Then when he shuffled, he just kept the top card on top, which is easy enough to do. Then he probably palmed the card, let Jimmy think he was picking, then handed Jimmy "his card" but really it was just the card he had palmed. The rest is just good showmanship.

For me, it's really upsetting to see The Roots as his band. They are WAY out of his league. he has the ace of diamonds already placed on the top of the deck and when he goes to pull the top half of the deck away to give Jimmy "his" card he slides the top card onto the top of the bottom half of the deck. By doing this he knows that Jimmy will have to pick the ace of diamonds and by this point he already had another Ace in his shoe ready for the tricks finale. -
