Life IS too short. But if your definition of having fun of is to get piss and pass out drunk, dope up on blow, spit out racial/homophobic slurs, shamelessly expose yourself, and be a walking an STD all while disrespecting your family name, then more power to you.
I guess I have too much respect for friends, family, and more importantly myself. - mash8591, on 10/12/2007, -41/+11@AWeeBitInsane
STFU callin me a fat nerd. - Puffball, on 10/12/2007, -4/+62You don't have to be a "fat nerd" to know that DWIs are pretty serious -- and the fact that she puts other people's lives in danger over and over just for this "fun" (that fat nerds can't achieve apparently) makes her look like a reckless *****. And seriously, she's one of the most gross, white trash, celebrities -- if she was drunk and sprawled out on my couch, I would force her to leave.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -7/+28AWeeBitInsane is right. If only all of us could have rich parents, and spoil us. She's a role-model to look up to. I'd rather go out partying without fearing any consequences, than have...what do you call them? a brain?
Everyone, go follow in the footsteps of Paris! Grab a few drinks, go out driving, and hope you don't kill yourself in the process. - jgzman, on 10/12/2007, -10/+30I consider DUI to be a capitol crime, myself. Driving is dangerous enough when you are in full control of yourself; as everyone knows (or should know) you can get killed on the highway doing everything right, if the guy in front of you does enough things wrong. If you are drunk, (or high, or seriously sleep deprived) than you are clearly not doing everything right, and you could be the cause of another person's death.
If causing the death of other people is your idea of 'just having fun and enjoying life' than I say to hell with that. - laterallateral, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Hey Paris,

- thescimitar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35You gotta figure that for every time she's been caught drunk, there must be at least three or four times when she was driving drunk and DIDN'T get caught.
She should go to prison (or a hardcore, freedom-less treatment facility) for a long, long time. Here's a quote from msnbc.com for those of you keeping score at home....
"As a city prosecutor said during closing arguments that Hilton deserved jail time, Hilton’s mother, Kathy, laughed. When the judge ruled, Kathy Hilton, then blurted out: “May I have your autograph?”"
(According to KTLA - "During the hearing, Kathy Hilton laughed each time someone mentioned the possibility of her daughter being sent to jail -- until she was sentenced.")
When a reporter asked what she thought of the judge’s decision, a visibly angry Kathy Hilton responded: “What do you think? This is pathetic and disgusting, a waste of taxpayer money with all this nonsense. This is a joke.”
--------
Paris couldn't even be bothered to show up on time: "Hilton had arrived at the Metropolitan Courthouse 10 minutes late" and doesn't even bother to talk with her own lawyers: "Also called to the stand was Hilton’s spokesman, Elliot Mintz. Hilton and her attorneys characterized Mintz as a liaison between Hilton and her lawyers."
It is because of the antics of Paris and family that I make an effort to avoid staying at any hotel in the Hilton chain: Hilton, Hampton Inn, DoubleTree, Embassy Suites and strongly encourage everybody else to refrain from sending more money to the family that ~laughs~ in open court at the mere notion of being held accountable for their actions.

- ussoldier, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3The thread demonstrates how juries, or judging by public consensus, doesn''t work. People are so ready to burn someone just because they don't like them, NOT based on any evidence whatsoever. There is not even the first discussion as to whethere there is any evidence if she violated her parole, only comments of the nature, burn, burn, burn her... because we don't like her.
What I've learned is the fine line that seperates anyone from prison is nothing more than how well you happen to be liked in any given moment or not, which changes with your circumstances. Being accused of a crime puts you in a negative light, and that's one strike against you for people who have never met you before. And then the state commences to run a slander game upon you, and most people and poor lawyers automatically adopt a defensive attitude, which is a losing fight. As they say, you can never lose a football game by playing defense only.
If you are ever accused of a crime, my best advice to anyone is to go totally on the offensive. Attact the state full force with evidence of its own long list of crimes against humanity... and you don't have to dig very far. You show the jury how criminal the government, its police force, and its military are, and they will think "we're definatly looking at the wrong guy here. we need to be looking at these other bastards."
I wonder how all of you vigilanty witchburning diggers who are so ready to set the torch to someone would fair under the knife yourself if you were accused of a crime. I dare say you will hire a stock lawyer, who will adopt the stock defensive attitude; you will dress up in your Sunday best, show up in court dressed like a corpse because you haven't worn a suit in ages, and stutter and mumble and look like a deer in headlights because you've never been put on the spot and had to speak in public before, which is intimidating as hell, especially if you are the one under the knife. And you know what, the prosecutor will run their slander game on you, the jury will do their citizens duty and feel good about it and rubberstamp you guilty, and then the judge will fry you with a sentence that makes all sense of proportion disintegrate like flour in the air.
I've seen a lot of this on Digg, and quite frankly, my respect for geeks has plummeted to zero. Geeks are no more intelligent outside their limited sphere of expertese, than say, the white trash across my street, who are very talented at breaking things and throwing trash everywhere. You may be able to reformat and partition a drive, install Ubuntu on it and Beryl, but when it comes to actually thinking for yourselves... you need to put away reading the endless dribble that takes place on Digg, and read a book. Star with Orwell's "1984", or Michael Parenti's "Lockdown America" or "The Soft Cage", Joe Dyers "The Perpetual Prisoner Macine", or even Carl Sagan's book "The Demon Haunted World".- Schrodinger, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Good read.
- msbabc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haha... SHE'S BEEN CONVICTED. The jury is overseen by a judge who can direct the jury to find a certain sentence. Plus, what more evidence do you need than this:
1. She WAS definitely on 3 years probation for a previous DUI.
2. She WAS stopped TWICE driving whilst disqualified
3. She HAD a piece of paper SIGNED BY HER that confirmed that her license was suspended
4. She WAS driving without headlights when headlights were required - something that I think should come under reckless driving
This isn't some witch-hunt ffs, this is some pathetic whore who has time and again shown that she has no respect for other people or society generally.
Her mum should count herself lucky not to have been held in contempt.
As David Cross once said, "[The Simple Life] glorifies these two rich, giggling *****, who have no respect for anybody - just vile people, awful human beings. Who get away with everything cos they're rich. And the blonde one will blow you apparently.."
- logicalnoise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6She'll do fine in prison. Hell she'll even get a nick name "lazy eye paris"
- bstolzberg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I think she should go to jail. What more evidence do you need than a signed document stating she won't drive again.. and then she get's caught driving with a blood alcohol level higher than the legal limit.
Treat her like everyone else. PRISON, BITCH!!!- keraneuology, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The judge should have nailed her for perjury. And the mother for contempt.

Hell George Bush only had to pay a fine, and 25 years ago you would not go to jail for this, however millions of Americans are now hostage to a systems, because they drove drunk.- jgzman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11And I'm OK with this. Anyone who decides to drive a car while drunk is endangering the life of everyone near them. If I were given my way, I would issue drunk drivers 40 lashes for the first offense, and hang them for the second offense.
And don't tell me "drunk people don't have the judgment to tell if they're too drunk to drive" - *****.
A) if they don't have that much judgment, they don't have the judgment to drive, either
B) nobody held them down and poured beer into them. If you choose to consume a chemical that you know will kill your reflexes, judgment and coordination, than you must accept responsibility for what you do in that condition. - msbabc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Did GWB (arsehole as he is anyway), get caught driving whilst disqualified TWICE? Anyway, it's a sign of progress that people now get punished more heavily for DUIs, and that she wasn't able to use her money to buy her way out of this.

- yakk00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This bitch is such a waste of space and air I don't even know where to begin...Jail time would be a good start.
- diggermike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If this was any of us here on Digg we would be in jail already. Paris will get off (saw the movie doesn't take much work) with community service and possibly a longer probation time. I am tired of Celebrities getting off of the crimes they commit by running to rehab or doing community service, yet Joe Average has to do the jail time and possibly lose their job in the process. To bad we are powerless to stop this double standard because even the politicians that can change this get the celebrity treatment.
- Stopher, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1That's hot!
- airquotes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I was saying "thats hot" when I was 16, before anyone ever heard of Paris (i'm 30 now). I hate when she claims that she coined that phrase, I actually got it from a porno.
- Chillywilly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2celebrities don't goto jail... she will probably get community service and a fine.... or forced to do another reality show on fox...which is kinda like going to jail.... ;)
edit...damn diggermike beat me to it... - EclipseGSX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow, a whole $1,500 fine? Ouch. They need to start making it hurt as badly for rich celebrities as it does for others. Perhaps they could start scaling fines like in Finland.

- TheToecutter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You guys are dreaming if you think she's going to spend even a minute in jail.
- genetic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3can't this disease call a cab?
1. get a dui.
2. get 36 months probation.
3. get caught driving while on probation*2
anyone else breaking probation twice would get some time in jail. so the next logical step
4. actual jail time- Wizeone78, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Yep actual jail time. I really didn't think it would happen to her, but it did. Suck ***** to her, and good on the justice system for a change with Celeb's. It just has to keep up and maybee people with money will think in future.
That's all...

- dorkino, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Won't happen. The Hiltons have too much money, power, and influence. Despite what we want to believe, there really are people who are above the law.
- opiophile, on 10/12/2007, -26/+2This girl deserves to go free. She's done more good for this country, and humanity (in terms of charity, etc) than all of you combined. God bless this poor woman.
Jesus was persecuted too.- ippersiel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Did Jesus try to kill his fellow man drunk on wine while riding his mule?
- wiirdo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3WTF?
- moofer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2You're higher than she is.
- wonkavsn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yeah I wouldn't compare Paris Hilton to Jesus
- arbiterxero, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2I would compare them, they're both full of *****...
- Dragon88, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3The diggs on this article are currently 666. Coincidence? You decide.
- faskill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Hmmm, I see a person that broke the law... she pleads no lo contendere, err, no contest which is the same as a guilty plea without the person admitting guilt. She was sentenced, instructed to obey all laws and put on probation. She violated probation. What happens to people when they violate probation? When they've commited their second offense? She already used her get out of jail free card when she was originally granted probation and court costs, now she has escalated the situation and should be jailed or receive whatever the consequences may be for breaking the law.
- killerofkiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2and she should loose her license for 5 years
that's how it is in Fl
second offense, jail time + 5 years no license - dorkino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I did the same thing - plead no contest, got probation, and violated the probation later. Just got some more community service work is all. The probation officer was cool about it.
- harrier666, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@dorkino, you should have hung. Please stay off the ***** streets when you are drunk... and please for the love of god, don't breed.
- Wizeone78, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0A total lodgerable explination of the events that will now haunt Paris for life...
- killerofkiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2and she should loose her license for 5 years
- Blade2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1She won't do a minute in jail. Everyone knows the rich get off.
