- fober, on 10/11/2007, -3/+84I'm delighted we're bringing "bonkers" back into regular usage.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+57Wow, this is a great XMple of why censorship is such a SIRIUS problem.
- Falldog, on 10/11/2007, -4/+53Non O&A fan subscribers should use this opportunity to get some free service.
- joebooty, on 10/11/2007, -1/+49"According to a Digg member"
I can think of no credentials that carry as little weight as these... - lpmiller, on 10/11/2007, -9/+45And yet, we don't do dick about the war, or the environment, or darfur, or pretty much anything. But screw with some morning DJ's or censor an HDDVD key, and righteousness prevails!
We are such monkeys. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -12/+44That's it smash something you paid for because you are mad at the company providing service to it. Throw money out the window! That will show them!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+32Serves them right, too.
- afx1, on 10/11/2007, -4/+26me smash!!!!!!
- SilleeString, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14I honestly hadn't thought of this before reading this comment. What sucks is this probably looks sarcastic but it's not. It really is just a great point.
So sad and yet true. - rodimusminor, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Wouldn't it be deliciously ironic if by suspending O&A because XM were worried about the merger, they lost so many subscribers than it cost XM the merger?
- glock22ownr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Damn I wish I had an XM account just so I could cancel it. Hell I may go sign up just so I can cancel it.
- relic2279, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11I canceled mine today and got sirrus
- bitsculptor, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10RAAAAMONE!!!! My xm receiver is useless now.
FRRRRRRRUNKISS!!! - mourne, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10At the point of smashing it, I think it's about the principal, not the money.
- sparql, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8There is not a standard ratings system like FM has, but XM does keep track of what their listeners, listen to.
I don't have it in writing, but Eric Logan, EVP of Programming was recently on their show and told them they have the highest rated show on XM and "The Virus" is the highest rated channel. O&A had a hard time believing him, but he assured them he was being truthful.
Granted he could have been blowing smoke, and since XM doesn't have to publish listener information, it's all hear-say. - sparql, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6The funny thing is, their show is a very acquired taste. The first time I listened to them, I understood what people like about them, but thought it wasn't for me. Upon a friend bugging me to give them another shot, I found I really, really liked the show. It was just very different from what I was used to listening to.
And I don't care what anyone thinks, some of the best comedians around are very active on their show. - threemagic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7The terrestrial radio show has terrible ratings because it was killed by David Lee Roth. Give them time..
- cwilson, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7I agree with sparql on this one. The 100 Grand prank was great! More importantly, what harm did it do? It annoyed the "winner" for a day. How offensive!
- Frozo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5XM's decision had nothing to do with the FCC, since it's a private company and the government can't regulate what they say (as long as it's legal). This was strictly XMs decision to calm the "angry hordes", yes. But not the FCC.
- Cockdiesel, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8sterns rating on fm = zero point zero
go look on the ratings site .. they were not 0 - brstilson, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Yet another example of the flawed mentality too many executives possess. What is it with this trend in thinking that only shareholders, not customers, affect your bottom line? Too many corporations continually screw their customers to make their investors happy, only to find out later that WHOOPS, turns out a business DOES need customers after all!
- Anarchyx2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Answer this question...
On XM RAW, there is a show where they are basically racist against non-blacks, and use the "N" word constantly. Non-blacks call in and get belittled, whereas blacks call in and are treated like royalty that are still victims of oppresion.
Is this not just as bad if not WORSE than what O&A did/said?? Yet XM doesn't drop the XM RAW show?
I even submitted a comment on the XM site, listing a complaint about the show and it's content, and never received a response. - threemagic, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6I love how Stern talked about this incident as if O&A were not even on his radar.. like he knew nothing of them.. like they weren't enemies.
YET, any O&A threads always seems to be some new Stern regurgitation...
Face it Stern.. you're nothing more than nostalgia now. - Sambone67, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Oh man, that was awful...
dugg up
damn you cthellis - omgbanana, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I don't believe those of you who are bashing Opie and Anthony have a clear understanding of what working in the radio business is like. Sure they're indecent, rude, and cruel, but do you all really want yet another Clear Channel clone that's programmed by a computer with a "DJ" who prerecords breaks during the commercials?
I love doing radio, but I've pretty much given up on it. There aren't many places left that do not suck. Radio is bound to be snuffed out by the Internet if the suits in the business insist on pushing it down this path. - Weenis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Well that was dumb. In a few months they'll be the same company. You basically canceled and then resubscribed to the same company.
- domeyerj, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5You assume the people breaking their receivers would actually want to go back if they put a show back on the radio. I would guess that even if they were given the chance to have a free replacement and 3 months of service they would refuse, because it's about the principle, not the service.
- threemagic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4The war, environment, and such don't directly hurt us yet... we scream about it. We post our dissatisfactions. But unlike retail atmospheres like the HD-DVD and XM we can't do much to alter what the government wants to do even though it's a government of the people.
- DanY, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Thats one to many Rs in FRRRRRRUNKISS
- sparql, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6I'll agree with you that the April Fool's prank was on the mean side.
The 100 Grand prank is very, very funny. Especially if you've ever heard the audio.
And the St. Pats deal is offensive to some people, mostly those who are religious.
That's the thing with comedy, what you find funny can be very different from someone else. - hipnerd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Two of them were bits that caused them to get fired from their previous two jobs. It's not like their show became radically different each time they were fired and moved to a different station.
- joemc72, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4To use an old MMO saying...
"Can I have your stuff?" - CaptMonkey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3You failed to mention that all of these bits were from before they ever came to XM.
- saynine, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7I did something like this. I smashed my XM receiver when I heard those morons got a show.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2 i will watch fox news for censored and sanized data.
of course i have canceled my cable too so i guess fox news no longer exists for either. - tatical, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The Daily News (NY news paper) is ***** up, it reported that they were joking about rape. The guest didn't say anything about "raping" anyone, just ***** them.
- KMartSheriff, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I miss the cartoon.
- ShArKSe7eN, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Gee, O&A get tossed off the air for something that someone else was saying/doing on their show. Why does this feel like deja vu all over again?
O&A should just give the finger to XM & start podcasting their show. - Bigsby, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2People are buying XM radios just to smash them? Oh man, this counter productive. No one realized they were actually supporting XM when they did this?
- akatherder, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Smashing the receivers makes sense if you bought it a while ago and can no longer return it to the store. It's a statement that you will never be getting XM again.
Personally I would try to sell it on Ebay. - Conwaysb0718, on 10/11/2007, -5/+7What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
- MadOgre, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I was in Radio Shack just yesterday looking at XM and Sirius with the intent to purchase. After talk about the O&A suspension and Stern and what not... I decided on taking a pass at sat-radio.
HD Radio is looking more promising. - empeethree, on 10/11/2007, -9/+11worked when it was churches vs heavy metal. oh wait...
- Weenis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It's surprises me that people would be more offended by hearing a mentally ill homeless man on the radio than by the fact there are mentally ill living on the streets in NYC. That apparently is fine, as long as we don't have to hear them.
- sgglynn, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4We're not subscribing to darfur, nor are we trying to pirate the environment.
- maxx77, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The "free service" stuff is a lie. I called to cancel last night. I was never once offered anything for free. The woman took my information, told me I'd be credited for a month since I'd already paid in adavance, and then put me on hold. I was on hold for at least 15 minutes, listening to their hold music, which is one of the XM jazz stations. After about three songs, everything went quiet. I don't know if I was disconnected, but I accidentally hung my cell phone up when I tried to check. Anyway, flash forward to today. My car radio is still activated. I'm going to try to cancel again tonight, but I have no hopes that I'll be offered any free service this time either.
- KingGoonie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2sparq... i have the demented world cd that 100grand is on.. i coudlnt find it funny because of how distraught the man was when he found out it was a joke. It wasnt funny, it was mean.
- cwilson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I cancelled a few months ago. It wasn't that I didn't like the service but I just wasn't using it anymore. When I told the CS rep on the phone that I was leaving for that reason, he offered me a discounted rate. I'm not sure why you didn't get offered anything. Usually something like that is offered by any company when you try to cancel.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -8/+9i've said it before... i'll say it again...
i wouldn't piss on opie and anthony if they wuz on fire. - bsaitz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1O&A suck, these people need to get a clue, not a free subscription
