- BrianJJohnson, on 11/05/2007, -71/+305yes she does.
- j1337, on 11/05/2007, -59/+189The question doesn't even need to be asked: It's painfully clear that Sarah Silverman sucks.
- logicalnoise, on 10/15/2007, -14/+99I laugh at her show(which has just about everyone ever involved with mr show in it at one time or another(except for bob and david of course)).Her stand up is hit or miss but it's still funny and unique. I mean I'd rather watch lisa lampanelli but then again I'd rather have sex with sarah.
In the end sarah's show is still 1000x times funnier that that POS mencia show. - JlmAWP, on 11/05/2007, -18/+85She's be funnier naked. Completely naked. I'd fake-laugh for that.
- whatthefu, on 11/05/2007, -17/+76Her voice is really ***** annoying.
- Scottamus, on 11/05/2007, -2/+52She can have my abortion anytime.
- Frei, on 10/10/2007, -3/+39Dude, she ***** Jimmy Kimmel, how high could her esteem really be?
- FriedTurkey, on 11/05/2007, -8/+44Part of me wants to defend her just because she is controversial, but the logic part of my brain tells me she just isn't funny. Cute girl saying the word vagina all the time isn't funny. Somewhere you need jokes to be a comedian.
She should have children with Carlos Mencia and they can produce the most unfunny pseudo-controversial, pseudo-edgey "comedian" of all time.
Bring back Dave Chappel. That guy was smart and funny. - civperc, on 11/05/2007, -12/+45Andy Milonakis is less painful than Sarah, and I CAN'T STAND Andy.
- jjpertusch, on 10/13/2007, -23/+54i think most people miss the point of her humor.
for example: in the most recent episode of her show she says she's had 3 abortions and acts as if it is no big deal. the joke is not that she's a whore and that its funny to be rude and disgusting; the joke is that there are strong anti-abortion protesters that believe that there are these people walking around, having sex, and aborting the fetuses over and over just because they can.
"i've had three abortions... abortii? yeah, the first time i was young. the second time was just not a good time for me... a lot of stuff going on. and the third time i was like 'Whhaaaaat?!' "
thats funny. - Groovemaster, on 10/17/2007, -25/+50Pushing the limits is great if it's done well, but she's just not funny.
- grouchyman, on 10/10/2007, -3/+26We really need to ask Jimmy Kimmel that.
- RikkiTikki, on 10/17/2007, -7/+26South Park does crude and hilarious well. Sarah Silverman is like that loser in school who says gross things to get boys to like her.
- geardosdotnet, on 10/18/2007, -20/+39She is quite funny. But the problem is the politically-correct weasels can't understand what real raw humor is about.
Either that or they have a problem with a women expressing herself the way male comedians have done for years. Welcome to the modern world. - chris9902, on 11/05/2007, -20/+38She's a mean bitch who couldn't string a joke together to save her life. I've seen her twice on TV and both times she was just rude and obnoxious.
- eltejano, on 10/10/2007, -14/+31She's much funnier than most commenters are
- MacGyver2210, on 10/10/2007, -6/+22The word 'unfunni' is pretty funny...
- Humptydank, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18"Lenny Bruce and Andy Kaufman's respective strains of humor were less about eliciting laughter than provoking discomfort as a means to achieve the funny."
Excuse me? Andy Kaufman, yes. But somebody needs to go back and re-educate themselves on Lenny Bruce. The later (justified) persecution rants aside, Lenny Bruce was straight-up, smart, laugh-out-loud funny. He just used language that wasn't on the approved list. He was all about eliciting laughter, and to even compare him to Andy Kaufman makes no sense whatsoever. - monkeyrun, on 11/05/2007, -16/+31Yes she does suck.
Her jokes are annoying and repetitive. - BJNK, on 10/10/2007, -6/+20I disagree.. of all the things that could be said about Britney, I thought she was very nice about it.
- ScornForSega, on 10/17/2007, -69/+83I don't know what the hell you guys are talking about, that show is funny as hell. I love the fact that nothing is off limits. There's plenty of "safe" network comedy shows that wouldn't even so much as make a joke about abortion much less dedicate an entire episode to it.
It's about time a show came along that decided to push the limits. If I have to hear another ***** pun on one of these god damn network sitcoms, I'll shoot myself in the face. - TheLoneHoot, on 10/10/2007, -11/+24"She's funny for a girl but as a comedian, suck."
What year are you from? - YummyCupcakes, on 10/13/2007, -12/+25Sara Silverman doesn't suck. She's beyond suck; I would venture that the fact that her show is in season two is probably one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. That, or she must be throwing Jimmy Kimmell one hell of a BJ.
Her show is so incredibly bad that it reminds me of a quote I heard a long time ago...
"*****? That isn't *****. That isn't good enough to be *****. That is so bad, it's where flies go after they've been on ***** all day."
It just isn't funny. Period. Yeah, we get it Sara, you're all cool and edgy talking about abortions and making fun of Martin Luther King Jr. It's kind of like Bob Sagat talking about "***** that ***** in her *****, the stanky cooze!" Ok, it was kind of shocking the first time (Full House dad is dirty, oooh!), but after about 30 seconds, it's tired, witless, and just plain boring. It's like a four year old who figured out the shock value of dirty words.
And Sara isn't "cute" either. She's got the face of Mister Ed's once removed 2nd cousin, and the body of a ten year old boy. Rachel Ray is more stacked than Sara. - Jtheletter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Here's the thing though, she's just trying to be edgy and/or gross to get her laughs. Finding the irony or humor in an outrageous position isn't funny if the execution of the joke is still poorly done. Take a look at the popularity of South Park vs the Sarah Silverman Show. Both have characters taking outrageous positions, or following arguments to their absurd logical conclusions. But South Park is better written, and better executed as far as the jokes and juxtapositions of stupid arguments goes. Both shows are taking on similar material in a similar style but one is consistently funnier than the other. I think a lot of people "get" what Silverman is doing, but it still isn't funny most of the time. For what it's worth the few times I've seen the show I think the gay couple are the only funny thing about it. Sarah's trying too hard to be funny by being ignorant (sometimes to the point of mild retardation it seems) or spouting poop jokes for her stuff to pack any punch.
- ThndrShk2k, on 10/10/2007, -6/+19Meh, that takes alot and I would say that anyone is better than Mencia, including Silverman
- FishHammer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13i'd still do her
- CraigJ, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Chappell > (Silverman + Mancia) ^ 2
- pintomp3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11chappelle's show was genius. it was well thought out and extremely funny on many levels. it made fun of stereotypes and it was edgy. mencia (holness) just reinforces stereotypes and silverman is edgy for the sake of being edgy, neither are particularly funny. comedy central tried to fill chappelle's shoes with these two, but the result was almost the exact opposite.
- petebot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12
I don't know whether to digg you or bury you. On one hand, I completely agree with you about Mencia (I assume that's who "Mancina" is). He's a completely unfunny tool. He ripped off Chapelle's format and made it suck. He's doing what Chapelle was afraid of becoming. On the other hand, Silverman’s show is nothing like Chapelle’s show in format, though some of the subject matter is similar. I don’t see why they would be comparable. I also think her show’s pretty funny (come on—nobody laughed at “Jesus of Noise-ereth”?)
I’m not saying it’s the best show ever, but at least it’s got some originality. And it doesn’t have catchphrases. - logicalnoise, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10IMO silverman could do a normal act easily she has the training and experience and supposedly is a good comedy writer(she did work on mr show and The larry Sanders show(before even meeting kimmel)). Mencia on the other hand has 0 delivery, no writing skills(he has a full staff write the still unfunny meterial he uses) and tendancy to just rip people off. Sarah isn't a uber-comedian but she's much more capable than that clown.
- fuze44, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Trust me, man. Preserve that particular state of ignorance. Don't look him up.
- chris9902, on 10/13/2007, -11/+20Out of the millions of jokes you could've made about Britney bringing her kids into was really low. Not funny at all. just rude.
- parkgroove, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Definitely, look at those eyebrows!
- Humptydank, on 10/10/2007, -10/+19She sucks when she's doing the "naughty girl with a potty mouth" routine, which she relies on waaaaay to much. But there's a lot about her show (which is co-written) that's very funny and actually pretty sophisticated humor on controversial subjects. I'd be very interested to know who contributes what to that final product.
- sonaboy, on 11/05/2007, -22/+31Sarah Silverman makes repressed and conservative people uncomfortable, so obviously she's mostly hated. The comparison to Lenny Bruce is apt, however, since she's more or less a product of her environment. It always takes the "*****" to put a society running rampant with delusion and fear into perspective. Bruce did an excellent job by coming from a counter-culture perspective because he wasn't a "stupid hippy type" but held many of the same views as that sector of the populace, but he put the thoughts and conscience of that sector into very well-informed and concise ways. It helped immensely that he had amazing comic timing.
Sarah is the same archtype that plays off of the conventions of the self-centered, consumerist victim: stupid, but earnest in her desire to help you be more like her, so she can feel better about herself.
People who don't see these qualities in certain things about themselves rarely find Sarah funny, which is perfect only because she's making fun of them.
She's hilarious, and she's ahead of her time. She can still improve though. - Maver1c, on 10/10/2007, -8/+16Yes, someone actually gets it. While her jokes are usually edgy and gross, there is usually an underlying bit of humour in the things she is saying, you just have to pay attention. Also, she's 1000 times funnier than carlos mencia.
- donkz, on 10/10/2007, -20/+28Agree. She's the most pathetic comedian wannabe who tries to make her way by ***** on other people. A lot of comedians do that because it's simple for people to laugh at others, but she's just unfunni. Sometimes maybe shocking, but not funny.
- rudy23, on 10/17/2007, -4/+12watch soutpark instead.
- dotlizard, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11according to Jimmy Kimmel, she's extremely hairy.
- shazzb0t, on 10/10/2007, -13/+21Ridiculous to even mention Lenny Bruce and Andy Kaufman in a article about Sarah Silverman..
- komodovaraan, on 10/10/2007, -6/+13Her shtick is being this pretty looking girl that dishes out the most explicit language imaginable without blinking. Its a rather thin foundation to built a comedian career on, maybe she can grow out of it?
- hartley, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Wow, am I the only one who actually likes Sarah Silverman, and think she's actually funny?
- jmkiii, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12I think she is funny in small doses.
Her show does suck, though. - AvidPreatorian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8your wish is our command
- kristinab, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9You know, I really love how this became a conversation about her physical appearance within about 3 comments: "face like small rats", "hairy beav", and my personal favorite "funny for a girl". What is this, 1952? Sarah Silverman is a comedian, and I'm guessing she doesn't care all that much whether you Digg readers think she's *****, or hairy, or whatever standards you use to evaluate women.
Perhaps you need to take a long hard look at yourselves and how you evaluate the world around you. Are you getting laid? No? Is it possible that it's because of the attitude you display here?
Since you all are sitting here reading and commenting on Digg, I'm guessing you're sitting in an office or in your home office, that you work in technology or some other relatively high-paying desk job, that you're American, probably white, possibly quite chubby, somewhere between 18-35 and almost definitely male. (I'm not saying every single person on here is like that; I'm simply saying that's the likely demographic here.) Now, the truth is, this is the second time I've recently heard of Digg commenters throwing down with some serious sexism. Actually, the first time, I heard about it. This time I just stumbled upon it. So, the point is, it's getting around. Take note, people. You represent a certain demographic, and it's a powerful one. And you're pretty much showing the world right now that the demographic in question is full of sexist *****. Internet anonymity should not be your ticket to display your worst possible traits. - GorfTron, on 10/13/2007, -16/+22She is funny and she is quite hot.
- futility, on 10/13/2007, -5/+11Her schtick is that she's a cute girl saying horrible horrible things. There's nothing wrong with that. Because she is what she is, she can get away with what she says, which is the point.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9And it probably smells like last month's catch of the day.
- Maver1c, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9I'm guessing you didn't read the post you are replying to, because that is exactly the point jjpertush is making....
