So, far all we know, those Kenyan men could have had sex with 995 non-HIV positive women, then had sex with 5 HIV positive women. If we had a 100% HIV contraction rate, then our overall figure (which was what the research quoted) would still be 0.5%, but your risk of contracting HIV from an HIV positive person would be 100%.
