- mikemiller1000, on 10/30/2009, -0/+18Really sad news. I enjoyed "Angela's Ashes" and he seemed like a genuinely good guy.
- doshindude, on 07/20/2009, -1/+19At this rate, by the end of the year, we won't have any celebrities left.
- vikblazin, on 07/20/2009, -0/+9angela's ashes was an awesome book. i was like 13 when i first read it, so i was realizing everything the same confusing way as Frank was.
- readacook, on 07/20/2009, -0/+9If you've read Angela's Ashes and/or Tis, you know that his was not an easy life, but one that was still well-lived.
- eyepennies, on 07/20/2009, -2/+10What's this like the 2000th famous person dead this month?
Brings new meaning to "I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here"... - enrq, on 07/20/2009, -0/+6Worse than the ordinary miserable childhood is the miserable Irish childhood, and worse yet is the miserable Irish Catholic childhood.
- trevormells, on 07/20/2009, -0/+5Wow, I just finished his book last week. RIP
- bstew22, on 07/20/2009, -0/+5Just bought angela's ashes, tis, and teacher man for my dad the other day. they are incredible books to read.
- vault, on 07/20/2009, -0/+4Rest in peace. Very gifted author.
- vikblazin, on 07/20/2009, -1/+5och, hand me a fag, will ya
- Remmiz, on 07/20/2009, -1/+5When a really famous person dies, they always find as many semi-famous people dying to make it seem worse so it seems worse.
- freshcheese2, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3man, very sorry to hear this today. If you haven't already, read Angela's Ashes...or even better, listen to the audiobook read by the author
- Donotsurf, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3You obviously haven't been ill with meningitis before.
- presidentraygun, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3I read his whole series...it is not over rated. Angela's Ashes I read in two nights. The scene where the one 2 year old twin goes looking for his dead brother all over the house.. still kills me.
- keithbelfast, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3RIP Frank McCourt t'was...
- triggerfinger, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3T'is a shame.
- joshuaer, on 07/20/2009, -0/+3Digg needs to make a death notice section, so many deaths posted on in the last 2 weeks.
- rsh28630, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Frank McCourt spoke in Hickory, North Carolina a few years ago. I was fortunate to attend. He was a truly witty, insightful and fascinating man. Listening to him that evening and then later reading Angela's Ashes (Audible.com) was an extraordinary experience I'll always treasure.
- paintballing66, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2What a bad time to be a celebrity. RIP Mr. McCourt.
- Nowheredan, on 07/20/2009, -2/+4"The death has taken place of author Frank McCourt"? Authors deserve better-written obituaries.
- ClarkNoHeart, on 07/20/2009, -1/+3Death is just padding his stats this month.
- noheadhorseman, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1Stuy Teach through and through...
- vainbrian, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1hav'nt read the book but i love the movie. I'm sure the source material is good too.
- Remmiz, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1I had one too many "it seems worse" on there. Oops.
- Eupatorus, on 07/20/2009, -2/+3Good job with the spoilers.
- DickyT83, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1What an intriguing description line.
- kalikao, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1He had an unorthodox style of writing, that was nonetheless cogent and evoked pathos. RIP.
- Joolies, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1It was a legitimate question smartypants
- MrRoberts11, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1A little known fact about him which is also quite ironic is that he never completed high school and thus was never admitted to a bachelors degree program. He convinced the admissions people to accept him to the masters program he attended. Another fact is that his job in the military was training dogs for K-9 units which he strongly attributed a lot of his teaching behaviors.
- lazyslacker, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1The ashes...?
- RichMig, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1RTFB
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1enrq, I'm not too sure about that, I enjoyed my childhood just fine.
- Patzer111, on 07/20/2009, -1/+1Why not? Why can't I judge?
When did judging go out of style? Let's just all agree it's a stupid title for a book and then we can all get on with our lives. He batted .500 I can accept that. - lazyslacker, on 07/20/2009, -1/+1Who was the main character? Umm... Angela?
- ggloria, on 07/20/2009, -0/+0Angela's Ashes was probably the best book I have ever read! You shouldn't judge a book by it's title LOL. Tis was good also but not as good as the first one.
- ryrysofly, on 07/20/2009, -1/+1may your antics of hooking up with farm animals live on forever
- LibertariansLOL, on 07/20/2009, -2/+1GRRRRRRR RELIGION
- DangerMouse9, on 07/20/2009, -2/+1you really think that'll be a bad thing?
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -3/+1Is he going to be cremated?
- WELLDOITLIVE, on 07/20/2009, -3/+1R.I.P. Arthur Ashe
- chessthecat, on 07/20/2009, -4/+2A fine Catholic.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -7/+4och, aye.
- Patzer111, on 07/20/2009, -5/+1FTA: It was around this time when McCourt released his second book, “Tis” which chronicled his life from the time he left Limerick, to when he became a teacher in New York.
The title of that work alone is enough for me to never pick up any of his works. That's the worst title of anything I have ever heard.
He does sound like he was a good person though. - Joolies, on 07/20/2009, -8/+3Is 2 weeks a "long battle"?
