- TitaniumWarrior, on 07/17/2009, -0/+36To be fair Lucas doesn't just get money from his movies, he also gets money for every movie that uses ILM for special effects. Also i'm sure he get's a lot for Lucasarts, Skywalker Sound, all that jazz.
- ScottMcIntyre, on 07/17/2009, -1/+24The financial force is strong with this one...
- bbtrev, on 07/17/2009, -0/+22basically the amount of time it takes the earth to revolve around the sun. roughly 365.24 days.
- DanDotOrg, on 07/17/2009, -0/+16Seinfeld re-runs air on multiple stations like 4 times/day, and they have for years. I'm assuming he gets royalties for not only acting in every episode, but writing and producing them too.
Oh, and the DVD sales.
Plus, the brief SeinfeldVision experiment by NBC, where they super-imposed his likeness into all of the popular TV shows. - ShingoEX, on 07/17/2009, -1/+17Last Crusade and Willow were *****? Remind me not to listen to your opinions anymore.
- irkalla, on 07/17/2009, -1/+16"why are their movies still such sucky, shameless cash grabs?"
I'm confused. Don't they make so much money BECAUSE their movies are such sucky, shameless cash grabs? - phyx726, on 07/17/2009, -0/+14wtf tyler perry
- Crazyredivan, on 07/17/2009, -0/+9"Moichendising!"
- damnshoes, on 07/17/2009, -0/+8because he's Seinfeld?
- IKORKYI, on 07/17/2009, -1/+9if it's entertaining and its a sequel to a previous 3 or 4 smash hits you've made in the past
- lolwatermelon, on 07/17/2009, -0/+8I don't think George needs you to lend him $50.
Unless you meant you wanted to BORROW $50? - Spire3660, on 07/17/2009, -0/+8Get back to us when you've founded a company even CLOSE to what ILM has accomplished, or set the new standard for movie sound systems(THX). Did I mention he helped invent the motion control camera? WHile I agree that I dont love his most recent works, I still have great respect for him, unlike you fly by night 'fans'
- ShingoEX, on 07/17/2009, -1/+9Well, if you put it that way, completely ignoring the fact it's a sequel to an established franchise known the world over...
- davdev, on 07/17/2009, -0/+8Yeah, it seems way to low.
- babyheadout, on 07/17/2009, -0/+7and the reason why I have to endure the G-Force trailer this summer.
- inkswamp, on 07/17/2009, -0/+7LOL! I love commentators and industry critics who crap on George Lucas because they don't like his latest films. Lucas's pre-Star Wars career alone would be enough to secure his place as a great director (i.e., American Graffiti, THX-1138, his involvement in Apocalypse Now and other projects, etc.) but add in the original Star Wars films, ILM, Pixar and a dozen other innovations in the art and process of filmmaking and it puts him on a level well beyond anything some hack writing for a grammar-challenged, second-tier website could ever dream of doing.
So give me a *****' break already.
BTW, it's a well known fact that lots of extremely wealthy people donate money to charity secretly so as not to get inundated with people and organizations begging for cash. Prove to me that Lucas isn't doing good things with all that cash before trashing him... or anyone else for that matter. - samoan27, on 07/17/2009, -0/+7Blaxploitation didn't die in the '70s.
- Joest23, on 07/17/2009, -1/+7No, it wasn't too soon. It was just a ***** joke.
- internetisscary, on 07/17/2009, -1/+7listen, the guy is a smart businessman. i hate most of the stuff he does, but i understand why he does it...$$$
- clickmyface, on 07/17/2009, -0/+5Royalties. Larry David is on there for co-creating, writing, and producing Seinfeld too. He's got Curb Your Enthusiasm still on the air too.
- bigthree, on 07/17/2009, -5/+10so if i make a movie about an old explorer finding glass aliens in the middle of nowhere i can make $170 million?!?!?
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+5Spaceballs the lunchbox!
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -1/+6"Once you’ve made more money than you could ever spend, wouldn’t you want to do something that you can actually be proud of?"
A good example of this is Mark Tremonti, who after making supposedly in excess of $100 million playing guitar with Creed, decided to form Alter Bridge, a band he could be proud of. - DirtPile, on 07/17/2009, -0/+5Why don't they build the whole plane out of the black box? What's the deal?
- TomT127, on 07/17/2009, -0/+5Just look at Michael Bay.
- progolferyo, on 07/17/2009, -1/+5What is Seinfeld doing to make so much money?
- ShingoEX, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4Not to mention merchandise...
- antranetworks, on 07/17/2009, -5/+9Everyone hates on George Lucas.
- DaveBanana, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4Spaceballs The Flamethrower!
- 1ofMany, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4Adam Sandler??????
- GalacticRerun, on 07/17/2009, -0/+4A bit like lots of other big famous directors, actors, bands, etc.
- zanbato, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3Lucas did his good stuff early, then started making money, duh
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+3http://www91.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=a+year
- analogkid01, on 07/17/2009, -3/+6Three words: lowest common denominator.
- sooperdooper, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2I guess all that California has to do is... mug George Lucas?
- lolwatermelon, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2"I meant: lend."
So my first comment applies. George Lucas does not need to borrow $50 from you. - Indecision77, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2But he'd probably take it anyway.
- DBLaise, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2I'm guessing Happy Madison Production. They make at least 3 or 4 of those stupid kind of comedies a year and they usually do pretty well in the box office.
- ShingoEX, on 07/17/2009, -1/+3"There's a difference between fly-by-night fans of a star, and a star crapping on their fans for more money when they don't need it."
So, you'd rather him sell out and only cater to the fans, as opposed to making the stories he wants to do...
Gotcha. - Crazyredivan, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2It's a vicious, self-perpetuating cycle.
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2His show's reruns are syndicated on a LOT of different channels. He gets paid every time it's on.
- Wizardo55, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Wow, the article is almost as long as the Digg description. I feel kind of cheated after visiting the actual site and finding almost nothing more than I knew before leaving digg.com...
- inactive, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Not to mention the formation of several effects houses and a game studio.
Though the Star Wars prequels were decidedly *****, the mans earlier works were genius and is also a hell of a businessman. - 2Pharcyded, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2the sad thing is that lucas IS proud of his work. he just has the world's worst humor.
- hellengineer, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2He created the force just to cover up the dark side of his business empire.
- clickmyface, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2royalties. Which is why Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David are on there still. And probably others.
- bar10dr, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2Listen the guy doesn't do what he does to make great movies, he does it to earn money so he can do what he wants, there's nothing wrong with that.
- tbhurst, on 07/17/2009, -1/+3A year?
- drewt333, on 07/17/2009, -0/+2"Once you’ve made more money than you could ever spend, wouldn’t you want to do something that you can actually be proud of?"
Once you’ve made more money than you could ever spend _in Hollywood_ you have no pride left. - 1807, on 07/17/2009, -2/+4Anyone failing to comprehend how Lucas could make so much money must have forgotten: Star Wars Episode 1-6, THX 1138, American Graffiti, Indiana Jones Series, Land Before Time, Labyrinth, Willow...the list just goes on and on.
