- Wacer, on 12/12/2007, -21/+249***** Peta. I believe that animals should not be tortured/abused but this group is wacko.
- ghm101, on 12/12/2007, -10/+128 As long as the animals are responsibly farmed, harvested rather than hunted to extinction, I do not really see the difference between fur and leather.
- xdeliriumx, on 12/12/2007, -8/+76I'm with you, tortured and abused animals is terrible but people really need to do their research before associating with this group. They are hypocrits, terrorists, and extremists that do not know entirely what they are saying.
e.g. PETA is against animal testing and have been quoted as saying they would rather millions suffer with AIDS then have the cure found by animal testing... yet a board member uses insulin which... guess what? was tested on animals before humans...
Also, their campaign comparing animal processing plants to the holocaust is an abomination.
Please, PLEASE do your research people. Excepting things on blind fate will only lead you to the slaughter. - gnick, on 12/12/2007, -9/+58Who hates FireFox???
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -5/+47*shudder*
- drlha, on 12/12/2007, -4/+44The guy clearly has a skeleton fetish.
- mapperguy, on 12/12/2007, -8/+47isn't fur a renewable resource?
- crichton101, on 12/12/2007, -20/+58I'ld like to see members of PETA tell that to a lion in the African jungle. You know, walk right up to it and tell it that its not okay to kill other animals because its wrong, and I'll even video tape it for them for posterity. In nature animals horribly and painfully kill their prey for food. How is that any different then what man does? We just do it a different way, and we actually use them for more then just food. Even primates eat meat when they can get some. And if it wasn't for animal fur, man would've died out a long ass time ago. The better argument would be to find more humane ways to kill animals for food and our other needs. But animal testing is needed for the betterment of man.
- swordedge, on 12/12/2007, -7/+42This is the same group that "returns" white lab rats to the wild. Only one thing, white lab rats were bred in captivity. They have NEVER existed in the wild. Talk about cruel and unusual punishment.... and a free meal to lots of animals.
- capiCrimm, on 12/12/2007, -11/+46to understand that you would need to be rational, which means you wouldn't be in PETA.
I'm pretty sure you could find one of them arguing for the death penalty for harming an animal. - Wiini, on 12/12/2007, -38/+72Funny thing is, I hate the Olsen Twins, AND PETA.
I also hate the NAACP, Britney Spears, Amnesty International, vegans, most vegetarians, tree huggers, pro-abortion 'activists', anti-abortion 'activitists', Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, U2, Green Peace, FireFox, ACLU, Code Pink, Oprah, Universal Health Care, Anything Disney on Ice, High School Music, Justin Timberlake, Paris Hilton, Global Warming, and anyone who thinks Dolphins are actually smarter than humans. - doctechnical, on 12/12/2007, -9/+41And let's not forget that fur is completely biodegradable and therefore earth friendly!
- GeorgeStone2, on 12/12/2007, -10/+42Torture?
Would that not ruin the fur?
Maybe torture is the new apple on digg. - crichton101, on 12/12/2007, -6/+37You forgot to mention that at their shelter for animals they routinely euthanize animals when they get to many. Apparently it's okay to kill animals when they have too many of them, but it's not okay for me to kill one to eat or to wear it's fur.
- xdeliriumx, on 12/12/2007, -8/+37I don't want to promote their site but I read awhile ago on fishinghurts.com(a PETA site) says that fish are "steeped in social intelligence" and have "Machiavellian strategies of manipulation". I ROFLCOPTERed out the door when I read that. Biggest load of garbage I have ever read. LOL
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -103/+129Fur looks great on people! I am buying rabbit coats for my two daughters. One of my daughter even picked a pink one.
Don't let the crazies get you down! Wear fur, its warm and soft!!! - KirbyMeister, on 12/12/2007, -10/+36For every animal you don't eat I'll eat THREE!
- xobecide, on 12/12/2007, -3/+292 cows 1 prod?
- parabolee, on 12/12/2007, -1/+25Sounds like you are about ready to join the People who hate people party, shame they can never get a meeting together. "Are you going?", "Yes", "Well then ***** it I ain't going!"
RIP Bil Hicks - xdeliriumx, on 12/12/2007, -4/+26It much more then just buckets of blood. They are hypocrits and terrorists.
- drlha, on 12/12/2007, -1/+23You'll be the first against the wall when the fish revolt, sadly.
- Balanced, on 12/12/2007, -1/+23PETA generally is against leather, too.
- Phyltre, on 12/12/2007, -1/+21They never talk.
- dseelman, on 12/12/2007, -6/+25***** peta and ***** the olsen twins
- wiifm69, on 12/12/2007, -3/+22Reminiscent of southpark when they run around throwing buckets of blood on people
- xdeliriumx, on 12/12/2007, -5/+24Oh, I didn't forget.. I could go on all day. They also think animals should have equal rights to humans... if this were the case then millions of animals would be incarcerated for not following laws and for killing each other. How is an animal in the wild killing another for food any different then me killing an animal for food? I get the not torturing and all but PETA does not know what the hell they are talking about.
- swazo, on 12/12/2007, -3/+22Speaking as a vegetarian.
Sorry about PETA. One organization I will never support. - Asay, on 12/12/2007, -9/+27This makes me want to go out and get a fur hat while eatting a porkchop on a stick.
- zengonzo, on 12/12/2007, -3/+20Not to stand up for PETA, but how animals behave in the wild should not define the lower bounds for how we act in civilization.
- krellor, on 12/12/2007, -6/+23The problem is that a lot of the animals that fur is gathered from are only farmed for their fur and not eaten or otherwise used (minks for example). Most carnivore's are no good for eating (or are just not eaten) and only the fur is used. Leather on the other hand is usually harvested from cows for the slaughter. Now, I agree, PETA is whack, but they aren't always wrong on a subject, they just go about it in a piss poor manner that alienates people who even agree with them (like me). I personally hate PETA because of how the have damaged the animal rights movement and given all of its supporters a bad name. I myself am vegetarian and don't purchase things that I know that have animal products (such as leather), but I don't support PETA.
That said, I don't try to force my beliefs on others, such as my vegatarianism, nor do I ridicule or insult those who eat meat (calling them murderers, etc...) and it pisses me off when people automatically make assumptions, ridicule, or make light of my beliefs. Such as when they find out I am a vegatarian telling me "Yeah, but meat tastes good." (I'm looking at you spookyuk). Your right, it does, but I made a moral choice to boycott the meat industry because it it inhumane, not because I don't like the taste of meat. Just like any religion that doesn't eat a particular animal, it is for moral reasons, not taste preference. Anyway, end rant. You don't have to like or support PETA, but don't make light of the beliefs of others, and don't disagree with them out of spite. If this was any other organization people would be saying things like "Burn!" for lambasting the insipid twins and getting those ugly shots of them in fur. - Metalmoon, on 12/12/2007, -14/+30Methods of killing:
Caged fur-bearing animals are killed by inhumane methods such as gassing, neck breaking, anal electrocution, and injection with poisons.
http://files.hsus.org/web-files/PDF/WILD_Caged_Fur ... - Cyber_Akuma, on 12/12/2007, -6/+22Well, from what I understand, most animals kill either for self-defense or food, not sport (though I am sure a few do). Animals killed for their fur is for high-expense fashion.
But yeah, PETA are total whackjobs, saying we shoulden't kill an animal even for food and some of the real crazy ones practically use terrotist-like tactics to break animals out of confinment. - doctechnical, on 12/12/2007, -2/+18"Well, from what I understand, most animals kill either for self-defense or food, not sport (though I am sure a few do)."
Housecats love to play with their food before finally killing it (if they bother to kill it at all, sometimes they'll get bored and leave their crippled prey to die a slow and agonizing death). And killer whales like to play toss with baby seals before finally eating them.
Mother Nature's a bitch, isn't she? - osirislink, on 12/12/2007, -0/+15Olsen Twin or ET in his ceremonial robe? You decide: http://entimg.msn.com/i/gal/2007GoldenGlobes_Undre ...
- thcobbs, on 12/12/2007, -0/+14It wasn't just in south park.... they did that for REAL.
- LALDET, on 12/12/2007, -5/+18Dear PETA,
I hate you. Worry about important things such as nuclear weapons.. those kill animals too.. and people. - inactive, on 12/12/2007, -3/+16You ever try waterboarding a rabbit or mink? Not as easy as you would expect.
- Gryffydd, on 12/12/2007, -4/+16Don't forget Green Day
- signal15, on 12/12/2007, -5/+17Fur is a renewable resource.
Everyone complains about plastics and plastic production ruining our planet. I would suspect that fur is much more environmentally friendly than a polyester filled coat. - Metalmoon, on 12/12/2007, -3/+14Rape (including child rape) and murder are also found in the animal kingdom. I wouldn't use nature as a guide for anyone's actions or morals.
- inactive, on 12/12/2007, -2/+13I'm SO going to hell for laughing at that.
- thcobbs, on 12/12/2007, -4/+15How about this article? PETA employees charged with animal cruelty.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8255324/ - CZzyzx41, on 12/12/2007, -0/+11Well when that was written, the Dolphins weren't 0-13.
- norman619, on 12/12/2007, -0/+10No *****. Funding arsonists and killing most of the animals they "save" is insane.
- tgiles, on 12/12/2007, -4/+14Dugg up for the "spotted a calorie" quip.
- randersontt, on 12/12/2007, -9/+19If God hadn't mean for us to wear animals he wouldn't have made them out of fur!
- abyss478, on 12/12/2007, -1/+11sounds like a dr. cox rant but without the funny
- onwardknave, on 12/12/2007, -3/+12The "E" in PETA stands for Ethical -- an attribute of which I think most would agree a lion is incapable as much as a lion would be incapable of being conversely unethical. The point is that humans have power and responsibility, and the people here at Digg seem obligated to take the contrarian point of view in order to justify or rationalize indifference.
