- sbcea, on 10/31/2009, -2/+72Stay Classy Joe!
- riverstyx, on 10/31/2009, -2/+60His debt, the crappy merchandise, his dad capitalizing on the whole thing, record labels releasing old stuff, movie studios and tv stations cranking out documentaries, old lawsuit victims coming out the woodwork, newspapers buying stories about the neurotic fans who committed suicide, neighbors selling stories, celebrities that didnt talk to him or support him but grieve over his death to generate buzz, and losers like Dr Phil waiting behind the curtain to make a quick buck.
Yeah, its safe to say he's worth more dead. - ToksterJokster, on 10/31/2009, -0/+45Even if he is actually worth more monetarily, how do can you say something like that as someones father?
- vault, on 11/01/2009, -1/+42Joe Jackson is a disgusting human being...and if you've ever seen the old interviews, Michael talks about how abusive he was. This was no gaffe.
- directedition, on 11/01/2009, -0/+33Because he's an ***** that exploited his son and robbed him of a childhood to those monetary ends. Michael was nothing more to him than a sack of money.
- riverstyx, on 10/31/2009, -1/+33Because people are heartless, greedy *****.
- RegalBegal, on 11/01/2009, -0/+22Uhhh who's surprised?
- AnalogAssassin, on 11/01/2009, -1/+20No wonder Michael was so ***** up. Supposedly he changed his face so he wouldn't look like his dad.
- Bulletbillx, on 11/01/2009, -0/+18I heard it was more because his dad use to insult his nose and other features during the abuse, which messed up his perception of his body image.
- quirkopatra, on 11/01/2009, -3/+19Joe's just happy that Michael can't give any more interviews and talk about the merciless beatings he suffered at the hands of his dad and the inappropriate situations Joe put his kids in.
- tgc1, on 11/01/2009, -1/+16Jesus, as if it's not enough to push his son through life and made him essentially grow up from the time he was 5 or so (performing professionally from that point forward). I mean did he even let Michael have a childhood? No wonder the guy was into all that neverland stuff and hanging out with kids. He never had a childhood. Listening to the father you can see why Michael ended up how he did. ***** shame though 'cause Michael was incredibly talented.
- directedition, on 11/01/2009, -0/+15Even when that's the case, it's not an observation you generally want coming from your father.
- damack, on 11/01/2009, -0/+11Michaels father was a nightmare when MJ and his brothers were very young he forced them to form Jackson 5 and perform for big bucks.
Michael hated him so much he had numerous nose surgeries because he didn't want to look anything like him.
Those Jackson kids had a nightmare childhood in every definition of the word. Joe Jackson was a cruel bastard all his life and capitalised on the talent of his kids robbing them of their childhoods for money.
He's a large part of why MJ was a depressed child. - kplo, on 10/31/2009, -0/+11So sad but so, so true.
- riverstyx, on 10/31/2009, -1/+12He wasn't making anyone any money by sitting in his house, refixing his nose and doing drugs while he built debt, that's for sure.
Now that he's dead, everyone's making movies about him saying what a saint he was..But when he was alive, no one even came to his defense during his trials. No one gives a ***** about him now unless they can turn a profit. - appleseed1234, on 11/01/2009, -1/+10Wow, and to think Michael Jackson became one of the most charitable entertainers in history in spite of this man.
- gamebittk, on 11/01/2009, -1/+9Now I'm mad real mad Joe Jackson...
- fxu1989, on 11/01/2009, -0/+8He was never a father to begin with. A father isn't somebody who puts the seed, it's somebody who's there for the kid, but not to exploit him.
- WahSuppDude, on 11/01/2009, -0/+7The kind of person Joe Jackson is, I fully doubt that he was taken out of context.
- Daniel591992, on 11/01/2009, -1/+7Yeah, but it's his dad...
- depro9, on 11/01/2009, -2/+8MJ loved the world & Joe loves himself. ***** YOU JOE JACKSON!
- spookyttws, on 11/01/2009, -0/+5Well, he's not really wrong.
- NorrisOBE, on 11/01/2009, -1/+6This ***** is responsible for turning MJ into a mess of a life outside his fame and fortune. He is the reason why MJ has never got a "proper childhood", and why the abusive trauma caused by Joe's beating and hatred of Michael turned MJ into what the media called "Whacko Jacko" before (and after) his death.
If MJ did molest Kyle Chandler and Gavin Arvizo, then the root must have came from the same molestive abuses caused by that ***** Joe. I don't believe that MJ did it, but i do believe that Joe Jackson is the cause of all of MJ's problems. It's no wonder why MJ relies on the comfort of his mom, Diana Ross and Brooke Shields. Joe Jackson is such a douche. - wakeupsticky, on 11/01/2009, -1/+6The white Joe Jackson is far cooler and much much more awesome. Love his music.
- masshysteria899, on 11/01/2009, -1/+5Sick bastard.
- XorpheusX, on 11/01/2009, -1/+5No, but we will jump to conclusions based on the fact that Joe Jackson is a well-documented grade-A *****
- VelvetoneFusion, on 11/01/2009, -0/+4Look sharp!
- Hecubus452, on 11/01/2009, -7/+11Why are we still talking about this?
- Darkyuubi, on 11/01/2009, -0/+4So is Van Gogh...
- nammfoodle, on 11/01/2009, -0/+4Here's context:
http://extratv.warnerbros.com/2009/10/joe_jackson_ ... - DrunkenSavior, on 11/01/2009, -1/+5Oh thank god. I've been paying child support forever for no reason!
- MikeRiley, on 11/01/2009, -1/+5Not true. He might have started him down the path but Michael Jackson wasn't a little kid when he died. He made his own decisions. You can point blame anywhere you want, but the guy was an adult and it was him who lived his life.
- Frozenfuryblade, on 11/01/2009, -0/+3Anyone else watch World's Greatest Dad?
Very similar. - clouds31, on 11/01/2009, -1/+4***** JOE JACKSON!
- zvoidx, on 11/01/2009, -0/+3He gets so mean around this scene...
- ackack, on 11/01/2009, -0/+3Plus, Michael's no longer spending money like it's going out of style on mansions, a menagerie, toys, circuses, etc.
- johnnyp11, on 11/01/2009, -1/+4When Joe Jackson dies I'm going to ***** on his grave, sorry.
- radanator2, on 11/01/2009, -0/+3If my eye's don't deceive me, there's something going wrong around here.
- nerd05, on 11/01/2009, -0/+3Exactly what I came hear for say.
What he says: "He's worth more dead than when he was alive," Joe, 80, tells "Extra" in an interview that airs Thursday night. "I'd rather have him alive."
Digg's reaction: "What an absolute lowlife *****."
It's very clear from reading the interview that his father is against the sudden posthumous success. - ParasyteStuie, on 11/01/2009, -0/+3Sony's Epic Records had Michael Jackson killed because they knew he would be worth more money to them dead.
There. I said it. - Granfalloon, on 11/01/2009, -1/+4What an absolute lowlife *****. That man is a waste of good skin.
- jagenigma, on 11/01/2009, -0/+2Joe Jackson beat his kids and treated them like cash cows. so ***** him. If anyone ever needed to be beaten with every weapon in the book and off the book its him.
- italirican, on 11/01/2009, -0/+2well he is...
- MikeRiley, on 11/01/2009, -3/+5The article is biased. It snapped at the guy in the first line and we only see two shortened quotes supposedly said by him. I would rather read something that kept it in context before making an opinion on this. Sure, the guy might be no good, but give him the benefit of the doubt for a bit. Things I say come out wrong all the time and this guy might have just been trying to say Michael Jackson makes even more money now than he did when he was alive (you know, something the media's been saying too).
And even if he meant it the way the article said it - who cares? This is gossip, pure and simple. It doesn't belong in the news. - endform, on 11/01/2009, -0/+2Gawker is a gossip site, the page's title is "Gossip from Manhattan and the Beltway to Hollywood and the Valley."
- ScaryUK, on 11/01/2009, -0/+1It's a terrible thing to say especially coming from a family member and so soon after the event...
... but it is is most certainly true just as it is for all the other stars who've died before their time - Holly, Elvis, Lennon, Cobain, Hicks etc etc. The fact is that dying is a very good career move! - Mujokan, on 11/01/2009, -0/+1La Toya said exactly the same thing a few months ago. "He was worth more dead than alive."
This is teaser marketing for a TV show. If they ask you the question in an interview, I guess you'll tell the truth. The NYP says "let that slip..." and "quickly recognized his gaffe and blurted out..." but I guarantee they just took the quote off the TV show web-page and haven't seen the video, due next week. They're trying to outrage you. http://extratv.warnerbros.com/2009/10/joe_jackson_ ...
Not that I give a crap about Joe Jackson, but I don't much like such attempts to generate controversy. Sure we know there's too much obsession about making money off of this, and there hasn't been a lot of class shown, but what else is new? I bet that in context this will seem less outrageous than the Post or Gawker makes it out to be. - gkiltz, on 11/01/2009, -0/+1Only shows that Joe Jackson is behind the times.
That trick worked for Elvis because, in 1977, and for quite some time after, record sales ruled the roost as far as profits were concerned.
Concerts were iffy. Sometimes they made money, as often they didn't. They did generate more record sales. Ditto for Television, and later, video.
Today, record sales, and video are just too small in the total picture for that to work for more than a couple of years.
It'll work for a while, but the business model has shifted too much for it to happen now. -
