- Rayza, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34I thought he was on The Daily Show as himself, wasn't he?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dutJ31sIW68 - NinjaYaddaYadda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10By "finally" you mean the third or so time?
- D4r7h3v1l, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10He was also on Israeli television as himself (speaking Hebrew).
- MattyLite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7He was also on Conan as himself like a year ago . . .
- mozzep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the article said that he'd never done an interview as himself in the UK, meaning his home country. it didn't say that about the US. the poster of the article is mistaken I think, but the journalist is correct as far as I know.
- harumph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i call *****. judaism does not try to spread its laws or its beliefs. it is notoriously hard to convert to judaism, as opposed to christianity or islam where one merely needs to make a declaration. i may have issues with israel policy-wise but judaism is not imperialistic as a religion and therefore i think its customs get an extra measure of insulation from criticism. mr. baron-cohen may very well be our lenny bruce, his guise is dissimilar but his ability to cut us deeply where we thought we may have been immune is strikingly similar.
- ozid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was actually about to point out that Neil Strauss interviewed him first as himself... but I forgot he wrote for Rolling Stone. Ah well.
- joeydoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well where the hell is the rest of the interview? That's pissed me off.
So screw that, I'm not going to buy the magazine for the other half. - mozzep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I took that specific "finally" to mean "since all the hype and interviewing of borat started." not since the Ali G show started.
dunno if that's what he meant. - Sheir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Neil Strauss + Sacha Baron Cohen = Love.
- Arbus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3All superstitious behaviour like this is ***** insane, but you're not allowed to question it you anti-semite bastard. How dare you.
- surfit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3He rarely does TV interviews out of character, I've never seen him do one in the UK - so it was weird seeing him going around the US chat shows some time ago as himself.
- Modulo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3nice job picking out the kosher laws as silly, in that they are probably one of the only things in religion that actually has a rational basis, that of avoiding trichinosis, tapeworm and food poisoning. well done sir.
- friedman420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nothing wrong with religious beliefs and practices. Some people take them too far but as long as you ( or they ) respect others beliefs, nothing wrong with religion.
- MrBabyMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Poster of the article is not mistaken, the phrase "In his only interview as himself" comes straight from the article (right under the headline). Perhaps, as this is Rolling Stone, they mean only *magazine* interview as himself.
- visionoftruth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I know your afflictions and your poverty—yet you are rich! I know the slander of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.
- Volatile, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2You can't prove this magical man's non-existence any more than you can prove his existence. Sacha Baron Cohen never specifically attacked Christianity (well, there was that one scene in the movie but I don't think that's a direct attack) and I think that it's somewhat out of line to directly attack his beliefs. Just wait until you die and then you can see who was right and who was wrong. I don't believe in any specific deity, but I do think that it'd be awfully ironic if we all died and found out the Christians were right. Or the Muslims or the Jews. We'll find out in time.
- Saiing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Really? Half of Hollywood is ***** then!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1He was appearing as himself on TV before becoming famous with the Ali G show.
- greggish, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I was talking about the deception he uses in the Borat segments. In the Ali G segments he is interviewing people of celebrity, but not so in the Borat pieces. Why exactly does he think it's "Talmudically" justified (his words, not mine) to get some of these folks liquored up first and lie to them about where it will be aired? Sure, it would be harder to humiliate them by at least being honest and telling them that this may air internationally. But he would still find a substantial number of idiots to exploit.
- greggish, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I saw him interviewed as himself on Stern just after Ali G was becoming popular. He said that he tries to be "Talmudic" about how he approaches the way in which people are presented. Funny, I'm Jewish, and I don't remember from Hebrew school where in the Talmud it condones the wholesale deception and exploitation of others for fame and fortune.
- Baller1257, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Where is the John Stewart Interview?!?!? I had the video in my Fav. on Youtube and it's gone!?!?! Does anyone know where else I can get it?!?!?
- Baller1257, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0What!?!? Where is the video that was posted of the John Stewart Interview??? I'll try to find it somewhere else.
- doverpro110, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the difference being cohen is funny and kaufman was just weird
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0He was also interviewed as himself on the Howard Stern show in 2004.
- bloozehound, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1He didn't invent anythng new, everything he's done has been done before by other comedians. Andy Kaufman spent weeks in character, doing all his interviews in character. He also had a semi-fake talk show, using his real name but using a completely diff personality from his "normal" one, and had his seat and desk raised 6 feet above those of his guests.
- sauved, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2excerpt: bury this crap
- Sonic_Molson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This was on the front page earlier today...
- charlie55, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3volatile, just because a made up thing is impossible to prove incorrect, doesnt mean i need to respect it on the same level with reality. thats the whole point of the spaghetti monster. and judaism is exactly as insane as the spaghetti monster. so cohen is ridiculing americans that have stupid beliefs, while he is just as mindless and irrational as the worst of them.
remember, the god that cohen worships is a petty and terrible dude, who slaughters people by the thousands. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1http://virtualmagic.blogspot.com/2006/10/borat.html
- davidestroy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1http://digg.com/celebrity/Rolling_Stone_Sacha_Baron_Cohen_the_Real_Borat_Finally_Speaks
- Cyrusman, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Idiot. You as well as many other people think that Borat is a brand new character. He's ***** been around since the late 90's, and even earlier in england.
- charlie55, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4someone ought to get in costume and try to force him to stop eating kosher. then we could laugh at his insane backwards traditions. is his culture any better than the americans in his movie?
sure, the evangelicals and racist americans are stupid, but are they really any more supid than a grown-ass man who thinks a magic man in the sky cares if he eats shellfish or works on a certain day of the week?
if you are so stupid you think it is a good idea to keep kosher, because the magical man in the sky is watching, don't come preaching to me about how there are dumbasses in america. you are the one who is blindly bowing down to the loony things you were born into. - Yeago, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Uhm... what about the Jon Stewart appearance, dumbasses?
- JJBagoose, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3@Joeydoo
Yea Seriously, WHy pay for anything these days.
