presented under the influence of advertisement.
- scott88008, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2So people can't have personal tastes unless dictated by advertisers?
- alexiadaisical, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2key word was "influence"

- albie, on 01/06/2008, -0/+3I read somewhere that the average age for an eating disorder to start is 8...***** scary.
- neozero497, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2Worse is that, at those young ages, the girl's development might be affected by the disorder, causing lifelong damage.
- l33tj33bus, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2If any of you ever feel like learning what its like for someone that age to suffer from different eating disorders until she was in her early 20's try reading 'Wasted' by Marya Hornbacher. And as harsh has her story is she is by no means an unusual case. Plenty of girls die from this. Eating disorders claim more lives than any other mental disorder. 10-15% of people who develop an eating disorder will die from it. Its ***** up and I wish more people understood that. And this isn't just about young kids developing them. Girls, teenagers, women, mothers, grandmothers and men all develop them. And one of the things that most people rarely understand is that they don't have to look like a skeleton to be suffering from the disorder. Its a mental disorder and needs to be understood in that light.

- Girlieq3, on 01/06/2008, -0/+4You have to remember that eating disorders also include overeating or "binge eating".... I haven't met an 8 year old that would turn away a whole bucket of ice cream or entire box of ookies if offered...
- shadus, on 01/06/2008, -8/+9Disgusting. She's so skinny she's hideous looking.
- l33tj33bus, on 01/06/2008, -0/+3Don't forget that eating disorders are a mental disorder. And as crazy as it sounds, she doesn't see herself the way that the rest of us do. - DephexTwin, on 01/07/2008, -0/+1All true, except I bet you the modeling agency wasn't urging her to put on a few pounds either!

- digitallysick, on 01/06/2008, -12/+7sad, women are nuts, they either starve themselves or eat everything in sight and get fat. Do they have no self control?
- BattleScars, on 01/06/2008, -3/+7You don't have a girlfriend do you?
- irgeorge, on 01/06/2008, -3/+3Err guys do both of these things too?
- Trielle, on 01/06/2008, -1/+2Good point irgeorge :)
It's not just women, though it seems that people mostly focus on women with eating disorders.
- Trielle, on 01/06/2008, -1/+2Good point irgeorge :)
- Trielle, on 01/06/2008, -2/+3You really have no understanding of women.
It can start from anything. A bad relationship, losing your job, being told by lots of people that your "fat" when your not, I could go on...
Then after awhile it becomes harder and harder to stop. It's like a snowball effect.
I have struggled myself with my body size ever since elementry school. I have gone up and down more often than a roller coaster.
It really doesn't help when we have people telling us how we should look all the time.- vervalsing, on 01/06/2008, -1/+5I've had some form of an eating disorder since I was 13. It's not just the "oh I must be thin to look like those pretty pretty people in the magazines", it goes much deeper than that. It starts out like that, you want to look like the pretty skinny girls who seem happy, have modeling/acting jobs whatever. So I started eating 500 calories a day, then 200, then for a couple days I wouldn't eat at all. After you do that for awhile, it's like you CAN'T eat. If you eat, you're a failure. Ten extra calories can seem like the difference between life and death. Do you know how depressing it is, to be obsessed with something so self-destructive? It sucks, and I couldn't stop, I couldn't tell anyone because I was so ashamed of myself.
- eeevildictator, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2Wow. Thank you for sharing.

- dunezone, on 01/06/2008, -2/+2I don't understand where this whole skinny idea is coming from. I remember a model a few years ago purposely went in front of judges at a normal weight of a female at her age and they hounded her for being too fat even though that was the healthy normal weight she should be. She went up there to a prove a point that they were looking for unhealthy skinny over a healthy skinny and thats where the industry was heading.

- heiroglyph, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2Disease? *****.
What part of this "disease" is not 100% in her control?
She has no self control, no self esteem and no survival instinct. Darwin award anyone?
- heiroglyph, on 01/06/2008, -0/+2Disease? *****.
- funkychikensays, on 01/06/2008, -2/+4she could still lose some weight
- stinkypyper, on 01/06/2008, -2/+1Models are tall. Tall people are usually skinny and gangly. It's that simple. They pick tall people to be models during the most gangly part of there life, the teenage years. If you look at all the super models who later filled out they were pretty gangly in their early days. It's like sports, they try and get to them young and sign them.
- l33tj33bus, on 01/07/2008, -1/+1As though your skewed observation somehow eliminates the medical reality of eating disorders. Think a little harder next time. This girl IS in a eating disorder clinic because shes ***** up pretty bad - in the head. Eating disorders are a mental disorder. 10-15% of people who develop an eating disorder will die from it. Check here if you don't believe me: http://www.anred.com/

- ryan83189, on 01/06/2008, -0/+1I guess they want the models to look like the hanger the clothes come on. The whole fashion industry is just ridiculous, they slap the same ugly cloth together to make something "original" and they are praised for it.
