- z3rgRush, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28So when you say "Hey Bill, do you have a second?" you actually mean "Hey Bill, can I have $113?"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29admit it. You know you're all a bunch of harry potter fans... Guilty Pleasure...
- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26J.K.'s success story is very inspiring. At one time she was writing from a coffee shop, on welfare. Extremely poor to extremely rich. JK FTW. :)

- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20And? Nothing wrong with Harry Potter. Its quite a captivative series of books.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I prefer stories where extremely rich people become destitute. Then I can point and go "ha ha ha ha ha, ha" in an Eric Cartman voice.
- LordSkywalker, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18Her: one minute. Me: one week.
Damn, I suck. - z3rgRush, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Providing the Microsoft founder Bill Gates, the overall richest man in the world with a net worth of £27bn ($80.8bn), makes a 7 per cent return on investment - the average amount the stock market appreciates in a year - he earns £3,601 a minute.
.....
that's $6,800 a minute *cough* - olegk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8some dude in africa - 6 months
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Yes, it's called well-written and enjoyable fantasy. Imagine that.
- SilverShadow, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8She made it from scratch, can’t knock her for that, although I don't really like the books, I don't mind the films, overall I say well done to her - who wouldn’t want to earn that much a minute? - Apart from the people who make more obviously: P
- mapkinase, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Inspiring for what? I find that stories where destitute people become just normal middle class much more inspiring than those fairy tales.
- Vermifax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Guilty pleasure, my ass!
Harry Potter kicks ass!

- tgmoo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Guilty Pleasure? I am very proudly a Harry Potter fan. I have no problem requesting a day off of work to get the new book or to see the new movie on opening day. I don't feel one bit of shame telling adults that I read the same books that their kids do. Who cares if it's written on a younger reading level? I find the story captivating, and I really care about and horribly dislike some of the characters in it. I cried when Dumbledore died. No other book has EVER made me cry. For a book to capture so many people's hearts... it has to be SOMETHING special... at the very least, to them.
- anarchistuk, on 08/11/2009, -3/+7Reminds me of the Catholic Church....
- mozzer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I'm an unrepentant fanboy.
Like tgmoo, I have no problems discussing the books/movies with other adults and the uninitiated. I can't wait for the final book, there's so many questions waiting to be answered! - jediknickers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4From Mugglenet.com:
J.K. earns $145 every minute
J.K. Rowling has been dubbed by Forbes magazine the world's ninth highest earning celebrity. Apparently, she rakes in a cool $145 per minute, while making $77 per minute last year. Hannah Clark of the magazine, said: "With the $145 she earns every minute, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling could buy more than a few boxes of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, one of the young wizard's favourite sweets."
We should probably take these figures with a grain of salt, especially since Jo brought up the topic on Richard & Judy this past June. "Initially people were reporting, and they still do frequently report much more than I got and I'm not pretending I'm not hugely wealthy because I am. But sometimes they print figures that certainly my accountant wouldn't recognize." - PaulOwen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4J K Rowling in it.
- lokai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"J.K.'s success story is very inspiring. At one time she was writing from a coffee shop, on welfare. Extremely poor to extremely rich. JK FTW. :)"
Who is spouting such lies and propaganda? Rowling has always been fairly well off. She simply used her connections with the high-class publishing crowd to capitalize on other people's work. Just like her books, this "rising from mediocrity" was an elaborate scheme to draw more attention, and money, to herself. - Shivetya, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Yeah, how could we ever reward someone for entertaining us?
glastohead, you can create a doctor with training, you cannot create an good writer.
making idiotic comments about it and inane comparisons in an attempt to diminish it show what a loser you truly are - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dracorex_hogwartsia
- cazabam, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Inaccurate? J.K. Rowling is *paid* $230 a minute - whether she earned it is up for debate
</facetious> ;-) - olegk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27% is very low... kinda sucks
- Strangers, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I'm sure if a doctor saw 7.2 million patients in America alone last year he'd be rich too ;)
- gd007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1genius!
- gd007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i wonder if she is still receiving welfare money. it happens. there goes a lawsuit!
- CrazyForSW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If the $230 a minute is correct, then she makes about $3.83 a second.
- Vermifax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is it me or is JK Rowling.........hot?
I do quite fancy a spirited shag with ponce bird, yeah... - NerdyNinja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought she yanked the story very clearly from some obscure series? I can't remember where I saw that though, can anyone confirm this?

"Give me Stingy English Bitch for $300." - unusernamed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0quote: she can wipe her ass with dollars bills, unless she's full of ***** of course
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
right, especially when she finish the final book of her poor book series - kristenondigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think she set up a charity foundation in england, but if u had millions of dollars would you give it all to charity??? just a hypothetical question ; )
- bollox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I went past her house (in Edinburgh) on the way to the pub, no underwear left hanging on washing line. Unfortunately.
Probably wouldnt fit anyway. - RoboPimp3000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@glastohead - Capitalism isn't about rewarding people for how much we think they're worth. It's a system for distributing resources. It's not perfect, but considering there are far fewer starving people in countries with a capitalist economy, I think it works pretty well.
- wicked9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1she can wipe her ass with dollars bills, unless she's full of ***** of course
- jeffreym, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1WOW! She earns almost as much as Howard Stern.
- duddles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There was some lawsuit with a crazy lady who said she used the word muggle first, but that was dismissed.
Also some people said it was similar to Neil Gaimen's 'Books of Magic' but he said it was more that most fantasy books share very similar tropes. - asfaniz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0why not me???? http://hair-loss-hair.blogspot.com
- NightWriter85, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0JamesWilson writes: J.K.'s success story is very inspiring. At one time she was writing from a coffee shop, on welfare. Extremely poor to extremely rich. JK FTW. :)
Actually she wasn't on welfare and I think she worked as a teacher but she was a single mother. - FunkyViking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't understand why people are so freakin' jealous of her success? If she was well off or poor before she became filthy rich is irrelevant. The bottom line is that she writes well and she appeals to virtually everyone, adults, teenagers and kids. That's the genius behind her books.
If you don't like her books or style of writing, then stay clear. - cody50, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Emma Watson is hott.
- jabelar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No offense but Harry Potter story is very poor fantasy writing. But I will give Rowlings credit for tapping into the market for all those kids who wish their crappy lives would be better if they found out they really had a powerful magical heritage ...
I wish the Harry Potter stories had better themes for kids. Honestly, he is not particularly hard-working, smart, kind, or anything -- everything is just handed to him as he discovers it. No wonder it is popular among teens! - SilverShadow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@Vermifax
Is that because you actually think shes "Hot" or is it the money that you find attractive....
Sorry Had to ask - jcidiotashram, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4i'm a big time harry potter fan. i guess some people in digg think that being harry potter fan is not cool.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2And how much did this bitch donate? As much as Bill Gates? I'm doubtful about that.
