Goodbye Majel, you'll be greatly missed. - WoundedCow, on 12/19/2008, -0/+151In 1986, when corresponding with Gene Roddenberry, it was Majel who sent me a metal comm badge from the upcoming series, the one I still use as a card protector in every poker tourney.
She and I wrote to each other once or twice a year for a while and in later years e-mailed.
For my son's sixth grade project, he created a board game of Star Trek Academy (this was eight years ago) and we sent it to her and she sent it back eight months later, telling us it was a fun game and they played it in the office, but that board games were out of fashion and it didn't pass a focus group test.
We still have 8 by 10s of her which she sent us, certificates of graduation from Star Fleet Academy, other trinkets of memorabilia, and a personal invitation from her to visit her if we ever came out to California.
For someone I never met, for all the emails and all the letters, she was a damn nice lady.
Eugene, if you read this, your mom made us feel special, just as we think she special is special. We'll say an extra prayer for her.
God Speed - inactive, on 12/19/2008, -7/+131Mr. Scott...one to beam up...Energize.
Ex astris, scientia.
Welcome home Mrs. Roddenberry, welcome home. - CPUYODA, on 12/19/2008, -0/+98Godspeed daughter of the Fifth House of Betazed, the Holder of the Sacred Chalice of Rixx, and Heir to the Holy Rings of Betazed
- Velnich, on 12/19/2008, -0/+80Very :-( I will have trouble accepting another computer voice.
- directive0, on 12/19/2008, -0/+66"Computer what is the nature of the universe?"
"The universe is a spheroid region, 705 meters in diameter."
RIP Computer, you will be missed. - digitalArtform, on 12/19/2008, -1/+51She featured in my favorite Star Trek blooper -

:D - patch6, on 12/19/2008, -0/+44She was such a colorful, capricious character on screen, who performed with the energy of someone half her age in later appearances.
Rest in peace. - JKAL, on 12/19/2008, -0/+41I'm a Star Wars geek, however I was always into the original Star Trek,
however I would go as far as saying she is the First Lady of all TV Sci-Fi, not just for Star Trek.
May she rest in peace. - MickJT, on 12/19/2008, -1/+42She's said so many phrases, I hope no-one takes her place. Her voice can be re-used and/or synthesized.
- ayeroxor, on 12/19/2008, -1/+38Protip: Question marks are typically reserved for questions.
- mikeophile, on 12/19/2008, -0/+34Program complete
- amoirae, on 12/19/2008, -0/+28At least she finished doing the voice tracks for the computer in the upcoming Star Trek movie just a few days before her death so we get her one last time.
- chmstar, on 12/19/2008, -0/+28One of the best episodes.
- Ne007, on 12/19/2008, -7/+33Time flies. Seems like yesterday she was on TNG as Lwaxana Troi. Although I really didn't like that character at all.
RIP. - DamienChaos, on 12/19/2008, -0/+26This is really sad news, but she definitely had a very full life and will be fondly remembered by many, many people worldwide. Her voice is just as distinctive, and as much a part of Trek, as the sound of a phaser or turbolift doors.
As to the voice of the Computer...how do you replace something irreplaceable? However, I did wonder... if another "Next, Next Generation" occurs, perhaps they could download Data's consciousness from B9 into some sort of centralized bank to act as the "Computer" for all starships. That way Brent Spiner could remain involved in Trek (as the disembodied voice of Data/Computer), without having to worry about aging out of his character. - rynsa, on 12/19/2008, -1/+25It's hard for me to imagine a universe without the delightfully lascivious Lwaxana Troi. You will most definitely be missed.
- inactive, on 12/19/2008, -15/+38Scotty talking to a Macintosh mouse in 1986 - "Hello Computer!"
- dsherman73, on 12/19/2008, -2/+23KAPLOK.... She Died with Honor... Like a Klingon. RIP... :-(
- inactive, on 12/19/2008, -0/+20yes, on TNG and it was hilarious
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 12/19/2008, -0/+19Just an excuse to shake the cameras more.
- BoneheadFarker, on 12/19/2008, -0/+18Qapla'
- bitweever, on 12/19/2008, -0/+17She *hated* the computer.
- LostOnion, on 12/19/2008, -1/+18I'm don't see how mourning the passing of a well liked actress is nerdy. It's called being human.
- Ph03N1X418, on 12/19/2008, -2/+19batlh Daqawlu'taH
(You will be remembered with honour!) - ben_nushmut, on 12/19/2008, -0/+16One more reason to see the new movie I guess. Last chance to hear Majel's Computer voiceovers.
- zadadka, on 12/19/2008, -0/+16?
"Kaplok is an unidentified Klingon act or custom, possibly sexually related." (startrek.wikia.com/wiki/Kaplok)
Why did you go for that phrase?
Even "Kerpla" means "success".
D-minus (See Me) - willster580, on 12/19/2008, -0/+15Wow. I'm actually impressed at how bad of a comment you could think of.
- wozj, on 12/19/2008, -0/+14A great legacy. Farewell & thank you!
- biznatch11, on 12/19/2008, -0/+14The inertial dampers were always going offline.
- CrossmenX, on 12/19/2008, -0/+14Never did get those rings.....
- ZenFu, on 12/19/2008, -0/+14This year really sucked. We've lost a LOT of good actors/actresses. Hopefully the deaths stop when next year begins.
RIP Majel, Don S Davis, Bernie Mac, George Carlin and Heath Ledger. You were all great actors and great people who went before your time. - Waiting2awake, on 12/19/2008, -0/+13Going to be a bit creepy watching that movie then, like watching ledger in Batman, or Brandon Lee in the Crow...
I once called an uncle once just to talk. My aunt had just died a few weeks prior. I got the answering machine with her voice... Completely creeped me out. - PabloIV, on 12/19/2008, -0/+13This made me feel vary sad this morning.
Her voice really helped warm what could otherwise have been a very cold role. - DirtyBinLV, on 12/19/2008, -0/+13If she wasn't done recording, they may need to have someone else redo her lines for the entire movie. Unless in the middle of the movie Kirk says "Computer, switch to female voice alpha 9".
- Plotinus, on 12/19/2008, -0/+13First lady of TV Sci-Fi indeed.
Now I am sad. - greenvortex, on 12/19/2008, -0/+12Her voice is the voice of the computer, just as Don LaFontaine was the voice of the movies. It is now engrained in the collective human subconscious. When A.I. supercedes us, it will be with Majel's voice. R.I.P.
- dynamojoe, on 12/19/2008, -0/+12God Speed, Lady Morella...
- bjs3171, on 12/19/2008, -1/+12holy ***** i had no idea she was Gene's wife, or the computer voice. did lwaxana ever talk to the computer?
- CJDarkhaven, on 12/19/2008, -2/+13I ***** LOVED that episode that revolved around Dr. Crusher, good call!
- neocreo, on 12/19/2008, -2/+13Very sad... she was very talented and did a lot for the sci-fi community
- TheSkunkMonkey, on 12/19/2008, -0/+10This was the first scene that popped into my head when reading the news of her passing.
She truly was a talented woman with a great sense of humor. She will be missed. - ru486, on 12/19/2008, -1/+11She had a good run.
- MarrowMan, on 12/19/2008, -1/+11'nother legend dead.
- FallenTurtles, on 12/19/2008, -1/+11"If there's nothing wrong with me... there must be something wrong with the universe!"
- jupufo, on 12/19/2008, -0/+9Very sad, everyone just keeps getting older and older... RIP, Majel
- black27696, on 12/19/2008, -2/+11vulcans don't mourn death. She's old and died, seems logical.
