- StinkyPete, on 02/08/2009, -2/+76The Daily Mail is crap.
The girl did not inherit Peter Sellers fortune, she inherited her mothers fortune. Her mother inherited the money from Sellers because she happened to be married to him when he died. - MonkeyNews, on 02/08/2009, -1/+35If all that about Peter Sellers is true....then wow - what a dick.
- cheviot, on 02/08/2009, -8/+37Peter Sellers, what a jackass.
- Stavrosian, on 02/08/2009, -5/+33A nice place to live doesn't really qualify as "stupid *****."
If you wouldn't change anything about your life if you suddenly had a large sum of money, there's not much benefit to having it. - doublefelix, on 02/08/2009, -2/+29Apparently it was enough for her just Being There.
- charm803, on 02/08/2009, -1/+27Not that the other children don't have right to be upset, but to blame their current financial situations on money they didn't receive is not right either. How about using that as motivation to get up and try to be successful?
It looks like Cassie is level headed because of her family support, not her money. I mean, even her wealthy mom died at a young age. It's not money that is making them sad and bitter. It's family support...or lack their of.
FTA:
‘Cassie has a good relationship with her father and sees him on weekends, but by the time Lynne died, he had remarried and had a second family and a busy medical practice.
‘Iris has deliberately kept Cassie out of the public eye and is determined the Sellers fortune will not destroy her the way it did her mother. Cassie is given certain things.
'But she is by no means a spoilt brat. Iris has instilled in Cassie the belief she needs to get a good education and stay away from the pitfalls of Hollywood – particularly the drugs and drink that killed her mother. Iris is a quietly formidable woman who is determined history will not repeat itself.’" - adml_shake, on 02/08/2009, -0/+22"Victoria, who spent 20 years in and out of prison and rehab, now ekes out a living as a jewellery designer in Los Angeles. She has always blamed her father’s betrayal for her own alcohol and drug abuse.
Now 44, she told a friend: ‘It’s something that’s always haunted me.
'I always wonder what my life might have been if I had the money. What could I have accomplished?"
You can take a look at Paris Hilton and the like to get a pretty good idea. - Biscuitz, on 02/08/2009, -15/+36Hmm, she's "just a normal person" but yet, she has to have some fancy apartment with some fancy service. Am I really the only one who'd not spend money on stupid ***** if I had it? Honestly, people with money are just dumb.
- Timmmm, on 02/08/2009, -12/+30Daily Mail = Buried
- BiscuitWorld, on 03/27/2009, -1/+17Peter Sellers had some issues with family... and booze... and cocaine... and da womens...
- nonymous666, on 02/08/2009, -1/+17It's not like she threw 1.2M away. She'd get it back when she sells the place.
Well, maybe not right now in this market, but later.
If she was spending it on living in a hotel room, then yeah, that would be crazy. - mille716, on 02/08/2009, -0/+15Was he really a "dick" or just a responsible parent instilling values in his child:
"In one appalling incident when Michael was just five, Sellers thrashed him mercilessly with his belt after the boy innocently tried to repair a tiny scratch on his father’s beloved Bentley.
Even after venting his fury, Sellers stormed inside and took away all Michael’s toys – leaving only one, on a shelf he could not reach.
Michael also revealed that Sellers sent him a letter when he was in his early teens saying: ‘I no longer wish to be thought of as your father. The time has come for you to continue on your own way. My final suggestion is that you change your surname.’"
Oh wait. Yup. He was a huge dick. - dancantone, on 02/08/2009, -1/+14Life can be so unfair!
- BiscuitWorld, on 03/27/2009, -1/+13referential pun fail
- dementedd, on 02/08/2009, -0/+12Correction: Her mom was so, so, so, so, so hot.
- UnWeave, on 02/08/2009, -2/+14I take everything the Daily Mail says with a bucket of rock-salt. Buried.
- rip747, on 02/08/2009, -0/+10to victoria: life sucks, get a helmet
- proliance, on 02/08/2009, -1/+11She sounds like she is handling the money better than most of us would.
- nonymous666, on 02/08/2009, -3/+12If you're not going to spend it on a place to live, what are you going to spend it on?
- Stavrosian, on 02/08/2009, -0/+9An apartment is an investment the same as any other property. Many young people find them most suitable for their needs (I did when I was her age) so there's nothing particularly outlandish about buying one. She can sell it and re-invest in another type of home when she wants to, it's not like it's money down the toilet.
Service is a nice convenience. It doesn't exactly cost the earth, and I'm sure she feels the benefit to her quality of life is worth it. Like I say, if you can't splash out on little luxuries like that when you are a multi-millionaire then what the hell is the point of having the money?
I'm not militant on the issue or anything, but I think it's ignorant of Biscuitz to call her dumb simply because she is in a position to afford herself amenities beyond his means. The whole point of being rich is the freedom to pay for things that you want rather than just those things which are necessary, there's nothing dumb about it at all. - cersad, on 02/08/2009, -0/+8Sounds from the article like this "heiress" doesn't even want the spotlight that this publication is trying to push on her. She refused interviews so they resort to her Facebook page to tell more about her? This is the most half-assed type of journalism you could possibly imagine. Where did they even get that picture of her?
- Halsfield, on 02/08/2009, -1/+9do you know what the word "was" means?
- dementedd, on 02/08/2009, -3/+10Her mom is so, so, so, so, so hot.
- AuldNic, on 02/08/2009, -0/+6She BORROWED 1.2M to buy a house and pays off the interest, much like all mortgage owners. The interest she earns on her fortune more than pays for the mortgage.
- nonymous666, on 02/08/2009, -1/+7Umm, yeah, reading the article, that's pretty obvious.
- Navicerts, on 02/08/2009, -2/+8I agree, I wouldn't spend more than 20% of my money on an apartment with 24 room service. I think I might buy land though, anything with more intrinsic value than an apartment.
- smacksaw, on 02/08/2009, -3/+9Peter Sellers, legendary...piece of *****.
What a ***** child. - CNAIF, on 02/08/2009, -1/+6Wonder if Steve Martin will imitate that as well.
- one504, on 02/08/2009, -6/+11It pays to pimp that MySpace page.
- Pasaris, on 02/08/2009, -1/+6***** Britt Ekland was beautiful. Check out the look on Sellers face in that photo. Lucky stiff.
- Bennzor, on 02/08/2009, -0/+5Peter Sellers says: "be a dick and hate your children"
no seriously if i were her i would give some money to Peters actual children
but no all of it - megabassist, on 02/08/2009, -0/+5Everytime I think of Peter Sellers I think of Dr. Strangelove
"Mein Führer! I can Walk!" - Gibletoid, on 02/08/2009, -0/+5Birdie num nums for her.
- PrintScrn12, on 02/08/2009, -0/+4If she is going to give away money why not give away to people more deserving and needy, as many charities provide.
- Spoomeister, on 02/08/2009, -1/+5It's kind of sad that my first thought when I saw this was, "5 million? Pfft. These days, in this economy, that's hardly a fortune."
- inactive, on 02/08/2009, -2/+6You don't have any family, you don't have any friends...YOU DON'T EVEN OWN ANY LAND!
- zebbers, on 02/08/2009, -0/+4Never saw Britt Ekland before. That is natural beauty as it was meant to be.
- Funkleft, on 02/08/2009, -6/+9perhaps something more permanent than an apartment to use while at college. Perhaps an actual house, and maybe not having service. That kind of money can keep you safe in all sorts emergencies and could help start a career in damn near anything. It shouldn't be wasted on temporary housing.
- saisumimen, on 02/08/2009, -0/+3His taste in women was good, though.
- dfross, on 02/08/2009, -0/+3The Party
- drunkenoaf, on 02/08/2009, -1/+4Although the Daily Mail is a terrible newspaper, I think they are capable of reporting that correctly. So they're not ***** you. This time.
- MrTeQ, on 02/08/2009, -2/+5I'm in line for Michael Jackson's Fortune...
- bongo, on 02/09/2009, -0/+3Boy, the things I could accomplish if I was only rich because of inheriting money from someone else who earned it. Instead, here I am not being rich, and what the hell am I supposed to do now?
- drunkenoaf, on 02/08/2009, -1/+4I was replying to the first comment, not the second. I've only just noticed they're from the same person.
If we're going to be bitchy, looking at your comment history suggests you don't know how to use the possessive apostrophe-- or capital letters at the beginning of sentences. - ENCOM511, on 02/08/2009, -0/+3If anything, his children should at least be offered the family heirlooms. There may be things that have been in the family for generations they would want to keep and pass on to their children.
- haikuFU, on 02/08/2009, -0/+3I like to watch.
- marstune89, on 02/08/2009, -0/+3"Sarah is the only one of the three who appears to have escaped her father’s shadow. Today she lives quietly and runs an antique teddy bear shop in Central London."
.... - Philbert, on 02/08/2009, -0/+3In USD it's 7.4 million.
- PrintScrn12, on 02/08/2009, -0/+3Use the money to ensure continual financial independence and security.
- ZincSaucier, on 02/08/2009, -0/+2you have to read a bit before the article is willing to admit that she is the daughter of his former wife
