Digg gets thousands of submissions a day. For something to properly make the front page there needs to be an appropriate volume of users at that moment that will catch your submission in the upcoming stories, digg it enough, and have it float to the top.
You know what made this submission so much better? One simple fragment: "with slideshow". That, I guarantee you, immediately made a bunch more people more likely to view this submission then the other.
But at the end of the day it doesn't matter - it was more LUCK that this got attention and your submission didn't. Whining about it is beyond stupid because it won't get you anywhere. One or two diggers will mark this story as a dupe and digg up yours, but the vast majority of people will NOT. Even though she had custody, Julia's mom never asked for alimony or child support. Although she has always been close to her father, Julia has always assumed she wouldn't inherit anything, which is why she works so hard.

Look at the URL, the Speed parameter determines how long the current slide stays on the screen. Speed=10000 means it's good for 10000 milliseconds, or 10 seconds. Merely change that to something like 90000 so the damn thing doesn't cycle when you're reading the text, reload the page, and all subsequent slides inherit the new time. Hit Next once you're done.
