- StigNordas, on 10/07/2008, -0/+32Clint Eastwood is looking a lot like Jane Goodall these days (page 2).
- granolajoe, on 10/07/2008, -1/+32People, please read the article before you go making stock anti-celebrity comments. There is a lot of wisdom from very well-respected and experienced people that aren't just Hollywood celebrities.
Screw it, here's the list of names:
DESMOND TUTU - cleric; antiapartheid activist; winner, 1984 Nobel Peace Prize; winner, 2005 Gandhi Peace Prize

LELLA and MASSIMO VIGNELLI - interior and graphic design team, married 50 years; creators, New York City subway signage; contributors, Grand Central Terminal restoration; winners, more than 130 awards
NELSON MANDELA- civil rights leader; prisoner for 27 years for his antiapartheid work; cowinner, 1993 Nobel Peace Prize; elected South Africa's first freely chosen president (1994-1999)
CLINT EASTWOOD - actor, more than 50 films; director, 29 films, including Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby; winner, 4 Academy Awards
JACQUES PÉPIN - chef; author, 25 cookbooks; founder, American Institute of Wine & Food
JUDI DENCH - actress, more than 100 plays and films, including Shakespeare in Love; winner, 6 Laurence Olivier Awards, 1 Academy Award, 1 Tony Award - cledford, on 10/07/2008, -2/+22The most important thing we can do to try to get out of the mess we've made on this planet is to spend time thinking about the consequences of the choices we make. What did we eat? How was it grown? Did it adversely affect animal welfare?
- ScottMcIntyre, on 10/07/2008, -0/+17I have great admiration for Nelson Mandela who is featured in this list. Part of his inspirational quote makes so much sense.
QFA:"Where people of goodwill get together and transcend their differences for the common good, peaceful and just solutions can be found, even for those problems that seem most intractable." - prunch, on 10/07/2008, -2/+17aaah the wisdom
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -1/+15Well I'm glad to see that Lindsay Lohan wasn't asked to impart her own version of wisdom.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+13if you had read the article you would've seen that it wasn't limited
to "hollywood celebs" in asking to offer wisdom.
what's more, why is it that a lot of people actually DO want to listen
to what Hollywood has to say? and why would a guy like Clint Eastwood
be lumped in with other Hollywood crazies like the dumb socialite brigade? - reyalp, on 10/07/2008, -14/+27Eight random people tell me ***** I don't care about.
- kplo, on 04/01/2009, -0/+9yeah, it's amazing how many people just go off without reading...
rtfa, mofos! - amitlu, on 10/07/2008, -0/+7Needs more discussion about HGH as an anti-aging therapy!
- StevieJanowski, on 04/02/2009, -0/+7Judi Dench - "I get sillier as I get older" - Sounds like she may be losing it.
- casspa, on 10/07/2008, -9/+16Why are celebrities so convinced that a career of acting qualifies them as being able to provide pearls of wisdom?
- guyro, on 10/07/2008, -0/+7Desmond Tutu's a smart guy... I love the way he conveys his enthusiasm.
- WhereAmI, on 10/07/2008, -0/+7If this was a bunch of diggers doing the same thing there is a 99% chance no one will pay attention.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6awesome!!
- ccb621, on 10/08/2008, -0/+6She plays M.
- Jabrams2, on 10/07/2008, -3/+9The same question I've been asking myself for years. Ok, yes, you guys are very entertaining to watch on TV or the movies, but that does NOT mean I give a ***** about you think outside of that world.
- TalSiach, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6Loved the Quote by Jane Goodall, deep stuff!
- Jasper710, on 10/07/2008, -1/+6my grandparents just tell me go to church.
- dse78759, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5That's a cool idea. It must appeal to baby boomers who are turning 60 and who's kids won't listen to them.
- JohnnyQwest, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5a good read, but I don't know if I'd call most of them celebrities like...Jane Goodall?
- perkonis, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5I was expecting at least a couple of them to yell at him to get off their lawn, but there was some surprisingly good advice in there.
- neio, on 10/08/2008, -0/+4Clint still looks bad ass.
- MacBookForMe, on 10/07/2008, -1/+5I love Judi, she is amazing (especially as ruthless Miss M) and she still smokes:)
- xbanned, on 10/07/2008, -1/+5Judi Dench "I get sillier as I get older, so I don't know what wisdom means. I can only pass on something that I've been acquainted with and let whoever it is pick the bones out of it"
This is a humble person. - carnitas, on 10/07/2008, -3/+6Judi Dench, aka Q in the james bond movie, said it all
- AmyVernon, on 10/08/2008, -0/+3I struggled with whether to use that word; it was the headline the magazine used. But "famous people" or "really cool people whose names you'd know" both were kinda long. ;-)
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -1/+4Thats what I was gonna say.
- ElectricSpeed, on 10/08/2008, -0/+3Napoleon Hill did this in the early 1900s. As you may remember, Andrew Carnegie told Hill about a formula for success that Carnegie said was used by all the leading businessmen and inventors of the late 19th and early 20th century. Carnegie asked Hill to go out and confirm the application of the formula by interviewing the 500 richest Americans (and others). Some people interviewed include:
* Henry Ford, Ford Motor Company
* William Wrigley, Wrigley Chewing Gum
* George Eastman, Eastman Kodak
* Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of the United States
* Wilbur Wright, The Wright Brothers
* William Jennings Bryan, Secretary of State
* Charles M. Schwab, Charles Schwab Financial Services
* King Gillette, The Gillette Company
* John D. Rockefeller, The first billionaire
* Thomas A. Edison, Inventor
* Woodrow Wilson, 28th President of the United States
* William Howard Taft, 27th President of the United States
* Alexander Graham Bell, Inventor
Hill published his findings in a book entitled "Think and Grow Rich." See http://jamesthornton.com/writing/carnegie-secret.h ... - twertyto, on 10/07/2008, -2/+5Summary: The transition into the zombie underworld doesn't take as long as most people make it out to be.
- TheObviousChild, on 10/08/2008, -0/+3Bill Murray - "Don't drive on the train tracks."
I happen to agree with that one. - Kidsturk, on 10/08/2008, -0/+3"Look at everything, know everything, develop a critical mind. History, theory, and criticism are the three fundamental elements to grow in a professional life. History will provide you with the tools for understanding. Theory will be the philosophy of why you're doing it. And criticism will provide you with the ability to continually master what you are doing. Play with these tools and you can do pretty good things."
I'm an engineer. I've had some pretty sucky deadlines recently. I've had to forego social events, hanging out with my wife, weekend plans. But I've always thought that what I am doing is good. I'm evaluating all these things. The norm. The ideal. The possible. My hopes.
In what world is this not worth it? We will proceed. We will improve. We can make a difference. These word and Clint's make me feel good about stretching my own comfort boundaries to further my trade's.
Kudos, great post, good call on Digg. - batmanz, on 10/08/2008, -0/+3No Morgan Freeman??!?!??!?!?
- gameyharp, on 10/08/2008, -0/+3Dugg for something about celebrities that doesn't have to do with dancing or reality TV.
- mcsenget, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2or to tell us who to vote for
- AmyVernon, on 10/08/2008, -1/+3I don't know what the hell you're talking about, but I dugg you up for zombies.
- innocentsinner, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2Esquire magazine does this every month.
- IceOfDiamonds, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2Who is Stephen Hawking voting for, is what i want to know.
I want to know who the greedy wall street jagoff is voting for. Then theres the people that turn a profit from public manipulation, i wanna know who they are and who THEYRE voting for? And I want reasons. ACTUAL ***** REASONS! - BingoPower, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2Due to the layout of the article, I had trouble connecting the gray-haired people to the correct entry.
- DigitalRambler, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2Great article wished I could of dugg it twice
- twertyto, on 10/07/2008, -2/+4What lv cleric? any epics?
- Straw, on 10/08/2008, -1/+3Read the article maybe.
You could have opened the link and seen who the people were, in the time it took you to embarrass yourself with your ignorance.
Talk about out of touch. - tj241, on 10/09/2008, -0/+2Just bought this book on Amazon. It's wonderful and inspiring and full of great advice. Recommended!
- IceOfDiamonds, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2Yes, clint eastwood is actually the cyborg of which arnold schwarzeneggers skin was covering in order to KILL SARAH CONNOR!
- bubba9999, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2She's pretty well known for being a merry prankster on the set.
- obxjdt, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2Some how I get the feeling you'd eat the sh!t in the pool too....
- blinker265, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2i think its just you
- inactive, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2Wrong consonant.
- whyisntcakesin, on 10/08/2008, -1/+2I wasn't aware that Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela were grammy winners... and coke heads at that! Perhaps you should make future attempts to distance yourself from the summation your provided for the 'celebrities' involved, rather than making yourself a direct parallel to them.
- DarkerMaster, on 10/08/2008, -1/+2Is it just me, or does Clint Eastwood look like the cover pic on the T2 DVD's?
