- DrZolygon, on 10/12/2007, -10/+164she looks fine without makeup. i dont see this really proving anything
- bsmeteronhigh, on 10/12/2007, -15/+67She was stunning with and without makeup. Her makeup enhanced her beauty.
- shadus, on 10/12/2007, -9/+57The biggest differences between those pics isn't between the makeup and non-makeup, it's between the camera qualities. The non-professional pics are tremendously lower quality and grainy, of course she doesn't look as good. Take a pic on your camera phone and then take a pic with a 6mp camera. Compare. (Unless you're really ugly the 6mp camera will look ALOT better.)
Thank you captain obvious! - nerditup, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2the footprints of the sand, are the power of the water

- keef06, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6sorry for that my last comment digg is screwing up my links the last link was:

(copy n paste it, don't click) - arcooke, on 10/12/2007, -7/+40Lots of good mirrors here... am I the only one that thinks she looks better _without_ makeup? Maybe it's just me, but I'm a sucker for the natural look. Not a big fan of makeup, personally.
- freehunter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Really, the professional picture is more about airbrushing than makeup.
- Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I think she looks good without makeup too. The problem with some of these is one that I laugh at in almost ALL before/after pictures. The before picture is always a crappy photo with horrible lighting and in this case film grain, while the after was done with a professional photographer with his own lighting setup and a good camera.
- airmann90, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10I'd hit em both...
- noots, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5i guess the reality is her death added hugely to her appeal, no-one ever got to see her get old and wrinkly, giving a sort of everlasting beauty type *****.
bottom left pic is the hottest. - InMSWeAntitrust, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Fairly good idea:Making a comparison of a well known persona with and without their makeup to stress the importance of using it.
Bad idea:Hosting it on a website that's mostly pictures, and has an annoying pick background.
Worst idea:getting on Digg with said website. - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2She looks fine with or without make-up. However, take a look at Pamela Anderson without make-up. It's not a pretty sight.
http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/6760/musescelebspamuh6.jpg - dissident, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I prefer the "innocent" look to the "sultry" or "naughty" look, thus I like her without the makeup much more.
- mwosh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Photographer totally shopped those... wait....umm.....
- Rizmaster, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1@ dissident
In other words, you're repressed, and would rather find an uglier chick you don't feel uncomfortable around than a gorgeous one who may have had more sex than you.
Someone needs to grow a pair. - inv1c7u5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i kinda like her natural look more, especially the last pic, makes her look a lot more down to earth... but i guess that's just something i like about women personally
- bofhcabbit, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44I don't think it was really intended to be the kind of article that says 'OMG LOOK HOW BAD THEY LOOK WITH NO MAKEUP'. I think they were trying to show hos much of the 'iconic' Marilyn look was makeup. Which is true.
She's still pretty, even without the makeup. It's just a much different look.- caketank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, a lot of people seem to be missing the point. Makeup is clearly as integral to "Marilyn Monroe" as it is to Ronald McDonald.
It's interesting to see how different she looks in all of the non-made-up photos are, and how consistent her image is in the made-up ones. It's like looking at a real person versus a character, which I suppose is exactly what it is. - Dolphtesla, on 10/21/2007, -2/+2Man, that chick is FAT! You are all chubby chasers!
- swordedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Jamie Lee Curtis once did a "what a 40 something looks like" photo series. It was rather amazing the amount of change that took place. Her purpose was to show how fake what you see on the screen is.
There is also a transformation floating on the web somewhere that shows a model getting made up and turned into a billboard. If the model was standing in front of you and the billboard was in your line of sight, you'd never recognize her.
- caketank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, a lot of people seem to be missing the point. Makeup is clearly as integral to "Marilyn Monroe" as it is to Ronald McDonald.
- BigEazy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Kind of stupid that they use a painting in the first "after" picture
- GawtMilk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hand-colored photo. Not a painting.
- qasabah, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3In the immortal words of Lemmy.
"It's not so much looks as it is making them laugh. Chicks don't care about handsome in the final analysis. It's because they take the makeup off every day, and they know how deep handsome is." - hadiz, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7Yeah, 90% of A-list Hollywood actress' look just as scary if not even more so without their makeup.
- userjan1, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3plus, this was on reddit a day or two ago

- dojonz, on 10/12/2007, -19/+4http://www.duggmirror.com
- arcooke, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10Next time, test your link before you post it. Quit wasting our time.
- Ender008, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8I'M SICK of people not checking duggmirror to see if it actually works first...
- arcooke, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1You and me both, man.
- rompom7, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12I'm sick of people bitching about it. Firstly, it will eventually grab it. And secondly, does it really hurt? I mean someone is always going to post a link to duggmirror even when it doesn't work. Get used to it. Duggmirror has links to 3 other caches, so its better than nothing.
There is no reason why you should care if someone posts a link to duggmirror, because chances are YOU'RE going to try duggmirror to see if it works anyway, so why not just have a link there? Quit your crying, it doesn't hurt anyone, if anything it helps to know that the mirror is down, so you don't have to type it in yourself.
The thing I am even more sick of is duggmirror not getting the pages fast enough. Duggmirror used to work great, now I don't think it has worked for me when I've needed it in MONTHS.
Btw, heres a bookmarklet I wrote a while ago. Just go to the comments page of a digg story and click it:
javascript:window.location.href=window.location.href.replace('digg.com', 'duggmirror.com'); - wesball, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Wasting our time? As if looking at before and after photos of a star thats been dead for 45 years is productive...
- BayAreaKing, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1i believe the point was to show that the "marilyn monroe look" was basically due to the way she put on her makeup
- olddirtycr, on 10/12/2007, -17/+5Am i the only one who doesn't find her that attracting?
- arcooke, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Attractive.
- spookyttws, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Attracting? As in she has a gravitational pull?
- benjie, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Attracting. As in Addicting.
- robdazomba, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7No, you're not the only one. I'm sure there are other gay guys on Digg too.
Criminy! How can anyone look at pics of MM and not at least think she's somewhat attractive? To me, she was really the ultimate (and original) babe. She was physically beautiful and seems to have a beautiful personality that comes across in the images as well. What's not to like? - Pikachelsea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Beautiful personality? Yeah, the way she OD'd on drugs an all was really touching. What an intelligent gal.
btw, she suffers from "lol my eyes are too far apart" syndrome, much like Britney Spears.
- nubnub, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2Mole = digusting.
- superbonbon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4uhm, she's wearing makeup in both pictures and looks fine in both pictures.
- zephc, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5She was always a dish.
- strabes, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I hope this isn't a sign that digg is becoming a celeb gossip website. That's what myspace news is going to be for.
- EochaidRiata, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Without the face paint she looks a little like Donna Reed.
- pittpat, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18I personally think Marilyn was one of the most attractive women in history. I think she was even more beautiful without makeup.
- xobecide, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Audrey Hepburn takes that title in my book.

- TheGorn, on 10/12/2007, -13/+6She was pretty average. Get over her.
- robdazomba, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Bitch, please!
- pawbiz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Marilyn was a beauty!! There's a great video on this site that has pics of other celebrities with and without makeup too-and it's pretty shocking to see the difference in some of them. http://www.FreeMovieMall.com The direct link to that video is: http://latestvideo.freemoviemall.com/s717/latestvideo3370.htm
- Ender008, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats just sad...like wow.
- JeffD, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Most women look better without makeup, looks like Marilyn was no exception. (Granted some of those were bad photos).
- Pikachelsea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some do (Christina Aguilera and her clown face paint come to mind), but most? Hardly. If they do it well then the point is that the make-up will have a subtle but flattering effect.
- redmond007, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5she was a beauty without makeup, and with bad camera angles and lighting. marilyn is a legend for a reason.
- fremeer, on 10/12/2007, -13/+6yeah cause she ***** JFK and died cause she was a junkie. She never really made any good movies and was known solely for her looks. Monroe is a stupid legend that never deserved that spot. Stupid goddamn celebtrity obssesed culture with no ***** lives.
- sogracefully, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3fremeer, no, it's because she pioneered the image of the woman who is comfortable and open about her sexuality. just because you don't like her movies doesn't mean she wasn't a cultural icon. gawd, have some class.
- noots, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5fremeer, Some Like it Hot was voted the greatest comedy of all time by the american film institute.
- caketank, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1@noots:
Dude, I got news for the American Film Institute.
(not that fremeer isn't a dick)
- santaliqueur, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0the 3rd 4th and 5th picture sets, she looks much better without makeup.
- UltimateFerg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1You mean she wore makeup? You're kidding right?!
- UO07, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Is she still alive like Elvis?
- driller131, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0well this should be true for any celebrity whom we are more used to seeing on print in magazines and party pics and not without makeup...anyway marilyn was a classic beauty no doubts bout that
- PhoneGuy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Marilyn was a beauty, that much is true - with or without her makeup. But in all seriousness, Lauren Bacall has her beat, hands down!
- DaveV, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I like her without the makeup. She looks more real and less like a doll.
- eliburford, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Extensive makeup.
- WickedEEE, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2This is lame, front page diggs for this? You nerds need some tang.....
- supermajic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12you're on digg buddy, you are a nerd
- FakeFakerson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Dude! Can you believe she was black and white without the makeup on!? Gotta be fake!
- estacado, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How is this different from any other Hollywood star today. If plastic surgery existed back then, I'm 100% sure Marilyn would have had it done on her.
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1she looks fine naturally... perhaps better than all the makeup she puts on... looks a bit gross
- eyko, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I think she's ugly (my own concept of beauty is peculiar I guess...) without the makeup. Then again, I never really saw her so beautiful with the makeup anyway... I guess the whole glamour story is just hollywood marketing... she doesn't seem so much of a beauty in this her porno (warning: NSFW) http://historiarara.blogspot.com/2007/01/la-pelcula-porno-de-marilyn-monroe.html film...
- sztuka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I really have never found her attractive under any circumstances but I do think that the pictures of her without the makeup make her look better. In general I dislike makeup except in minimal amounts.
- dstz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Oh she's so awful without makeup. Not.
- flink405, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Lame....
the first one is a comparison between a photo and a painting.
The rest have to do with bad cameras or photos.
And they aren´t before and after type shots. They are just comparison between similar posed shots.
Marilyn was a beauty, that´s for sure. - stephakneex, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0she looks pretty either way [:
- Sepeteus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1She's so purdy even without makeup.
- LLamaStar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2A natural beauty is what I see.
- Lilbrittle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Fake is what i See Buried as Lame
- Buckeye70, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I came to digg and all I found was people magazine. What's next whether Britney looks better with or without hair?
- cyrus6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6What the ***** has happened to Digg?
- Penn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is why we need a picture filter.
- JimGardner1973, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Amazingly beautiful woman.
- Dolphtesla, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Man, that chick is fat!
- rowlodge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1her smile is better without makeup.
- JR__, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0She looks better without make up.
- badbox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why do women wear makeup and perfume?
...because they're ugly and they stink!!
BOOYAH! :D- ellecon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1great argument for men's cosmetics ;)
- ellecon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Makeup is designed to improve appearance. Foundation evens out skin tone, mascara makes the eyes look bigger, blush makes the cheekbones look higher, etc. Cosmetics wouldn't be a multi-billion dollar industry if beauty products made you look worse.
There is a deeper meaning in all of this beyond celebrity worship, namely how we define beauty. It is interesting that the heavily made-up bottle-blonde with large boobies has continued to be a symbol of female perfection for over 50 years.
Is it life imitating art or art imitating life? Would Pamela Anderson,Jessica Simpson, and the like be considered attractive if it were not for "icons of beauty" like Marilyn Monroe?
One way to geek up the post.....:) - Gimli, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I prefer the Marilyn Monroe without make-up the ones you see of her with make-up in my opinion make her look a little slutty (not that it's a bad thing :-) ). My father told me a story that when he was in the Navy during WWII and station in San Fransisco that he actually bumped into Lucille Ball (This was before she was famous) and knocking down on her ass. He apologize for knocking her over as he was helping her get back up to her feet (That's how he knew it was her for she told him her name), but the thing he remembers the most about the incident was she wasn't wearing any make-up and he told me that she was downright ugly without any make-up on (He even says she was one of the ugliest women he has ever seen). Some women look good with or without make-up and some should never go outside without putting make-up on.
