Any lengthy exposure to sunlight would have resulted in a burn. I know someone else who is black who has it and the marks are quite visible. Being an entertainer, he'd have to have a smooth complexion and I am sure you can follow this to the logical conclusion.

Vitiligo caused some discoloration of his skin, and both diseases made him sensitive to sunlight. The drugs he had to take for treatment accelerated his loss of skin color.
