It's certainly a question of whether or not this will make ***** difference to XM (or whatever merged conglomeration may be upcoming), but certainly it also creates a public relations headache as well, and brings "freedom of speech" arguments--at least in regards to expressly warned "EXPLICIT CONTENT!" channels on a subscribed-to-specifically-so-we-can-get-content-like-this service--to the fore.

I don't have it in writing, but Eric Logan, EVP of Programming was recently on their show and told them they have the highest rated show on XM and "The Virus" is the highest rated channel. O&A had a hard time believing him, but he assured them he was being truthful.
Granted he could have been blowing smoke, and since XM doesn't have to publish listener information, it's all hear-say. - mourne, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2I never found them entertaining. But who am I. Upon a friend bugging me to give them another shot, I found I really, really liked the show. It was just very different from what I was used to listening to.

The David Lee Roth factor could be used for their first 3 months, maybe.. MAYBE their first 6 months. Not now. NOT AT ALL. Since it wasn't David Lee that destroyed the ratings to begin with, but Stern leaving. And at least in NY when they announced they were replacing Roth it got alot of press, etc... so its not like people didn't know they were there from day one.
If O*A took over first right after Stern, their ratings would not have been much higher then David Lee's
Face it, O&A used to be funny, they just arent anymore. Thats the problem.

Situations such as the Bush's war in Iraq, it has been demonstrated that there is little we can do about regardless of what we want. Americans ousted the GOP rubber-stamp congress and senate in a referendum against Bush. We finally got the Baker-Hamilton Commission. Almost to every recommendation, Bush did the EXACT OPPOSITE of the bi-partisan commissions recommendations. Its almost as if Bush did it just to spite the people. Hell, now if you speak out too vocally, you are considered potential "terrorist" threat and thanks to Bush's suspension of Hebus Corpus, can be imprisoned and tortured without any due process.

- hipnerd, on 10/11/2007, -11/+9What is lost in this debate on the hot-button topic of censorship is the fact that Opie & Anthony are a couple of no-talent ass clowns who far exceed the boundaries of good taste on a regular basis. They have the legal right to say whatever they want, but if the public, their advertisers or their bosses turn on them because they acted like dicks, that's their right. XM is not obligated to broadcast material they think it in poor taste.
Let's review a few of their finer moments:
* On April Fools' Day, they broadcast a fake report that the mayor of Boston had been killed in a car wreck. They continued perpetrating the "joke" even after the mayor's distraught daughter called in to confirm it was true.
* They announced a contest where the 107th caller would win "100 Grand." They played it up all morning. When they opened the phone lines, they told the 107th caller he had actually only won a "100 Grand" candy bar.
* They encouraged a couple to have sex in St. Patrick's Cathedral while on the air.
These aren't clever. They aren't funny. They are juvenile, offensive and cruel. If the government was trying to pass a law to ban this type of speech, I would be protesting in a heartbeat. But if XM wants to fire them for being unfunny pricks, to damn bad. If you piss off your boss, you get fired. I called to cancel last night. I was never once offered anything for free. The woman took my information, told me I'd be credited for a month since I'd already paid in adavance, and then put me on hold. I was on hold for at least 15 minutes, listening to their hold music, which is one of the XM jazz stations. After about three songs, everything went quiet. I don't know if I was disconnected, but I accidentally hung my cell phone up when I tried to check. Anyway, flash forward to today. My car radio is still activated. I'm going to try to cancel again tonight, but I have no hopes that I'll be offered any free service this time either.

When I told the CS rep on the phone that I was leaving for that reason, he offered me a discounted rate. I'm not sure why you didn't get offered anything. Usually something like that is offered by any company when you try to cancel.

The receiver was in a box, but it was free so I figured what the hell. Six months later I called back and they offered me 3 free plus 50% for a good while.
I was tired of calling so I said no, they then asked if I knew of anyone I wanted to give my receiver to, I said no. They then asked if I could sell the receiver, blah, blah, blah...It was like canceling AOL back in the day.
And lastly, if O&A fans are pissed the show was suspended, more power to them...They going to buy new receivers when the show comes back on 'better than ever' after XM apologizes? O&A didn't get suspended by XM mgmt...They were suspended by XM marketing to cause controversy, not because of it. Either that or they're clearing the way for Stern in the merger.

XM Satellite Radio is reporting that all retailers have notified them that all XM radios have sold out. It appears that people are buying radios just to smash them. It also appears that there has been a 100% surge in subscription. It appears that thousands are subscribing to XM radio service just call a few hours later and cancel. It is being reported that due to this huge surge in radio hardware sales XM is considering suspending other shows for 30 days.
