- Jabrams2, on 02/27/2009, -0/+41Man, if I didn't wake up for less then $10,000 a day, I would have been dead a long time ago. I think I found my new profession. Now if only I were 6 feet tall, skinny, and hot. Oh, and a woman.
- RoroCo, on 02/27/2009, -1/+30That is ok... I like my super models asleep. It is the only chance I got.

- CosmicSombrero, on 02/27/2009, -2/+17I don't get it.
Google is offering $30 million to the first team of people that can:
1) build, fly, and land a robot on the moon.
2) drive it at least 500 meters
3) transmit back HD-quality video of the lunar surface
While modeling contracts pay Gisele Bündchen $35 million a year to do... what? I'm sure its a hard life, but seriously? - guybrush3000, on 02/27/2009, -0/+15I'm a little confused. Is this adjusted for inflation? If not, it's hard for these numbers to mean much.

Sell *****. - zaferk, on 02/27/2009, -0/+11$300,000 in 1940 is $4,391,126 in 2007

- isorfir, on 02/27/2009, -0/+8Have you ever wondered if there was more to life, other than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?
- PixelPusher74, on 02/27/2009, -1/+8No, you need to be tall and skinny and look like you're on heroin (Cindy Crawford is the 1 exception)
- sggrissom, on 02/27/2009, -0/+7It's certainly interesting but it seems fairly worthless without being adjusted for inflation. How much more is Gisele's current $35 million a year than Dorian Leigh's $300,000 a year in the 40's?
- DouglasQ, on 02/27/2009, -0/+7You sound like my Dad.
...Why is Mum crying again? - shatters, on 02/27/2009, -1/+7$300,000 in the 40's is roughly equivalent to $4,524,492.86 now.
from http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl - migitalwarfare, on 02/27/2009, -0/+4no, it's a combination of herpes and crabs
- sildude, on 02/27/2009, -2/+6Dugg for Adriana Lima.
- trapper2530, on 02/27/2009, -0/+4Is that a combination of a motel 6 and super 8?
- MakinBacon, on 02/27/2009, -0/+4Ah yes... modeling, prostitution and porn. The only three professions in the world were women make more than men.
- zaferk, on 02/27/2009, -0/+3Well that's ok, models aren't known for being very bright...much less accountable.
- Y0tsuya, on 02/27/2009, -0/+3Hope she remembered to pay her taxes, before her accountant embezzled it.
- inactive, on 02/27/2009, -1/+3Anyone else mystified as to why Gisele is the highest paid? Lima and Ambrosio are both better looking, face and body.
- mjk340, on 02/27/2009, -0/+2What can I get for 20 bucks and a night at the Motel 8?
- Fastfuud, on 02/27/2009, -3/+5Getting paid for being born.
- Amadeus2490, on 02/27/2009, -0/+2Acting/modeling is a really repetitive, difficult and annoying job from what I hear.
And according to the American Federation of Musicians, the vast majority of professional musicians quit the industry within 2 years when they discover that they can't make ***** by just getting on stage, or in the studio and jamming. - SumoSniper, on 02/28/2009, -0/+2Crap, this is insane.
These people getting paid for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, something the rest of us have to do between doing real work and managing a personal life. Eat right (easy to do if you're getting paid buckets full of cash), go to the gym. That's it. That's all of it, the rest of the time people who get paid a lot less fawn over them to make them pretty, take excellent photos, photoshop it, then decide how to present that in a marketing campaign. If these people are lucky, their combined pay might equal that of the model.
Seriously, these people are being paid ***** to be empty canvases with a name, because often without make up and photoshop they're merely decent looking. - HeDiggMe, on 02/27/2009, -0/+2$300k in 1949 dollars = $2.7M 2009 dollars using the CPI. Not bad.
- jasdf, on 02/27/2009, -0/+2Very modest.
- rrouse, on 02/27/2009, -0/+2I wonder what the photographers make?
- stanleyford, on 02/27/2009, -0/+2No, they do not. This might explain the weird looks you get in the checkout aisle at the supermarket.
- NicoNicoNico, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1Well, to be fair, even though they only have to work like two weeks a year, runway models often have to work 15 hours, the vast majority of which is doing makeup and adjusting clothes. They can get so tired that they'll try to catch a few minutes of sleep sitting in a chair. To make matters worse, many, many of those girls don't make near $10k.
- NicoNicoNico, on 02/27/2009, -1/+2In all fairness to Google, after the team that wins makes that robot, they could sell it to some place like NASA for a lot more.
I know from experience that modeling is hard (what? before I got hurt, I was going to get a contract and everything. :( now I'm fat and my leg looks like it went through a paper shredder). Imagine having to be on the top of your game for days on end, working 15 hour days, just so you could look hot for a brand. Not only that, but they can't just gorge on donuts or sit on their ass, they have to maintain that figure for the whole year. To make it worse, if their BMI goes over 21, they look like a fatass on the runway but, if it goes under 17, they get ridiculed for looking/being anorexic. For people who don't know what BMI is, for a woman who's 5'11', a 17 is 122 lbs and 21 is 150 lbs.
Not as hard as rocket science by any means, but at least those scientists who win can go back and design a new robot to sell in a few years. Models can't actually go back to modeling after a few years, unless they want to be seen as washed up. - SumoSniper, on 02/28/2009, -0/+1Models don't know what "inflation" means?
How do you think they got into the business? - Amadeus2490, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1Because she has a better agent.
- wiirdo, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1That's more money than all Diggers combined.
- ImYourRealDad, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1even now i'd be more than happy to make 300k a year.
- Stupidumb, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1Retarded
- themastersb, on 02/28/2009, -0/+1Then you'll have moobs and wonder why you were cursed.
- whatupdoc18, on 02/27/2009, -1/+2I don't think models know what "inflation" means, but you have a really good point about this article
300,000 in the 1940's would translate to around 3.5 million now - yuejdesigner85, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1well, you can't really buy jack with $100,000 these days.
- jitterbits, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1Me too. :(
- lithiumtaoist, on 03/01/2009, -0/+1Wow. Way to get paid to do nothing but take up space. Decorative as they may be, no piece of furniture should cost that much.
- obliadi852, on 02/28/2009, -0/+1if you're with the right , then yes
supermarket...no - Llanowar, on 02/28/2009, -0/+1Adriana Lima is the best exception.
She is one of the highest paid supermodels. And she is in no way skinny and heroin whore looking. - NicoNicoNico, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1There are male models. They only make $2500 a day as opposed to the $10k for women. Granted, men tend to not get as much notoriety, so a relatively unknown model can make that much, while a woman has to make a big name of themselves before they can make the big bucks.
The benefit to being a male model is that their average weight is 140-160lbs. Decent enough, if you workout some. - ultrafez, on 03/01/2009, -0/+1This is disgusting. People are played so much for doing so little; there are thousands of people out there that can do the exact same thing as these supermodels, and do a good job of it, but are unheard of because they are normal people. Why is it that people who are integral to our society such as teachers get paid so little yet work incredibly hard, and people who do ***** all get paid so much? It's shocking.
- PatrickX, on 02/28/2009, -0/+1Gisele is a butterface... how the hell does she get paid that much
- GoatMonkey2112, on 02/27/2009, -2/+3On top of making that much they also don't spend anything on food. They eat 1 Dorito in a commercial and they're set for the month.
- NicoNicoNico, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1Many models are now from countries who don't speak English as a first language. Estonia is only one country in a long list of names.
- Syntheticbadger, on 02/28/2009, -0/+1The problem is, why would a digger (presumably male), be on Elle magazine?
- NicoNicoNico, on 02/27/2009, -0/+1Not *all* models are dumb. I know someone who did the runway scene in Paris for a few years, then used that money to pay for law school.
