- Quick2822, on 06/29/2008, -26/+258I mean, I'm not glad she is dead or anything, and when people die it is sad, but why is this making the front page of Digg? Didn't realize there was such a large group of modeling fans here.
- jontalisman, on 06/29/2008, -10/+195Sounds suspicious to me.
- Shoegaze99, on 06/29/2008, -4/+170Remember when "supermodel" actually meant that you were recognizable and famous and people knew who the hell you were because your face was everywhere?
- alanocu, on 06/29/2008, -2/+124In the months leading up to her death, she posted a series of emotionally-revealing poems and statements on her social networking page. Three months ago, she wrote: 'I'm so lost. Will I ever find myself'. And in January, she wrote: 'It hurts, as if someone took a part of me, tore it out, mercilessly stomped all over and threw it out.
'My dream is to fly. Oh, my rainbow it is too high.'

- Cheep, on 06/29/2008, -13/+121She was drop-dead gorgeous.
- bwonder, on 06/29/2008, -45/+138Did she drop any good loot?
- yohnstoppable, on 06/29/2008, -10/+102I'd hit it like the pavement.
Too soon? - kolop1, on 06/29/2008, -29/+120She was so skinny I'm surprised she didn't just fall lightly to the ground like a feather.
- pauleric, on 06/29/2008, -3/+89The same reason Fox News likes to run stories about young blonde girls who are crime victims. What brings in more viewers: Hot chick or middle-aged bald fat guy?
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -49/+134Millions of people kill themselves every week, why is this person of note? Because she was considered attractive? Sorry, that's ***** shallow.
I'm sorry she felt such pain that she had to top herself, but the publicity over this is motivated by the most superficial of concerns. - 4vector, on 06/29/2008, -59/+125I'll rub one out for her.
- BossKey, on 06/29/2008, -3/+67"Millions of people" ?

wtf are you talking about? does the world own this girl or what she was? jeez, if she wants to go out, let her. her life is hers, idiot. - Aroundtheworls, on 06/29/2008, -6/+57Alright, listen up, diggers. That social networking page is out there somewhere, right now. Our suspect has died only a matter of hours ago which means that the page likely still active and at large. What I want from each and every one of you is a hard-target search of every gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse and doghouse on the Internets. Checkpoints go up at fifteen miles. Your fugitive page is on myspace, facebook, or xanga. Go get it!
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -14/+54She was famous for being hot, kind of like paris hilton is famous for being a ho.
What makes her special enough for us to honor her as opposed to any other suicidal 20 something who hops out of a building? If this was anyone else, you'd all call her emo, which she IS.
I am not saying that I'm glad she killed herself, as all death is sad, but what makes her death any more important? Honestly? - Shoegaze99, on 06/29/2008, -11/+48"why is this making the front page of Digg?"
Because some Diggers misread the URL as "huffingtonpost.com" - alanocu, on 06/29/2008, -4/+39spectatorr also submitted this news - a different article, but has more details and photos: http://digg.com/celebrity/20_year_old_model_plumme ...

Pretty crappy loot table for a super model. - Dan005, on 06/29/2008, -12/+43I don't digg stupidity.
- BossKey, on 06/29/2008, -2/+32Not in a Newtonian universe.
- djcll6122, on 06/29/2008, -2/+30the source says shes 20 yrs old
- alanocu, on 06/29/2008, -1/+27I should have said an 'apparent' suicide in the headline, Investigators were still examining the scene late yesterday, but a police source said there was no sign of a struggle in the apartment. It was unclear if anyone else was in the apartment at the time of the fall or if a suicide note was found. The city medical examiner is to determine the cause of death.
- modifiedbears, on 06/29/2008, -1/+27Her beauty robbed her of a real world.
- kolop1, on 06/29/2008, -6/+32Yes it's better when ugly women die.
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -5/+29i dugg up the "sounds suspicious comment" but now that i think about it, this is not all that suspicious.
when i lived at an apartment complex in a college town, there were maybe half a dozen drunk girls that fell from their third story balconies throughout the years and somehow survived. this ruslana korshunova was a model, probably high on whatever or drunk out of her mind. its not out of the realm of possibility. - inactive, on 06/29/2008, -0/+23Yeah, I overstated that. It's about 140,000 per week, but that only counts successful suicides, there are many many more that survive suicide attempts.
The problem is that the figures are by no means agreed upon. Estimates of under-reportage range from around 1% to 300%, so good luck on finding accurate figures. - inactive, on 06/29/2008, -1/+23The creepiness of your comment was increased by your user name...
**shudders** - fas2, on 06/29/2008, -6/+27No, she was prominent. See, that is how news work. They report stuff that might interest a large group of people.
- KMartSheriff, on 06/29/2008, -0/+18Well at least you aren't an ***** or anything.
- TheGooseyOne, on 06/29/2008, -1/+19What you did there.
I see it. - Laminarcissus, on 06/29/2008, -2/+18Without disturbing the cleverness of your post, there's no evidence she was using drugs of any kind.
- diggydougie, on 06/29/2008, -1/+17No wind drag. If she had the size of a fat person but still weighed the same as she does (did) then she might have floated down.
- burnedtubes, on 06/29/2008, -9/+25It's always sad when beautiful successful people do this. They are sooo much more important than everyone else.
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -1/+16"meaningful porpoise", kinda like Flipper?
- jontalisman, on 06/29/2008, -1/+16Something about the way the article mentioned the netting had been cut and the picture of it (which looks more ripped to me) just doesn't seem to jive.
Strikingly beautiful girl. Such a shame... - Laminarcissus, on 06/29/2008, -1/+15How about that they are just as susceptible to clinical depression as anyone else, and clinical depression is so powerful a disease that all these "cures" that people think must work, like money, relationships, success, or being told to "snap out of it and appreciate what you have" have as much effect as they do on cancer.
The progress of CD is very much like cancer. Left untreated, it will either gradually worsen, leaving you disabled and in chronic pain, or it will kill you, as it did her. But unlike cancer it also has the strange ability to cause you to not want to get treatment, hastening your deterioration.
So maybe you could carve off just a little sympathy for someone who dies of a disease you don't have? Tiny bit? - judicar, on 06/29/2008, -11/+25She's forever young now.
- etx313, on 06/29/2008, -8/+21But its one hellofuh drug.
- xero69, on 06/29/2008, -2/+15sarcasm
Wait, you mean external beauty doesn't bring true happiness?
/sarcasm
Very sad to lose someone in such a way, we all need to take our mental health a little more seriously - inactive, on 06/29/2008, -4/+16Is it typing your comments in that make people feel so detached? I've never seen so many heartless comments about such a tragedy, one low life posted "he'd still hit it" at a lame attempt towards humor. It mentions her age as 20 and 22 so I'm don't know, but in any case she was just starting her life. Somewhere, a mother and father are mourning the loss of their little girl, and some of you son's of whores can't wait to use her death as an attempt to be witty. You're not funny, you're lower than whale ***** and you will reap what you sow.
- virtualball, on 06/29/2008, -0/+11Orrrr, she could have been a depressed human being who wanted to end her life. Look at what she posted about being "lost" and such. I don't think you needed to say that she was probably strung out on something...
- spectatorr, on 06/29/2008, -1/+12Yeah you beat me to the story by about 30 seconds!
Such a sad story. I can only guess what led her to do it. - johnnyfoto11, on 06/29/2008, -8/+19Millions of people a week huh?
- jxfallout, on 06/29/2008, -1/+12If we're going by the descriptions that you've just used ("...she has the same lifeless expression on her face." and "She looks like a tormented soul."), then I'm sure there would be A LOT more dead supermodels via suicide.
- Laminarcissus, on 06/29/2008, -1/+11Actually, about 30,000 per year kill themselves in the US, it's the 11th leading cause of death.
But I think the important stat, and the one that address your question, is that it's the 3rd leading cause of death of people age 15 - 24.
This person is "of note" because she's "of note, " and her death may provide an opportunity for people to talk to friends or family about clinical depression that they think might be at risk.
Hate to yank out the old "start a dialogue" thing, but the more people with clinical depression think it's only them (also a symptom of the disease, BTW), and the more of a stigma there is on talking to others or getting treatment, the more likely they are to have no one intervene before the disease kills them. - yohnstoppable, on 06/29/2008, -1/+11I've always thought of supermodels as overly skinny women who aren't really all that hot, and wear stupid clothes. I've never understood the fascination with curveless, boney women
- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -4/+14Well, you know, I think George Carlin achieved somewhat more for the entertainment business, society in general and as a creative talent than just wearing clothes and getting photographed.
This woman's talent amounted to having a good set of genes. That's it. Carlin was a comic genius. There is no comparison, at all. -
