- RAAFStupot, on 10/30/2009, -0/+38And just to add to his street cred:
- He served with Special Operations Executive in WW2 - details of his actions are still classified;
- He is fluent in English, Italian, French, Spanish and German, and moderately proficient in Swedish, Russian and Greek;
- He is a cousin of Ian Fleming; - cr0m300, on 10/30/2009, -0/+29Nice. This man is an unappreciated living legend. A lot of young people just know him as Count Dooku and Willy Wonka's dad(in the remake).
It would behoove you to lookup some of his old pictures with Hammer Films. - gramathy, on 10/30/2009, -1/+28So the two wizards in LOTR are actually knights?
I'm so confused....
/s - Awwzm, on 10/30/2009, -0/+24Well deserved. I can't believe he's still going strong at 87!
- diskman2000, on 10/30/2009, -0/+22I remember him in the James Bond flick - The Man With The Golden Gun. He had a sweet AMC Matador that even turned into a plane.
- rpapi100, on 10/30/2009, -0/+19AND HE'S A FRAKING WIZARD-VAMPIRE-SITH!!!!!
excuse me, got carried away.
Still nice resume. - SchrodingersCar, on 10/30/2009, -1/+1687 years old and he can handle a lightsaber way better than Sam Jackson...
- Bkkgnar, on 10/30/2009, -0/+14It's because he's a wizard.
- jboitnott, on 10/30/2009, -3/+14Ha - the picture of Lee and Prince Charles makes me laugh because it should actually be the other way around. Christopher Lee should be knighting people, and not the batty Prince of Wales.
- burrdugg, on 10/30/2009, -0/+10The royal family is knighting weak warriors in my opinion. If the queen is ever in danger, none of those celebrities are going to be capable of defending her.
- borez, on 10/30/2009, -0/+9I remember him so much better as Francisco Scaramanga.
- palehorse864, on 10/30/2009, -0/+9Plus, it had one of the most incredible film stunts, the corkscrew ramp. No special effects or anything, just a ramp and a lot of calculations. Too bad an otherwise brilliant soundtrack guy decided to include a slide whistle as part of the music during that part, ruining the scene.
- UhNathUhMuh, on 10/30/2009, -0/+8Grats, Dracula!
- st0ney, on 10/30/2009, -1/+8Saruman
- borez, on 10/30/2009, -0/+6No, it's the the fickleness of digg nowadays.
I no understand comment... I digg down. - jordanlgta, on 10/30/2009, -0/+5Talk about living an amazing life. If only all of our lives could be as fulfilling!
- Enlefo, on 10/30/2009, -3/+8"You have seen it Gandalf, a single eye, lidless, wreathed in flame." That's guys delivery is sooo amazing.
- Kitakaze, on 10/30/2009, -0/+5He's a seriously under-appreciated actor, and as happy as I am at his success, I feel frustrated that he always got typecast as the stereotypical villain. Ian McKellan is a great actor, and probably a very nice person, and he did a fantastic job as Gandalf — but Lee should have gotten that role. He wanted it. And he was the only cast member of LOTR to actually have met Tolkien. And, he reads LOTR once a year. Jackson did an unbelievably great job with the movie, but damn — those movies would have been even better with Lee as Gandalf.
- AgeofMastery, on 10/30/2009, -1/+6He was a great Dracula, but his best role was Lord Summerisle in the original version of The Wicker Man
- AssShanks, on 10/30/2009, -2/+6I love that thumbnail...
"I gots my medal, bitch!" - Phooka1976, on 10/30/2009, -0/+4About time!
- NorrisOBE, on 10/30/2009, -0/+4And the Vampires shall Rise.......
(Except for the Sparkly ones from Forkes, Washington) - themastersb, on 10/31/2009, -0/+4I know him as Saruman.
- MyNameIsGusto, on 10/30/2009, -1/+4"You know of what I speak, Gandalf; a great eye, lidless, wreathed in flame." Get it right or pay the price.
- ultraJesus, on 10/30/2009, -0/+3ITS SARUMAAAAAAAAAAAAN
- Enlefo, on 10/30/2009, -2/+4The price? Jesus crap quit trolling.
- PFCWilliams, on 10/30/2009, -1/+3Good for Christopher Lee. He may not have been in the best movies but his career has far outlasted many others who have come and gone.
- diskman2000, on 10/30/2009, -0/+2Ahh the fickleness of the internet. I thought the movie was good. Maybe they disagree with me. :)
- wilf_brim, on 10/31/2009, -0/+2Lee as Scaramanga was one of the best Bond villains, ever. Ruthless, charming, but not over the top. It would have been very easy to ***** that role up, but he nailed it. And the Golden Gun was one of the niftiest gadgets in any Bond film.
- Skurt, on 10/30/2009, -1/+3But why would they Knight him if he was already a Knight?
*Sir* Christopher Lee Knighted
shouldn't that be:
Christopher Lee Knighted
because he wasn't a Knight yet?
Or now that he *is* a Knight this form of grammer is correct in the present tense?
/confused - OBKenobi, on 11/01/2009, -0/+2That was Christopher Lee on acid.
- Rizzen, on 10/31/2009, -0/+2I agree with you to a point. I felt the end was just handled poorly in general, it dragged on too long not doing anything in particular, which makes one want it replaced with something better. If it had a tighter ending I might be more inclined to agree with its leaving out.
Also I think he was cast just right, not saying he couldn't have done a superb Gandalf but I think it worked out in the best way possible. - gramathy, on 10/31/2009, -0/+2I dunno who would have been able to pull off Saruman. The sickly sweet (not the best descriptor, but he WAS said to have amazing persuasive powers) evil wizard is NOT easy to pull off.
I wish they had gone with the book's resolution to his story though. Falling off Orthanc just seemed too...sudden. And getting rid of the events in the Shire just disappointed me. - yosafbridge, on 10/30/2009, -0/+2Finally, I've been waiting for this for about a decade.
- mabsark, on 10/30/2009, -1/+2burdugg: You are a foolish old man who knows nothing about defense!
[ignites lightsabers]
Sir Christopher Lee: [chuckling] Indeed.
[burrdugg charges, and Sir Christopher Lee shocks him into unconsciousness with Sith lightning] - 1ofMany, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1Good Lord you sound just like me.
- Spoomeister, on 10/31/2009, -1/+2Security at the knighting ceremony was tight; there was the old guy with a staff telling people at the door, "YOOOOUUUU.... SHALL NOT..... PASSSSSSS!!!!!".
- Kitakaze, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1I love Ian McKellan — I kinda think he's a much better actor than Christopher Lee. And as such, I think McKellan would have done a much better job at the whole "sickly sweet" aspect of the Sauruman character. If Jackson had taken these things into account, I think he'd put McKellan in the Sauruman role, and Lee in the Gandalf one.
And then there's this: In the movie, Gandalf only expresses his anger twice: With Bilbo and the ring, and then with the Balrog "You shall not pass!" which was very impressive.
But how much more awesome would those scenes be, if Gandalf was played by Christopher Lee? I, for one, say they'd be way better. Honestly — try to imagine Christopher Lee — confronting a flaming demon Balrog of hell, "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" — are you kidding me? This would be WAY better with Christopher Lee! It'd be a thousand times better with him. - eh123, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1It seems the only people being knighted these days are celebrities. What does that say about jolly old England?
- explodingzebras, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1yeah it did put a damper on the stunt
- borez, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1Don't know why you got dugg down there, he did indeed.

What is Digg?
