- peterjmag, on 08/08/2008, -3/+52Are we capitalizing "Blacks" now?
- veriix, on 08/08/2008, -1/+49Dear god, they colored her hair too!
- TecK415, on 08/08/2008, -3/+39Why is a tabloid consistently on the front page of digg?
- geoken, on 08/08/2008, -2/+37They also make their models with really white skin look darker. As a relatively pale guy am I supposed to be offended?
In case people haven't noticed, the sole purpose of the fashion/make-up industry is to make people feel like there's something wrong with you. If you're white they tell you white is ugly, if you're black they tell you black is ugly. - dukeeeey, on 08/09/2008, -2/+17ask mrbabyman since he and his pals choose the content for digg
- maxbowman, on 08/09/2008, -1/+15Its really more a result of the lighting they use....they want to show how smooth their models skin is so they squeeze just about as much lights in the studio space as it can electrically handle...now do they lighten up pics a bit?... prolly, but they are washed out from the start.
- maxyRO, on 08/08/2008, -3/+17Is that what happened to MJ?
- DeskFlyer, on 08/08/2008, -6/+18Buried as "Who Give a *****".
- Shigglyboo, on 08/08/2008, -9/+19the chick on the left looks better that the chick on the right. who's beyonce again? what a horrible name...
- bdubatdi, on 08/08/2008, -2/+10so wait
you mean the pictures of models and actresses arent really what they look like?
man...and yesterday someone told me smoking was bad...i thought it had vitamin c and stuff - KibblesnBitts, on 08/09/2008, -3/+11Oh my God! Companies are changing how people look in order to sell their products? I'm dumbfounded and disappointed!
- zadadka, on 08/08/2008, -4/+12Bloody Daily Mail.
Original article : http://www.nypost.com/seven/08072008/news/national ... - peterjmag, on 08/08/2008, -2/+9You do realize that the New York Post is just as much of a sensationalist tabloid as the Daily Mail is, right?
- brentinkc, on 08/09/2008, -3/+10I've always thought "Blacks" was a little unappealing. I much prefer black people, white people, red people, and the like.
- vogelshock, on 08/09/2008, -0/+6There is some debate. The classical rule is not to capitalize "black" when referring to race. However, the emerging rule is the opposite. See the American Psychological Association style manual at http://www.docstyles.com/apacrib.htm#Capital Referring to a race with a lowercase letter is often viewed as a pejorative.
- veriix, on 08/08/2008, -3/+9and what happened to "the"?
- tehxen3, on 08/09/2008, -1/+7He got photoshopped irl.
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -5/+10she's never been more than an empty slate anyway, zero charisma
- wwwonka, on 08/09/2008, -1/+6I think there is something larger going here. That being the massive digital photo manipulation of females to the point of "creating" something so fake looking, so unreal that the original subject loses all sense of humanity and imperfections.
Give me the flaws and imperfections of a real woman anytime.
http://tomjulio.com - FlaG8r, on 08/09/2008, -0/+5I remember this time when I didn't care about an article, so didn't open it, read it, or comment on it. I figured I'd be a real moron to comment on an article I didn't even care about.
- agjimenez, on 08/09/2008, -2/+7How about just "people"?
- Vindicoth, on 08/09/2008, -2/+6She looks better white.
- Typhoon2009, on 08/09/2008, -1/+5"The actress and singer's contract with L'Oreal is worth £2.3million over five years.
For that, she has to work only ten days a year, turning up for photoshoots and promotional and personal appearances."
Jesus christ. - Stavrosian, on 08/09/2008, -0/+4I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it looked more like excessive lighting than digital trickery.
- Peko, on 08/09/2008, -0/+3Maybe. But it's a UK article. Where is/was this ad targeted?
- dbhalla, on 08/09/2008, -0/+3Or maybe it was just one guy who edited the add
- DarrylWatts, on 08/09/2008, -0/+3Your subconscious perception of beauty cares...
- Luke1h7, on 08/09/2008, -0/+3By the way I don't think you should really eat *****. But, honestly, just because someone takes the time to say "who cares" doesn't mean they care. It means they are bored and don't have anything else to do at the moment. Like me. That's why I'm posting here, for instance.
- CleoQKazoo, on 08/09/2008, -0/+3If your not black you can't possibly understand the effects of this ad. Almost all the "fine" or black women that are considered beautiful are light skinned: Beyonce, Halle Berry, Rhianna, Vivica A. Fox, etc. It makes young girls feel they have to have light skin and straight hair to be beautiful. So we have women in Africa in the Carribean and here using bleaching creams to lighten their skin despite to skin diseases they cause, just so they can feel prettier. You have no idea what its like when you have girls that are told to stay away from bright colors because it emphasizes the darkness of their skin, or girl who refuse to go to the beach for fear of getting "blacker". It things like this that make it hard for us to feel beautiful in our own skin. It may not seem like a big deal to some of you but it is just one part of a much larger much more sensitive issue.
- wilhoitm, on 08/09/2008, -0/+3If you capitalize "Whites" then you should capitalize "Blacks"! Can't we all just get along?
- jeexbit, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2"Is this ad a slap in the face to Blacks?"
In a word, no.
And for what it's worth, she doesn't look "white" in either picture and she's beautiful in both. - libertao, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2If the people making the ads at L'Oreal were racist they wouldn't hire a black person to be their spokesmodel!
Not to mention, ever heard of tanning booths, fake tanning lotions, etc? Everyone wants that light brown-tan look, from whites to blacks. - BlueSun420, on 08/09/2008, -2/+4this is stupid. advertisers photoshop white people's complexions to look tanner all the time. does that mean that they are racist against white people? no, it's just an attempt to make the skin look better for aesthetic reasons. it's not racist.
- Gndoab, on 08/09/2008, -1/+3She is hot either way...what does it matter?
- Dralite, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2No one cares and as long as the bitch is getting paid, I'm sure she doesn't care either
- Pramma, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2He whitewashed himself.
- Pramma, on 08/09/2008, -1/+3Since when do we take ques on how to speak from the American Psychological Association?
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2This is way more important than the situation with Russia and Georgia...
- libertao, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2They pay for diggs? I can't see any other good reason why the top Russia-Georgia news submission was Daily Mail.
- worldchanger, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2Clorox.
- DivineMonkey, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2Maybe there's been an influx of females on Digg o.O
- Pramma, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1For the same reason they're at the checkout aisles at supermarkets.
- Pramma, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1Psh, even if that were true, better an empty slate than a crotch-flashing skank.
- asspants, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1DUGG FOR MISTER BABY MAN UR AWESOME
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -1/+2Wanna see skin bleaching look at any black magazine cover. They cake the makeup on in truckloads.
- elithebest, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1She hates being black anyway(Like most black people do including myself).
- vogelshock, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1We don't. There are no "capitalized" words in speech. There is also no such thing as "ques." However, we do take conventions from the APA, AMA, Bluebook, Oxford Press, U.S. Gov. Printing Office and others when writing.
- vogelshock, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1The market has "decided" anything in an industrialized nation since the invention of television. Media pushes vogue, not vice-versa. Believing otherwise is just what the corporate man wants you to believe -- that you're "in control."
- DownIsTheNewUp, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1Actually, yes. Whites have the option of naturally tanning their skin. Unless they are ginger or albino. The reverse is not true at all.
