- ChronicColonic, on 10/10/2007, -9/+50If someone with multiple personality disorder is threatening suicide, would that be considered a hostage situation?
- jasonvw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22Actually, it happens to real people all the time. My father tried to OD on Oxycotyn after my mother left him. My mother has been battling suicidal thoughts ever since the divorce. I personally went through a deep depression when I was young. Being temperamental has nothing to do with it. People tend to put celebrities on some sort of pedestal, when in fact, they are really no different than us. Maybe I need to lighten up, but to me, suicide is not something to joke about.
- lordtyros, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20"Houston – the R&B singer was stopped after he tried to throw himself out of a hotel window in 2005, and then gouged out his own eye."
That's pretty ***** hardcore - leathersleeves, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Is it wrong that I laughed at Eminem's Tylenol suicide attempt? Hardcore bro, hardcore.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16I was going to... then decided to get help
- Benprofane, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know.
-Ernest Hemingway - chubbybubba, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14What a Bunch of Quitters!
- BuffalOBisoN, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10I actually DO get it. If I ever want to off myself i'll be sure to do it in a manner that leaves no room for failure. Why go about your final act on this earth in a half-ass fashion?
- Frnnkdlxx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Like a wall measuring laser-light?
- psykiv, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10comment of the week!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10In the majority of these cases these folks were simply crying out for help, not attempting suicide. Overdosing is likely far from conclusive in the mind of a suicidal person. Slashing your wrists is effective, but gives you precious time to reconsider. If they really wanted a sure-fire conclusion, they'd have shot themselves in the mouth (not the stomach!).
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It probably has to do with having ones life under a constant microscope. Where every action whether good or bad is magnified by 3 billion. There is also the side of a personality that draws them to be an artists. An attempt to create something to better others, but also to validate ones own worth in the world. And when one becomes a celebrity, or even a nobody, when every day they wake up with the challenge of validating ones own existence through the expression of their talent, or lack thereof, it can ***** with your head.
- 11Heather, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9Do you think there's something temperamental about celebs that makes them less stable and more prone to suicide? I've never considered taking my life. Does this mean I'd suck on stage?
- wolfer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Yeah, if you take too much you can die.
- Frnnkdlxx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5BREAKING! fxlingling commits suicide after forgetting to add the sarcasm icon!
- theradical, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8I don't mean to sound insensitive but some of these are not really attempts at all. Walking out into traffic? Throwing yourself down some stairs? If you really want the job done properly, you find yourself something a little more precise.
- ClOlD, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Long? HA!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_suicides - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Being a celeb with all of the money and fame just amplifies you, your thoughts, emotions, etc. I'm not surprised at all that these people tried.....I'm sure the list of people who succeeded is longer.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6What the ***** are you tlakijng about? How on earth can you turn this into one of your sorry ass atheist rants? None of what you said is true, or makes any sense.
- BuffalOBisoN, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Those are the people that got it right.
- leathersleeves, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4i sense misunderstood humor...
- Kurisuku, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I remember this. He actually thought there were demons in his head, hence why he removed his eye to get the demons out. Wicked.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+10You just don't get it. One day life will hit you hard and you will be sorry you made this comment.
- drunkard, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I knew someone for whom overdosing was certainly decisive.
- cleric85, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4how is it surprisingly long? I find it short.
- nreynolds, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I'm not saying I wish these people had succeeded in killing themselves, but if they really want to die, they would have chosen more... proven.. methods. I don't believe you truly want to die if you take a bunch of tylenols. I believe you're (you = a depressed person, not you personally) depressed and want to do something drastic, but if you really wanted to kill yourself, there are simpler and more effective ways of doing it. Furthermore, if someone wants to kill themselves, that's their decision, and I don't have to ***** cry about it. I ***** KNOW I'm gunna get dugg down, I'm not pro-suicide, but someone should be able to chose if they want to end their own life, as cowardly as I think that is(except in rare circumstances).
- Rezzy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Does this list's length really warrant three 'o's?
- tehpwnrate, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3That's what she said! Wait... damn.
- jotux, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5People don't try to commit suicide, they try to get attention. If you really wanted to kill yourself it'd be easy enough.
- IllBeBack, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Well, that's certainly a messy way. Helium is far less painful and is 100% effective.
- nreynolds, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2nothing misunderstood about it, it was just lame.
- nedzeve, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Actually, about 8 grams of Tylenol will cause acute liver failure and thus you will die. That's a mere 16 tablets.
- Zoshchenko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2There's no such thing as a .38 magnum, so it wouldn't be very effective either.
- xvertigox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Slitting your wrists is effective? Not even close. You have to be pretty ***** determined to make an inch deep incision running down the length of your arm.
- xvertigox, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3You could have just said "I know nothing about suicide and it's causes" and gotten the exact same point across.
- nedzeve, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why? It's a very effective way to kill yourself. 16 500 mg tablets. Liver failure is neither pretty nor painless.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah...because no one ever lies on the internet to make their sorry-ass lives seem better. And replying to your own lies only makes it worse on yourself. (And by the way, you know how we can tell you are making it up? Because it had nothing to do with your comment. You just felt the need to say "Hey., I am famous!" Famous people don't do that.)
- winmywii, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2most of them tried before they were famous.
- arcooke, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3A real suicide "attempt" is a rarity. They're usually desperate cries for help, not attention. It's not hard to kill yourself, if you really want to do it, you can do it with ease.
- Coffeedemon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Didn't make this one laugh when my 18 year old cousin shot himself behind the gas station 3 days before grad... in fact I cried for his lost life and for his parents/my family's loss.
Read up on the Christianity.... your judgements are decidely NOT Christian. - joot2112, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's true and most people don't realize how dangerous Tylenol is. I know someone who attempted Tylenol OD and she has had 2 liver transplants since then.
- joot2112, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't know why people are digging you down. This is important information, people.
- pr1268, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, it was around 1993 or so and some radio station I was listening to at the time had a 10-second humorous bumper summarizing Vanilla Ice's fall from stardom. The bit sampled several seconds of a few of his hits, then a loud record needle scratch and then (in a punk-sounding voice): "Yo! Will that be paper or plastic?!!"
- NeoTEKK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1List please.
- frankbank, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I noticed some pepole have laughed at Eminem's attempt using Tyelnol--well check the facts yourself-its one of the most lethal drugs that you get to OD on. Hes lucky he lived...
- londubh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That is a tragedy. I looked him up and he did the voice of Mozenrath in Disney's animated series Aladdin. I thought he did a good job with the character.
- TOMHTML, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Halle Berry never attempted to suicide! She affirmed on a French TV that the story reported by "Parade" was completely false.
- Xemus83, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Does anybody else think it's ironically funny that his mother's name is LaTylanol Houston?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houston_%28singer%29 - orph3us, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1*****, i was trying not to say that i've been suicidal in the past and I do know a thing or two about the motivation for it. What I'm trying to say is when someone is attempting suicide it most certainly is a cry for help. It's a cry for help in a way that they don't know how to say otherwise. It's about powerful emotions that you don't know how to face. It's about not knowing how to tell people about these emotions. Attempting suicide is one way of communicating those emotions, not something to be encouraged, but a method of communication nonetheless. I'm also trying to say that purporting the idea that conclusive suicides are good is just a result of machismo and pride and should not be encouraged. Pride should be completely be dropped out of the picture when dealing with these powerful emotions. Besides, these issues are many times the result of a malformed ego. The fact that your ego gets in the way of you healing is the reason people can't face up to their emotions and do the stupid thing and rely on a "conclusive suicide" to fix their problems.......
