- Recusant, on 03/07/2009, -3/+63American Idol? You mean 51 year old, multi-platinum Gloria Estefan...?

DO THE CONGA - inactive, on 03/07/2009, -0/+21Breaking News: Grammy Award winning singer, Gloria Estefan, found dead from mysterious boating accident
- ObeseSnake, on 03/06/2009, -4/+24Spy? Seems like the CIA wanted to hire her because of her language skills. That doesn't automatically make you a "spy for the CIA" does it?
- gijoeler, on 03/07/2009, -0/+18Wasn't she a star before American Idol?
- soogy, on 03/07/2009, -0/+18FTA: "to become an _undercover agent_ because of her language skills." I don't see how their standards are low; at the time she was approached, she was working as an interpreter for customs and spoke three languages fluently.

- edelay, on 03/07/2009, -2/+14I think they are confusing her with Paula Abdul. I'll admit that I confuse them sometimes too.
- redtaboo, on 03/07/2009, -5/+16Just a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit
- entropysteak, on 03/07/2009, -6/+16She took the midnight train going anywhere.
- MiniCooper2007, on 03/07/2009, -3/+12A singer in a smoky room
- nomadiqueMC, on 03/07/2009, -0/+9it's kinda funny the crap some 'stars' will come out with when they are fighting the inevitable battle against irrelevance...
- encrypteduser, on 03/07/2009, -0/+8I found myself wondering why this was news, so naturally I opened my browser and a quick Google search lead me to find that she is releasing a "best of" album at the end of this month -> http://www.amazon.com/Playlist-Very-Best-Gloria-Es ... and kicking off a Latin American Tour at the same time. *sigh*
- inactive, on 03/07/2009, -0/+8What makes it mysterious is no boat or body of water was involved.
- HappyScrappy, on 03/07/2009, -0/+8They probably were buoyed by their success in recruiting Chuck Barris.
- ShadowFoxxx, on 03/07/2009, -6/+14He took the midnight train going anywhere

- 0mniscient, on 03/07/2009, -1/+7Don't look now, but we're being watched.
- WraTH017, on 03/07/2009, -0/+6Probably just to stop her from singing.
- caffeinejunkie, on 03/07/2009, -0/+6She is gonna get it now....
- indiepenguins, on 03/07/2009, -2/+7For a smile they can share the night
- inactive, on 03/07/2009, -0/+4I guess she forgot what they did to Selena.
...oh crap now they're going to come after me too. - blueocean1982, on 03/07/2009, -0/+4I don't think I could find a more random story. I know that by remembering this news story there is probably something more important that I will have forgotten. However, later in my life at some equally random time, someone will say, "Did you know that Gloria Esefan was recruited to be a spy?" At which point, I acknowledge I knew that fact. No value will be added, and I will have died a little inside.
- Cannonballkid, on 03/07/2009, -0/+4The smell of wine and cheap perfume /fixed
For a smile they can share the night It goes on and on and on and on... - Slick50, on 03/07/2009, -3/+6Tatiana IS a CIA spy!
- MikeyTwit, on 03/07/2009, -1/+4I'm reading Legacy of Ashes:A History of The CIA by Tim Wiener, and considering how screwed up the CIA has been since it's inception, this really doesn't sound that far fetched.
- nlogik, on 03/07/2009, -0/+3i know you can't control yourself any longer!
- inactive, on 03/07/2009, -0/+3Ohhhh....THAT Gloria Estefan. My bad.
- ignacious, on 03/07/2009, -0/+3So easy to believe when you get all of those sources that are not just the opinion of a faded pop singer.
- D0nPedro, on 03/06/2009, -5/+7Lol. Apparently, the standards are a lot lower than you think.
- darkciti2, on 03/07/2009, -0/+2Learn Arabic and Unicode.
- inactive, on 03/07/2009, -2/+4I'd like to be recruited.
- darkciti2, on 03/07/2009, -2/+4There are many levels of "employment" in the agency.
I think "spy" is a bit sensationalist because it's a nonsensical term. - FriedTurkey, on 03/07/2009, -0/+2Way less then than the paranoid people like you think.
BTW - I know you are thinking right now I could be a CIA spy reading your thoughts. - Cmosfm, on 03/07/2009, -2/+4It goes on and on and on and on
- pennvneff, on 03/07/2009, -0/+2"Cuban-born singer Estefan, 52, said she was approached by the Central Intelligence Agency to become an undercover agent because of her language skills."
What else would you call an undercover agent other than a spy? Also, her "language skills" really should be read as can pass as a Cuban national. Undercover agent that could pass as a Cuban, hmmmm I wonder how that could be applicable for the CIA?
Her dad was a bodyguard for that thug Batista as well, it's really not surprising why someone didn't try to recruit her. - tiggerdigger, on 03/07/2009, -1/+3come on, the last one was funny, this one just sucks
- giskard88, on 03/07/2009, -0/+1how is it a national secret that the CIA would was interested years ago in cuban-americans with language skills?
- inactive, on 03/07/2009, -2/+3Strangers
- edwinjose, on 03/09/2009, -0/+1I wish somebody paid me for knowing computer languages..
- nichiplechle, on 06/20/2009, -0/+1AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
- clickwir, on 03/07/2009, -0/+1Gloria Estefan's own merits aren't enough... she has to be identified as somehow associated with American CRAP Idol? wtf?
- acklefutz, on 03/07/2009, -0/+1BOOOO! bring on the rapping granny!
- jsffive, on 03/07/2009, -0/+1OK. I'll go ahead and point out the obvious. How many of our celebrities do you think the CIA HAS recruited before they got famous? How many NOCs are there in movies, TV and Journalism?
And if there are ANY, what is their role? - bluesman3535, on 03/07/2009, -0/+1'Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" is a great movie. I'm not convinced he did the hit man stuff but being a "network lookout" seems likely, guarding against infiltration during the Cold War years.
- Astark, on 03/07/2009, -1/+2They still contact her through the radio in her fillings.
- dlan4327, on 03/07/2009, -0/+1She was one of the best dancers I've ever seen. A true stage performer.
