- drachemorder, on 04/16/2008, -7/+15When God says he is "jealous" it's not talking about jealous the way we think of jealousy. My singles pastor has been talking about something similar to this recently. He calls it "God's selfish will". God is all about himself and his own glory. But that's not wrong, the way it's wrong for people to be selfish or jealous. In God's case, it really is all about Him and His glory. It's okay for God to be selfish --- indeed, He MUST be selfish --- because that's what the reality is. He is jealous --- in other words, he can't share glory with another and can't tolerate anyone else being worshipped --- because there is no other who deserves worship. For him to do so would be a denial of the truth, which is that he alone is worthy of worship and glory.
What makes human selfishness wrong? It's wrong because being selfish inflates one's own importance at the expense of others, takes away from them, and detracts from them. But God cannot inflate his own importance because he is already all-important; he cannot take away from others because it all belongs to him in the first place.
So Oprah fundamentally misunderstands the nature of existence. Everything about the universe is an expression of God's will. Our own existence is an expression of God's will. Our very ability to worship God is something He gave us. Everything belongs to God by right because He is sovereign and He created it. Oprah's fundamental mistake is to look at moral good --- kindness, mercy, love, compassion, etc. --- as ends by themselves. She sees those as the fundamental truths of the universe, when in reality God is the fundamental truth, and the virtues she admires are mere expressions and reflections of God's character.- jamesbrownlord, on 04/16/2008, -4/+1

But jealousy, in it's place, is good--akin to loyalty and "protectiveness." Good is perfect, so His jealousy is only positive. Too bad Oprah doesn't understand this! (How silly to think that Almighty, All-powerful God is jealous "of" any human--looks like someone's popularity has distorted her perspective)

She's done this through the guests she has invited on her program including the assorted New Age gurus that she follows. What is particularly insidious about this is that there are many "Christians" who thought that Oprah was/is a Christian and therefore have purchased books, etc. promoted on her program. Because so many Christians are not discipled in the Word of God, many have been deceived by New Age teaching. 20 years ago when people like Dave Hunt and Tex Marrs first started talking about the infiltration of New Age teachings within the Body of Christ, most people were either clueless or skeptical. Now this apostasy continues to spread rampantly and Christians need to learn what the Bible teaches in order to gain the discernment required for the days we live in.
Oprah and New Age guru Marianne Williams (A Course in Miracles) are anticipating the formation of a cabinet level position with the next administration in a newly formed "Department of Peace" (Kucinek is another politician that supports this idea, too). There's probably as many different religions as there are people. Everyone has their own world-view, and everyone thinks their own world-view is the right one. This is where tolerance and patience comes in. It's best to think that your own world-view is *probably* the right one. Oops. See, that's my world-view. Didn't mean to impose it on anyone. You call other people "fools" for not agreeing with you. It's not nice to do that. It certainly rubs me up the wrong way.

Hmmm. You're the one criticizing believers for grammar and spelling? Check out your own sentence structure first if you wish to have any credibility. BTW, there are atheist posters who also lack grammar/spelling/key-boarding skills who post on digg, too. Don't be a hypocritical grammar nazi - if you are going to be one, then at least get your own act together first and don't just point out the mistakes of Christians - point'em all out or don't bother.

How would you feel if you helped someone and they turned around and thanked someone else for the help? Or would like a theocracy in place of government to enforce their religious laws on everyone. You're right though, Islamic terrorists are prepared to do heinous things for their faith, but not all muslims think that way. If we persecute all muslims because of the actions of a few then they will have every right to start thinking the terrorists are right.

Trauma like that will most certainly cause someone to recoil at the very idea that there is only one way to GOD, when along the journey you were raped by an uncle who was on that same path. I know others who refuse to believe for that same reason.

She says she is a Christian...but she doesn't believe in Christ's own teachings? Christ taught that He was the Truth, the Life, and the Way...and nobody comes to Father God but by Him, the Son. He also was perfectly clear when He taught that if you reject the Son, you reject the Father as well. Oprah is teaching people to reject Jesus Christ as the Son of God and as our Savior...it's sad and expected in these last days. I pray for the millions of people being taken in by this false teaching that moves them away from Jesus...without Him they have no hope.
