- Luthor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Just because people celebrate Stan doesn't mean they're taking a ***** on the King. They are both legends and the entertainment world wouldn't be what it is without their contributions.
- Daedalus81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Pretty spry for an old guy!
- JacNet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5When this was submitted(18hours ago) it was. :D

Excelsior!
'nuff said! - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5wow, so eloquently put.....you sir are a wordsmith
But, seriously, ***** you. Comic books are full of great, memorable characters and moving, cinematic stories. The Supermen, the Spider-Men, they're just stand-ins for the real heroes in this world.
Are comic books escapist literature? Sure they are, but there's nothing wrong with that. Comic books take you to many different worlds and explore hundreds of interesting storylines...some of us like to turn away from the doom and gloom of the daily news and dive into a universe full of amazing characters with astonishing abilities. - Jolene, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Excelsior!
A look back. Stan Lee in 1973.

Also see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stan_Lee for more on Stan Lee's amazing career. - Modulo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wolverine is in the club, gonna call you bub
He's representing X if you into mutant thugs
He'll make them claws go snikt, cause they admantium
But don't give him a hug cause he don't like gettin' bugged
(who's next, keep it going - for the love of christ don't keep it going with wolverine, one verse is enough ok GO) - jpburns, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Co-creator.
Jack Kirby contributed a lot to the process; like drawing the comics, coming up with stories and characters, and that sort of thing. Stan suggested plots and wrote dialog. - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Lee and Kirby were both instrumental in bringing some of the best superheros to life. I don't think either one of them did more of the work
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4stan lee the original superheroâ„¢
- Modulo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This depends on whether or not you are allergic to being frozen in an iceberg.
- hudson99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Here you go:
Now you don't have to wait anymore. - Modulo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3zkakisochra - what the christ, quit ***** up this thread, this is about celebrating a man who helped fuel the imagination of millions of kids across the world not a scumbag tyrant ***** dictator who personally executed and tortured his political enemies. asshead.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Excelsior!
Happy Birthday, Stan. Here's to another 84!
(I know that would be a record and all, but the guy created the X-Men, so who knows what mutant powers he has?) - JacNet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Happy Birthday Stan.
- jcdickerson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Stan Lee, senselessly attached by wolves, still alive at age 84.
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It is wildly off tangent. How does the reaction (or, in your opinion, lack of it) to that story have anything to do with Stan Lee's Birthday? I know it's tough... but let's try to stay remotely on topic.
Stan Lee FTW! - Remy_LeBeau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Excelsior!
- MobbyG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I met Stan Lee in New York City, in 1989 at a comic convention at the Roosevelt Hotel. While I was in line waiting to get his autograph after a Q & A session with him, I think I was like #3 after like 15 or 20 mins, an older man came walking into the room. Stan stood up and announced to everyone that he wanted to introduce Jack Kirby! It was awesome! Even though Jack wasn't signing autographs that day, it was still great to meet him and I walked away with this!

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Congrats Stan! No idea you were this old.
- wildjohn999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Stan was an unknown on NBC's Identity. He looked healthy and closer to his 60s than 84.
- MontyZooma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Happy Birthday Stan!
- Modulo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2writing is an art too, by the hoary hosts of hoggoth, calm thyself, true believer.
- Kevinok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ TehChrisMeister Wow great observation.
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not... really.
- Modulo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm going to second that "***** you" to xbasilx and raise you a "die in a fire.". Way to jabber like an idiot about something you clearly don't know the first thing about.
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I kind of concur. It's nice to celebrate it though, and while Stan's 84th may not be huge news - I'd rather see that hit the front page than "Naked Girls Wearing Nothing But Game Stuff"...
...um, ok - maybe not, but you get the point. - JacNet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@arewhyfour
Timezones. - jamessavik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From just another mutant,
here's to Stan Lee- one of the most influential artist of our times and a stand up guy: happy birthday and wishing you many more. - JohnKappa, on 10/25/2008, -0/+1Thank you for the hours of entertainment, from my days as a kid waking up at 6am to watch Spiderman, to now reading the comics and watching the films.
Love your work mate... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That was odd, last night at like 2am it said it was submitted like a hour ago.
- Kii666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Stan is the man!
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1one problem..........he's not an artist, he can't draw.
It's great to celebrate someone and not actually know what they have contributed to the world - stelriah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow slow day in the news room.
- orlandogeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Indeed he is, and still incredibly humble and grounded.
- ManOfTomorrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I met Stan many years ago back at Comic-Con. It was around closing time, he'd been there all day, but looked like he wasn't going to leave until everyone else did. Always full of energy, always will put a smile on anyone's face. That man will outlive us all.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That would be cool for digg to make a little section of digg for birthdays so we could make a user-driven birthday database that could expand into user-driven person profiles.
Maybe not. - bat-21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I saw that one. He was obviously enjoying himself, but the contestant was a ditz. I was jumping up and down on the couch yelling "IT'S STAN LEE, BITCH!"
- tmv32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Happy Birthday Stan Lee!!
- thedez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Stan Lee, alive today at the senseless age of 84.
- hudson99, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I don't like "ImTheDarkcyde"s tone but I kind of have to agree. The article just basically says it's Stan's Birthday and says nothing about him so why is this news?
Some of the links in the comments might be diggworthy in light of it being his birthday, but the mere fact that he has a birthday isn't very interesting on it's own. - Conwaysb0718, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Cheers to many more!
- TehChrisMeister, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I love Stan Lee, but as soon as I saw his picture back in 1973, just reminded me of Tony Clifton(For you Andy Kaufman fans)
- fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Happy B-Day Stan, you are now a year closer to death...
- sergsamohin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Happy Birthday!!
- Syndrome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Many happy returns :P, does anyone else think he looks a bit like Jerry Pournelle? :P
- itsHef, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I respect the man to death but after the "Who Wants to be a Superhero" reality show, I can't say I think his mind is in mint condition.
