- RawShark, on 10/12/2007, -4/+92A satellite image of Travolta's jet in its garage
http://preview.tinyurl.com/2zrv7r (google maps) - knucklebusted, on 10/12/2007, -2/+79I say more power to him. If you have money and are responsible, do what you want. He is a pilot and, I believe, holds a rating that would allow him to fly commercially with passengers. He's living his dream. Now, if we could just get him to ditch Scientology.
- PPoff, on 10/12/2007, -16/+61@ Expletus
Its an environmental issue because this is about excessive and unnecessary waste.
He doesn't need to own or travel in a Boeing 707 in the same way that a suburban mom doesn't need a Hummer to get back and forth to the grocery store.
That said, I still want one... - datastorageguy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+34Does Xenu get to fly for free?
- Lord_oftheTrons, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32Think of it as a Scientology Church that can swoop in and take people's money, then take off and leave crushed souls (or thetans) in his wake. He could also modify this 707 to escort people to volcanoes before he drops his hydrogen bombs.
- Kestral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23Since his wife is Kelly Preston, you are correct.
- smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23RawShark: well, it's certainly an environmentally irresponsible thing to do. but as you said yourself: he is the only private citizen in the U.S. to own and operate a Boeing 707. there's no point in launching a massive campaign against individuals who fly Boeing 707's then is there? it makes more sense targeting the major segments of society that would make the most difference: industries, automobile makers, changing cultural attitudes about wasteful big block engines, and just moving away from burning fossil-fuels in general. this seems to be working on mainstream society.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20That is so damn cool!!!
btw, awesome house!! - aristoworks, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Travolta is the man. Think about how much stupid ***** people buy with their money - this guy has a commercial pilots license which is hard enough to obtain while NOT having a superstar career. I'd take that house and a plane over million dollar watches and an entourage any day. I'd bet his wife is uber hot!
- jesushchrist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17It's the oldest established permanent floating gay sex club in the world.
- lordsandwich, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Tell me more, tell me more
Like does he have a plane?
Uh-huh, uh-huh... - NinjitsuStylee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Opera? The browser? The vocal music?
...or did you mean Oprah...? o_O - tont0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14"Where is the anti-hummer crowd on this?"
They sold 60,000 Hummers in 2006.
There is only one US Citizen flying their own 707.
Please calm down. - shedao, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15I guess he couldn't get his hands on a working DC-8 space plane: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Xenu_space_plane.jpg
- Anrkist, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16When the Alien Overlords of Scientology come.. he is the smart one, he will take flight and escape!
BATTLEFIELD EARTH FTW!!! - PAlacrosse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13my dad is an air traffic controller at Nashua NH, and one time a few years back had contact with Travolta when he was coming back from France. Now for any of you Pulp Fiction fans, you will understand this. My dad talked to him for a few minutes before asking him where he was heading, when he told him france, then asked him "So, you gonna go get a Royal with cheese?". I found it pretty funny.
- JonForTheWin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Damn, I feel like a serf.
- Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11From the satellite image it looks like he lives in a pilot community. Basically a bunch of pilots get together to fund a runway and then have little "driveways" leading off of it to their houses. Of course most of them just have little cessnas or pipers, but the principal is the same. I bet the other people in that community *love* that gigantic runway.
With all those bucks you'd think Travolta could spring for a hangar, though. It'd bug me to leave those things sitting outside exposed to the weather. - MrVandemar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11You do know that Travolta used that jet to fly in five tons of supplies into New Orleans to aid victims of Katrina, don't you?
- cprincipe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I'm pretty sure the anti-Hummer crowd thinks Travolta's an idiot too.
- loudnobnoxious, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14"We have people starving in the streets and other people struggling to feed their kids."
We have people starving in the streets because they won't help themselves. Maybe if they had gone to school and studied harder they would have done well. Others are so stuck on drugs it's impossible to do anything with them.
Why don't you donate your life, time, and money to making sure these people have something to eat? Oh yeah, you won't.....
John Travolta is just using the money he has made to do something he wants, big deal. I'll admit he's overpaid but don't hate him for being successful and doing what he wants to in life. - mbradbury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@cinemafia
No it was France see here http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110912/quotes - mr.hostility, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15He ***** dudes in that jet, it's pretty well known.
- Doghound, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@wageslave1
"Ah, now it reflects reality."
Where, in your own mind? - dcipjr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11John Travolta's Plane > Vladimir Putin's Plane
- redwave, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I would consider myself part of the "anti-hummer" crowd, but really... this is the least of the problems I have with John Travolta.
- richard67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7ghostnet I think you should check your facts. If a 707 gets 3 MPG with 15000 gallons on board that would be a range of about 45000 miles, or almost two times around the world. Perhaps 3 gallons per mile, but not 3 MPG.
- Flyinace2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7How about this. Any idiot with a drivers lic. can get a Hummer. To get a 707 you have to take some serius trainging that will be confirmed by the FAA. I would rather see more super stars get pilot licences than fancy sports cars. At least with aircraft you have to follow and pass much stricter regulations when it comes to who flies and who doesn't. More power to him.
- GabrielS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Laurie David drives a Prius. How bout dem apples?
I agree though. The Actorvists need to go away. Especially their spouses. Ugh. - DarthTurducken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Still I'd rather fly an A-10 Warthog than a 707. If I could.
- bmalnad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It is also a safe bet that they will not being flying it by themselves. That's what makes Travolta cool - anyone can buy a jet - he flies the frickin' thing!
- mbondr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Sure are a lot of scientologists here. Doesn't bug you guys that this is all coming out of your poor diluded pockets? What tools!
- Nooze2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Grease 3 actually...
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084021/ - MemeWarrior, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Apparently being a stooge for Scientology pays rather well.
- planetmatt, on 10/12/2007, -10/+15@pphof. Sure its an environmental issue but it is no different from any of us choosing to take the car to the store instead of using a bike. It comes down to personal choice.
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I know people who live a mile away from him and they complain all the time about the noise his plane makes
- johnnyrotten, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6At least it's not another "me too". I'm much more impressed by someone driving a real Humvee than a Hummer. It's like someone who drives a muddy, dirty, scratched-up SUV - at least you know it's getting used for the purpose it was intended.
- jett, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6what do you mean he can't afford a real hangar?
He intentionally parks it out in the open so the satellites can take pictures and we'd all see this in Google maps. - HeyBob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'd hate to live in the house across the street - mmm, the smell of av-gas exhaust and the roar of 4 jet engines.
(Hopefully he has the planes towed to and from the house) - DoctaStooge, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12@ PPoff
Do we NEED computers? Do we NEED the internet? Your argument doesn't necessarily work. I agree that him owning a Boeing 707 maybe a bit much, but like Expletus said, it's an airplane and it can't land wherever he wants to it. - twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5They never refueled commercial 707s in-flight. You're full of BS!
- theoristbj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Here's a pic of him about to takeoff...

- lesosso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Travolta must have a decent crew to manage his airplanes, I'm sure they get good salaries, He probably contributes more to the economy than most people.
- kalpol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5WTFtruck?
- awhite2600, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Employee: "John, your plane is here."
John: "What?"
Employee: "Your 707, it's fueled up and ready for you."
John: "Where?"
Employee: "It's in the driveway."
John: "Why?"
Employee: "So you can get to Mr. Kotter's class on time."
John: "When?"
Employee: "Horshack in on the plane naked for you."
John: "On my way." - cl0r0x70, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This comes days after the story of John Edwards' 22000 sq ft mansion.
There is the thought that if you publicly come out and advocate environmental issues, you shouldn't do things like drive around jets gulping up tons of fuel, or building mansions with energy bills and other environmental footprints that are many times more than what you need.
On the other side of the aisle, I saw Cheney ducking questions regarding the conservative condemnation of his gay daughter's pregnancy. Similar investigation of pro-war politicians' willingness to server their country also comes to mind.
Why are we surprised that politicians and actors take a "do as I say, not as I do" approach to life? I don't know what Travolta's environmental stance is, but if he's come out as pro-environment, then he's acting like one of these hypocrites. - gus2074, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Like most of the spam I receive says, you can never have a big enough penis.
- BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Uhm....in case you had not noticed, that is not a plain-jane 707.
