Google Translate bug mixes up Heath Ledger, Tom Cruise
news.com — a rather odd bug in the Google Translate software was found: its English-to-Spanish translator converts the name of the actor Heath Ledger, who died tragically on Tuesday, to the name of another actor--Tom Cruise. So if you enter in "I will miss Heath Ledger," Google Translate will come back with "Voy a perder Tom Cruise."

Not that I wish death upon Tom Cruise, he's too damn entertaining.
- Rikushix, on 01/25/2008, -19/+49That's a cruel thing to say, even it's Tom Cruise. I can count on one hand people that I genuinely wish death upon. Shame on all of you that are digging him up.

- bobertf, on 01/25/2008, -3/+2Google's close. A lot of loan words from English to Spanish become verbs by adding -ar or -ear to the stem, particularly technology words (i.e., emailar). I googled "diggear" and, sure enough, there appear to be uses of it on Spanish-language sites. It would be conjugated like a regular -ar verb, so the imperative would be "diggea" (informal), "diggee" (formal) or "diggear" (impersonal, like on a sign). I didn't include plural forms since the option is essentially presented to a single user at a time.
- cesclaveria, on 01/25/2008, -1/+2sorry but where have you heard/read "emailar", that is definitely a new one for me.
- bobertf, on 01/25/2008, -1/+1D'oh! I must have made that up in my head or something. I'd digg myself down if I could. (Could've sworn I saw it once though...)
- ElGigi, on 01/25/2008, -1/+1'emailar' is not used... i've heard/read 'mailear' but is not very used.

- ElGigi, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2'Diggea este articulo' is correct in spanish for 'Digg this story'
although "cuento" and "historia" are correct translation also (may be considered as synonyms), in the context the better translation is "artículo". 'Cuento' is more used for 'fairy tale' and 'historia' for 'history'.

- wolfofwar, on 01/25/2008, -0/+1not really, because he did it to himself.
Its not tragic when some clown kills themselves. Infact, it's ignorant, to his kid, as she now has to grow up without a father, because he was feeling a tad depressed
