- sockpuppets, on 07/01/2009, -3/+51Dead at the senseless age of 97.
- Harvester1, on 07/01/2009, -1/+32I normally don't comment on celebrity deaths--after all, I didn't know them personally--but what a giant this man was! A truly marvelous actor, and one whom I will fondly remember!
- Shaggy3, on 07/01/2009, -2/+28RIP #6
- roebeet, on 07/02/2009, -0/+26He was married for 70 YEARS......holy crap.....
- BriskT, on 07/01/2009, -0/+24Haven't seen many of his films, but I will always remember him for General Omar Bradley in Patton.
- inactive, on 07/02/2009, -0/+22His nose, however, is immortal.
- viper001, on 07/02/2009, -5/+23He had his whole life ahead of him. Such a shame it is, for one to die so young :(
- SkippyDoorknob, on 07/01/2009, -1/+18To be honest, I didn't know he was still alive...
- inactive, on 07/01/2009, -0/+16"Streetcar Named Desire", "On the Waterfront", "Baby Doll". . . all a testatment to his great working relationship with Elia Kazan, and some of the greatest American films of all time.
- guruboyguru, on 07/02/2009, -4/+20My God. They're dropping like flies.
- charlietuna, on 07/02/2009, -0/+15Ninety ***** seven! God bless.
- WordsnCollision, on 07/01/2009, -0/+14An interesting bit of trivia about Malden deals with his Serbian birth-name, Mladen Sekulovich. As an actor he often found ways to insert his real last name into dialog. One such scene occurred in Patton when Malden, playing Gen. Omar Bradley, said "Hand me that helmet, Sekulovich." He also used the name when reciting a list of prisoners in The Birdman of Alcatraz, in which he played the warden. RIP, Mr. Sekulovich.
- LargeStack, on 07/02/2009, -0/+13Was he mauled by Wolves?
- Nothlit, on 07/02/2009, -0/+12People are always dying. You're just noticing it more.
- CrazySpaniard, on 07/02/2009, -2/+12at least he wasn't 50
- bstew22, on 07/02/2009, -1/+10Patton: I don't know why, but the image of a bullet coming straight for my nose was more horrifying than anything else.
General Omar N. Bradley: Well, I can understand that, George, it's such a handsome nose. - DarkShroud, on 07/02/2009, -0/+8Do something right the first time and you won't have to do it again.
- JustKid700, on 07/02/2009, -1/+8STELLA!!!!!!!

- kickelephant, on 07/02/2009, -1/+7Go watch "A street car named Desire." It's in black and white, is that ok?
- Nothlit, on 07/02/2009, -1/+7Probably some guy you've never heard of.
- bignetbuy, on 07/02/2009, -0/+5*applauds*
Well said, Brisk. He fit that role to a T and played it magnificently. The perfect opposite to George C. Scott. - gumballer, on 07/01/2009, -3/+8He was from Gary Indiana, just like MJ.
- JinxCrow, on 07/02/2009, -0/+5It's because most people in their 20's wouldn't know who he was.
- inactive, on 07/01/2009, -2/+6Does that mean we are done for a while?
- Hu99, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4He was almost 2x50.
- asgardshill, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4"Son, when you're doing crap, do it quickly. We are doing crap."
(Karl Malden, advice to "Streets of San Fransisco" co-star Michael Douglas) - Xaevier, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4Aye it's refreshing to see somebody go due to old age. All of these 50 something deaths are very depressing.
- FLUX, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4He may be dead but his nose will live on
- JinxCrow, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4I thought he was fantastic as the Father in "Streetcar Named Desire" and I know I've seen him in various flims over the years, I admired his 'look', he had a great voice for delivering lines too.
- mexfoo, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4rest in peace!
- UnpossibIe, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4Who's watching the celebrities?
- rednaxela825, on 07/02/2009, -1/+5You missed Ed McMahon and Billy Mays.
- Nidy1, on 07/02/2009, -1/+4You're a film buff and work in television and you don't know Ed McMahon from The Tonight Show?
- INTERNETMASTER, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3makes me think of alt.fan.karl-malden.nose
- Hu99, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Dugg for "Music Man" reference. It is "Music Man" isn't it?
- Balanced, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Abe's been thought to be dead for decades and keeps on not being dead.
- shrontzy, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Really bad week to be a celebrity.
- inactive, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3The government is killing all these 70's celebrities to keep the media focused on them so they won't report on how screwed up the economy is. And stuff like that.
- Spacejack, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2For a different taste of this master thespian, check out Dario Argento's "Cat of Nine Tails." Kind of a ***** story, but there's an excellent detective character created there for Malden, which sadly was never reprised.
- energyx, on 07/02/2009, -2/+4Abe Vigoda next?
- Hu99, on 07/02/2009, -1/+3It must have been a real shock to those close to him. 97? Why so young!?!?!
- gstlouis, on 07/02/2009, -1/+3Numerous articles have also referred to him as a pitchman. If true, this completes the second "set of 3"!
First, celebrities:
David Carradine, Farrah Fawcett, and Michael Jackson
Second, pitchmen:
Ed McMahon, Billy Mays, Karl Malden
Hopefully this is it for a while... - mlvassallo, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2I didn't know Malden was alive still!
- 1x253, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2I liked it when he sang,"STELLAAAA, I wanna be your FELLAAAA!!!" Oh, wait, no... that was Ned Flanders. He was best in "Streets of San Francisco", though in my opinion. That and the MasterCard commercials... or was that Amex? Anyway, the opening of "Streets" was always really cool because they showed the car catching air at the top of one of those neato burrito San Francisco hills... but that was a little before Dukes of Hazard when you got to watch it every week.
- PArbo, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2That is interesting, actually. I had my doubts.
- Rougass, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Digg has been obituaries-only this week.
