- mileswj, on 07/02/2009, -11/+71So? All the TMZ people are still giant douche bags, and anyone who watches the show is a douche bag.
- buzzd1ggity, on 07/02/2009, -1/+33Harvey Levin may not be the kindest man in the world, but he sure knows how to break a good nip-slip story.
- eastwood24, on 07/02/2009, -2/+28TMZ went from rag to media giant for the same reason half of Americans no longer know how long it takes for the earth to revolve around the sun. Most people would rather be entertained than educated.
- inactive, on 07/02/2009, -0/+25They ought to be sending Absolutelytrue from Digg some flowers and Thank You cards.
- vtbarrera, on 07/02/2009, -2/+23I think that in the context of the celebrity news world, TMZ is king. They've been the premier news source here in Southern California for quite a while, though I completely understand why some people are skeptical about branding them a legitimate news source. After Michael Jackson died, even the largest of the old school media behemoths had to take TMZ seriously as a source for breaking news.
- chadsmith729, on 07/02/2009, -0/+18Maybe I'm out in left field here but I couldn't give two ***** about celebrities. Honestly, shows like TMZ/Access Hollywood and the others out there are absolutely stupid. I have never understood what America's fascination is with them.
- jboitnott, on 07/02/2009, -1/+18Yeah but part of the problem is that they STILL didn't take TMZ seriously. No major news behemoths actually reported that MJ was dead until the LA Times said so. The bias against TMZ still exists .. and will be slow to dissipate. Also, TMZ better not slip up... or a million "I told you so's" will come to the surface.
- dotlizard, on 07/02/2009, -2/+18TMZ has changed the whole tabloid/gossip/paparazzi game. They had it from their very solid source minutes before the death was actually called, but as we know from other reports, the paramedics wanted to call it at the scene but the doctor in attendance was desperately trying to go against the inevitable (who wouldn't? i'd be panicking like mad if I was him).
They have these sources, and this credibility, because they've brought the whole paparazzi thing out in the open, no longer is it random strangers hiding in the bushes.
Heck, I even named my catfish Harvey Levin. - neoform, on 07/02/2009, -0/+15No, TMZ has gone from gossip rag to gossip rag. They're trivial trash news.
- dmoffitt, on 07/02/2009, -0/+15Funny, I still thought it was a Gossip Rag?
- tekism, on 07/02/2009, -0/+15How did they do it? Lots of idiots out there to gobble up news on what Britney Spears is doing rather than reading on more serious matters. Obviously there is a demand for this crap.
- EnTaroTassadar, on 07/02/2009, -0/+14I wouldn't say they're a media giant. They specialize in celebrity news. In the field of *celebrity* media, they're a giant. But for media, in general, they're still pretty small time. Until they get their own dedicated cable TV channel instead of a 60-minute slot at 5PM, they're not going to be a giant any time soon.
- 7m7uf, on 07/02/2009, -0/+9Yes.
- apexracing, on 07/02/2009, -1/+10Buried for celebrity idiocy. I would double-bury if that was possible.
- primatage, on 07/02/2009, -0/+8Yes they should.
- avianeddy, on 07/02/2009, -0/+8gotta hand it to their "investigative journalism"
which is seriously lacking in the established
media.... but WHAT are they reporting? Gossip
it's still ***** in MY book - lead2thehead, on 07/02/2009, -0/+6More like a giant gossip rag. I don't think that stalking celebrities qualifies you as being a member of the media.
- shnuffy, on 07/02/2009, -1/+6My favorite is that jacked broad with long blonde hair.
- chrisduser, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4The wanting be entertained part reminds me of the Roman Empire.
- flny007, on 07/02/2009, -1/+5... and people who try to defend other douchebags by overplaying the Stereotype card.
- absolutelytrue, on 07/02/2009, -1/+5We knew to take them seriously when the news broke though, didn't we, Victor? :)
- DCstewieG, on 07/02/2009, -2/+6Am I the only one who thinks he has the world's most punchable face?
- atroxodisse, on 07/02/2009, -1/+5People who speak in metaphors can shampoo my crotch.
- chockster, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4Yeah, Bristol Community College are definitely going up in the world.
- mandarin, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4Media Giant my ass
- krispykreams, on 07/02/2009, -1/+5***** TMZ
- BaldMonkey, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Still a gossip rag.
- DRNOOO, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3All TMZ does is wash , rinse , repeat stories that you can read on the net long before it hits TMZ !
TMZ will put up a Sheep has a a 5th leg and it hangs out it's neck and how Lindsy lohen has 3 dicks in her over the weekend and some old fart Hollywood type from the 70's ( now in his 70's ) is eating a junior Whopper in his car !
and now they are classed as a Media Giant !
This is why the U.S and it's youth are ***** !!! TMZ has only been on the air since the end of 2007 !
Worry about what 15min famers are up to turning them into prime time spot light specials 24/7 due to the shear volume of retards that tune in to these nobodies and never was ! - mogebier, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3I feel dirty when I scan past the late night TMZ show.
I also lose a few IQ points. - mlvassallo, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3TMZ has a ***** TV show and has had one for a while now. They aren't and never were tiny. I, however, wish they didn't exist.
- trouble916, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3The article even says it. They posted the story before he was even officially declared dead. Why aren't they being called out for that? Why aren't the " " legitimate news agencies that quoted TMZ as a source being called out for it?
The problem is it's easy in the web journalism world to leap to a conclusion like that. If you're right you're the hero, if you're wrong you just update the page with "Oops, we jumped the gun". - chadsmith729, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3I would triple-bury if that was possible.
- scoottie, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Its still a gossip rag, its just a giant media gossip rag.
- MoundOfManure3, on 07/02/2009, -3/+6how does breaking one story make you a media giant?
- Tubal22, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Media Giant? meh.
I do check it every day. But I take what I read with a grain of salt. - thedez, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3They got lucky. There still not a reputable news source.
- haasertime, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2365 da.....hey, it's Lindsay Lohan!
- TheBadWolf, on 07/02/2009, -2/+4Unless you spend every moment of every goddamn day studying, which you clearly don't, then you're a blatant hypocrite.
- arthursk, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Whenever I see TMZ I still think of the old pirated movies I used to download
- sockpuppets, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Absolutely true.
- JimmyDushku, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Nope, they all source TMZ and other actual media giants.
- JazLive, on 07/11/2009, -0/+2TMZ helps rehab bad holywood public display. They have done so well, they have to create havoc to compete with Jerry Springer's legit guests.
- Cowboy1015, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2you mean tabloid giant?
- InfamousAtheist, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2They're a whole lot closer to gossip rag than media giant... I had to bury the article as inaccurate.
- inactive, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Maybe if on the show, they weren't such giant douchebags.
- schtick01101, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2You guys are so wrong. Everyone with half a brain knows the Sun revolves around the Earth. That was a trick question.
- p51d007, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2TMZ is the 24/7 MJ channel
- inactive, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2so how long does it take
- Snuffalutagus, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2If they did in fact post the news 6 minutes before he was pronounced dead, this only proves that they are still the little gossip site that fires the gun before loading it with bullets.
- Mayday408, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Why? Elaborate please
