- redfan, on 02/11/2009, -3/+38You know, I've actually never done pot (really) and even I can't stand the media sensationalism over it. People and their fake outrage over a nominal "drug" when there are so many real problems in this world.
Rick Steves is awesome. Love his books and podcasts. If anyone's played their part in turning me on to exploring the world, it's him. - AmyVernon, on 02/11/2009, -2/+35Suddenly, his travelogues make so much more sense.
- ajde, on 02/11/2009, -3/+28I love Rick Steves. He looks like this totally dorky yuppie baby boomer, but he's actually a really cool guy who just loves to travel the world and supports marijuana reform even in places like Seattle's annual Hempfest, which is a huge festival where all kinds of lovers of hemp & ganja unite and the cops go easy on everybody for the day.
- busdrivermike, on 02/11/2009, -3/+21Putting people into the court system for MJ use shows how far our country has moved away from the principles this country was founded on. Do you honestly believe the geniuses behind the Declaration of Independence, which was written on hemp, did not know about smoking it?
Why do you think they were always on the hunt for better seeds? - tbhurst, on 02/11/2009, -3/+18Go get 'em, Rick. I guess all those swings through Amsterdam for Rick Steeves' Europe are finally paying off.
- pelican2164, on 02/11/2009, -4/+19Hi I'm Rick Steves and I'm in Amsterdam, again.
- ilmmad, on 02/11/2009, -3/+17Anyone who has taken a German class can testify to Rick Steves' greatness.
- CivicTV, on 08/14/2009, -3/+17Go Washington! Now . . . who is next?
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -4/+15Rick Steves and Anthony Bourdain should do a show in Amsterdam
- Hortinstein, on 02/11/2009, -2/+12rick steves and his family are good friends of my parents and mine...they are great people, and it's good to see Digg thinks so too. Ill make sure his son passes him the news he frontpaged Digg.
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -5/+14I think Digg has more marijuana stories than High Times.
I just want to go on the record and say that if you still think marijuana users deserve prison time, then you are totally backwards. There is no possible justification for pot smokers being treated as criminals. Anyone who supports the "War on Drugs" is an enemy of freedom, and there is no amount of hyperbole in the world that will ever convince even half of the world's population that it's a good idea.
To simplify: If you believe that drug users should do time in prison, then you should die. Nobody needs you, and you ***** things up way more than you help. Go away.
Thanks. - Frankyfan3, on 02/11/2009, -3/+12“The greatest service which can be rendered any country is to add a useful plant to its culture. “ Thomas Jefferson
"An acre of the best ground for hemp, is to be selected and sewn in hemp and be kept for a permanent hemp patch." - Thomas Jefferson's Garden book 1849
Considering the sails of the ships they sailed during the revolution and the ropes that held them to their masts were made out of cannabis hemp, and that the constitution was drafted on hemp fiber papers they would probably scratch their heads with puzzlement at the laws enacted to criminalize it's cultivation.
Also, there is historical evidence that George Washington instructed his slaves to separate the male and female cannabis hemp plants before pollination.
That is a fact.
Anyone who is familiar with cannabis hemp cultivation knows that this is not a technique which has to do with the fiber quality of the plant, but will affect (and increase) it's medicinal properties.
Most people grew their own pharmacy's back then, like TJ's poppie's, so it's not really that incredible to infer that George Washington probably used cannabis medicinally.
(I mean, have you heard about his dental issues? Guy must have been in at least a little bit of constant discomfort.) - fuse13, on 02/11/2009, -2/+11you despise a whole demographic?
most people dont brag about being dim and bigoted. - VaporBro, on 02/11/2009, -3/+10“Nobody can fire me, basically,” he said amidst a roar of laughter.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Rick Steves during a free screening of Rick Steves' Iran. What a great guy! I only wish more people would stand up and use their voice for Marijuana Legalization. He is a very educated, well-spoken, and a "kine" individual.
Rick Steves: The Hiking Crew would like to smoke a joint with you. Thank you for being a strong voice in the fight towards freedom! - cdtoad, on 02/11/2009, -2/+9This explains what he's got in his travel backpack.
- jsauter, on 02/11/2009, -2/+9Rick Steves is currently on the advisory board of NORML, so I think he probably has quite a lot to say about Phelps and marijuana.
- Fib0112, on 02/11/2009, -4/+11@waluum: Quick question for you: do you, in your daily life, use a)caffeine, b)nicotine, c)alcohol or d)sugar. Just curious.
- Rikkochet, on 02/11/2009, -2/+8The same thing Einstein had to do with philosophy and Dr. Phil has to do with psychology: not much. They're just popular and people wanted to hear what they had to say about it.
- Rikkochet, on 02/11/2009, -1/+7and one of them is PLURAL! It's like walking around every day with an entourage!
- immatellyouwhat, on 02/11/2009, -2/+7He has 2 first names! Hahahaha!
- depro9, on 02/11/2009, -4/+9Rick Steves is not owned, thus he can speak his mind with zero repercussions. Only those who are owned must agree to follow the lies.
- Fabbyfubz, on 02/11/2009, -3/+8Oh, Rick Steves... Brings back some good memories of "video day" in Social Studies class
- Trigonometron, on 02/11/2009, -3/+8And if you pledge at the $300 level, we will throw in an oz of dope along with your NPR mug and copy of "Europe Through the Back Door". Call now!
- ashfish, on 02/11/2009, -0/+4While I agree with everything you've said I, personally, cannot drive stoned. It just doesn't work for me, I get way too distracted and because of that I don't feel that its safe for me to drive while high.
- KimmyGibbler, on 02/11/2009, -2/+5You had me until the last sentence. Buried
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -3/+6Depending on what stories you read and who you believe, the US Government™ has been making money off the drug trade since the beginning.
- craiginct, on 02/12/2009, -0/+3Now I understand why he flies in and out of Amsterdam
- itsJALbert, on 02/11/2009, -3/+6I've always wanted a "I'm Rick Steves, Bitch!" shirt. The intersection of the Venn Diagram of who would get it would be quite small, I think.
- kev0476, on 02/11/2009, -2/+4Not Utah, there is a bill here to criminalize salvia... Going to be a long time.
- Frankyfan3, on 02/11/2009, -4/+6You got it. We need full legalization and regulation.
- WhammX, on 02/11/2009, -6/+8Even if weed is taxed 100% once it becomes legal it will still be 10 times cheaper than what people pay for in shady alleys.
....For a plant!
Today near my apartment complex I smelled bomb Kush and would have loved to been baked today.
It's a plant and no real harm is done. In fact, people become better more cautious drivers. - inactive, on 02/11/2009, -3/+5Old school American: someone who has the courage of his convictions despite holding unpopular beliefs.
Rick Steves believes in the Old version of American Liberty; our lives are our own. Go Rick! - yadayada6, on 02/11/2009, -3/+5If the Federal Government says selling marijuana is illegal, even if states like California make it legal. Then isn't the Federal Government in violation of it's own set of laws if it accepts the tax revenues from the businesses (and there are a lot of them in San Francisco), that openly sell medical marijuana???? Hmmmmm....
And BTW, I bet the tax revenues from those sales of marijuana in the State of California are the ONLY thing saving it's ass from a big fat bankruptcy (we're talking millions in revenue here). - BenderFlexo, on 02/11/2009, -3/+5I'm sure you have no problem tossing back a couple of toxic brewskies though
- BT1000101, on 02/15/2009, -0/+2I guess I am the last person who did not know Rick is a ***** pothead!!
- petebot, on 02/11/2009, -1/+2I think threadless lets you make your own shirts...
- milkmage, on 02/11/2009, -3/+4California MUST release 10k prisoners:
http://digg.com/politics/California_Must_Release_1 ...
i'll bet 9500 of them are in there for pot related offenses. - Sevfan, on 02/16/2009, -0/+1I ***** love Bob Ross, and P. Allen Smith reminds me of a homosexual vampire
- walrusonion, on 02/11/2009, -3/+4i watch rick steves everyday at 1 am on PBS Create
- NCg8r, on 02/11/2009, -3/+4His show on Iran was very informative and opened my eyes to the fact that their people are not much different from ours... and I watched it baked.
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -2/+3You're like a car that doesn't have tires.
- walrusonion, on 02/12/2009, -1/+2yeah P. Allen Smith is so ***** gay, but Bob ross is the *****
- benitojuarez, on 02/11/2009, -3/+4thought the site was pwnlocalnews.
- waluum, on 02/11/2009, -1/+2I drink caffeinated drinks on occasion, and eat sugar, but they are stimulants. They do not alter my perception.
- petebot, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1is he really? That is crazy.
- BenderFlexo, on 02/11/2009, -1/+2First state to make it illegal (by state law). Presence of cannabis metabolites in your system can send you to jail for drugged driving. $1,000 fine for under an ounce. Another $1,000 for paraphernalia. Any conviction and your DL is suspended for 6 months... And just across the border in Colorado it's a civil offense for each, $100 ticket that you can pay by mail.
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -2/+3Dear Congress, etc old *****
Hello, we are the general population United States of America. We like pot. We are not just "those stupid lazy bastard children", we are your coworkers, your bosses, your gold medalists, your friends, your family, your children. We are your painters, writers, programmers, drivers, doctors, lawyers, president. We are free-thinkers, positive members of society who work day in and day out, roll models, atheists, CEOs, financial advisers, construction workers. We build your cars, your homes, your neighborhoods, your offices, your paycheck.
We are not the lazy, immature, ignorant, uninformed, lifeless sheep you label us. We are not the over zealous bible thumping, child spoiling, over sensitive, finding hidden messages in records and Disney movie freaks that you listen to and base your decisions off of.
We are America. We like pot. - ravedigger, on 02/11/2009, -3/+4I think it would be amazing if this incident with Michael Phelps brought about the drug reform we've been waiting for.
- Bilabrin, on 02/11/2009, -2/+3Okay, but what it sounds lik you are saying is that you dislike Rick Steves because of his specific age. I can't get down with that.
