"And what happens when nothing changes in Darfur in the next week or so, just like nothing's changed in Darfur for the past several years?"
The whole article is so on the spot, I couldn't put it in better words. - inactive, on 04/21/2009, -1/+20It's easy to lose a hunger strike. The rival only has to ignore you long enough.
- offrdbandit, on 04/22/2009, -5/+20If you are going to be anorexic fabricate a good excuse, I guess.
- kdmkdmkdm, on 04/22/2009, -2/+17Woody Allen is always sick with worry.
- donsnyc, on 04/22/2009, -0/+9Do you guys know what is happening in Darfur? Someone else made a comment on who is Darfur.
The Darfur conflict has been described as the clash between the Arab and the black African Sudanese. The Arab part of the population are mainly nomadic, the black African counterparts are sedentary farmers. Decades of drought and competition for natural resources such as land and water have been in contention for many generations. The conflict is primarily between the government backed Janjaweed militia against the rebel forces of the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army and the Justice and Equality Movement rebels.
The militia began targeting not only the rebels, but the civilians of specific ethnic groups. They killed the men, young and old. Systematically raped the women and sliced open the womb of pregnant women in case they are carrying a male.
The United Nations have estimated that as many as 400,000 died from violence and disease. As many as 2.5 million people have been displaced by the conflict. The Sudanese government have been accused of hiding information by jailing, executing witnesses and tampering of evidence, hiding the dead in mass graves to further hide and distort evidence.
In January of 2005, the Security council declared the situation in Darfur do not amount to genocide, although it has alleged that some individuals, including government officials committed “acts with genocidal intent”. - xDynaBlade, on 04/22/2009, -5/+14Who is Mia Farrow?
- Mystlyfe, on 04/21/2009, -2/+10I was hoping for more, well, Comedy in a blog from Comedy Central.
- sdipaola, on 04/22/2009, -2/+10what kind of people are you - at least she is trying to do something
it is so easy ( as the author does) to make fun and light of it all
imagine for a second ( can you) that you were born into different circumstances and were now a young kid in darfur - wondering how you are going to make it , seeing others family members dieing, wondering what the rest of the world was like and if some people might help you, are they too busy, poor like you ... no some are trying to help others ... they are just to busy entertaining themselves in general ... and some are using your situation (and huts) to entertain themselves more - sad - inactive, on 04/22/2009, -5/+13Dear Mia,
Thank you so much for your misguided, uneducated, ignorant, self-righteous, and all out psychotic concern!
Signed,
-an African baby dying of AIDS - steelreserve211, on 04/21/2009, -4/+11I'm sure Woody Allen is sick with worry.
- effer, on 04/22/2009, -0/+7So is Comedy Central going to do something about the situation in Darfur?
- inactive, on 04/21/2009, -5/+11Who is Mia Farrow and who is Darfur?
- JasonHaley, on 04/22/2009, -1/+7Considering that a few people on Comedy Central's site are asking "What's Darfur?" I think she brought attention to Darfur. And the fact that they and we are talking about it.. she's accomplishing her goal.. so she has some clout after all.
Bury me all you want but you can't deny that Mia has made you think of Darfur's problems. - k3rfuffl3, on 04/22/2009, -3/+9Buried for stupid title. One person's blog doesn't represent the entire network's opinion.
- inactive, on 04/21/2009, -3/+9Yeah... and she totally should have had a Woody Allen/Soon-Yi threesome.
Selfish bitch. - inactive, on 04/22/2009, -4/+10These aren't the days of Ghandi. Nobody gives a ***** about anyone that refuses to eat.
- rainman21, on 04/21/2009, -2/+7She looks like she already starved to death.
- wakeupsticky, on 04/21/2009, -5/+10Starving herself, or starved for attention? ***** Mia Farrow.
- Brentnauer, on 04/22/2009, -0/+5Take On Mia.
I love a-ha. - steelreserve211, on 04/22/2009, -0/+5Lol! Touche' kdmkdmkdmkdmkdmkdm!
- mooshcala, on 04/22/2009, -0/+5People commenting that Mia Farrow hasn't done any "real" activism for Africa don't know what the ***** they're talking about.
From Wikipedia:
"Farrow has been a high profile advocate for children's rights, working to raise funds and awareness for children in conflict affected regions, predominantly in Africa. She has traveled to Darfur three times to advocate for Darfuri refuges. Since 2007, Farrow has been involved with the Dream for Darfur campaign, which has made a major effort to focus public attention on China's support for the government of Sudan, with a special focus on the upcoming 2008 Summer Olympics, to be held in Beijing. Swayed by Farrow's campaign to pressure him, on February 12, 2008 filmmaker Steven Spielberg withdrew as an artistic adviser to the 2008 Olympics broadcast. During the Olympics broadcast, Farrow televised via the internet from a Sudanese refugee camp to highlight China's involvement in the region.
Farrow has set up her own website, www.miafarrow.org, which features a guide on how to get involved with Darfur activism, along with her photographs and blog entries from Darfur, Chad, and the Central African Republic.
On April 21, 2009, Farrow announced that she would begin a water-only fast on April 27, to show solidarity with the people of Darfur. Farrow's spokesman said that she would stick with the fast "as long as possible", which doctors estimate will be about three weeks."
She is extremely dedicated to raising awareness about Darfur. She's not fasting because she wants attention for herself; it's because she's been trying to direct attention the the situation in Darfur and is desperate to get help to the suffering people there. She deserves respect for her commitment to the cause. - michaelrsa, on 04/21/2009, -3/+7The only way we can stop the violence in Darfur is with violence. We've talked and talked and talked and talked this violence nowhere. We have changed nothing. The only thing that will work is a military occupation of Darfur. That's not going to happen because nobody has the balls to take any actual action. Even those who critize the inaction will not even consider what really has to be done.
- soupeh, on 04/22/2009, -0/+4+1 just for being a very odd thing to say.
- DaviDTC, on 04/22/2009, -0/+4Surprisingly this is the first I have heard about it. Surprisingly cause this is digg and it was posted on huffingtonpost which means we should of all known about it.
- ATL, on 06/20/2009, -5/+9What a dumb bitch.
- Wiggle987, on 04/22/2009, -1/+4Wow.
- bjs3171, on 04/22/2009, -0/+3Also, donating some money, or cans of food, or even building ***** Fridays, that takes rocks for currency, won't really help the situation. Sending a 100 man military strike force into the area will.
- cfuse, on 04/22/2009, -0/+3The person Angelina Jolie wants to be when she grows up.
- noino1966, on 04/22/2009, -1/+4If Mandela did it, I maybe would give a *****...but Mia ***** Farrow...you have to be kidding me sir.
- cyrix, on 04/22/2009, -0/+3Darfur? I don't even know what the ***** that is.
That sounds like a t shirt company to me. - TheUngod, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2Some anorexic chick
- LordBalderdash, on 04/22/2009, -6/+8mia farrow is cool as hell and anybody who thinks she's just another hollywood idiot looking for attention doesn't know anything about her.
- jumpenjack, on 04/22/2009, -3/+5hahaha no i disagree, i knew all about darfur before this-just like all the politicians knew about darfur before this.the worlds a sucky place, her not eating isn't going to change anything, do something in darfur if you want change in darfur
- Astark, on 04/22/2009, -1/+3Why don't all these movie stars get together and send a few boxcars of AKs to Darfur, along with a few million rounds of ammo? That would help those people a lot more than someone in CA missing a few meals.
- JasonHaley, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2"I don't mean to be an ***** — it kinda just comes naturally to me "
Unlike humor. - staticfire, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2dunno why your getting dug down its a legitimate question
wikipedia says:

Guess you were wrong :) - inactive, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2Milk it for lulz.
- Wiggle987, on 04/22/2009, -3/+5Don't know who she is, so going on a hunger strike isn't going to make me say "oh crap Mia! I better go save the tragedies and people who are actually starving in Darfur so you can get a spot on a talk show to spout verbal diarrhea about how noble your cause was"
Think I kinda deviated on myself a bit there. - bjs3171, on 04/21/2009, -4/+6just so you all know, the problem in Darfur is more the genocide of a race of people than it is the starving of children that results from all their parents being dead. but by all means, carry on insulting someone who gives a *****.
i give her 5 days, though. - JimmyTheClam, on 04/22/2009, -0/+1Nobody remembers Bobby Sands?
In 10th grade I cited him as an example to my principal why I wasn't going to apologize to my English teacher for calling her a ***** bitch in class and that I was taking the 3-day suspension.
Over twenty five years later I still say she deserved it. - newtondave, on 04/22/2009, -7/+8I guess *you* don't want to help, 'cuz you're sitting around making snarky comments about someone else doing what they think is right.
You go, girl. - ZachsMind, on 05/25/2009, -0/+1I for one plan to eat nothing but junk food for the duration of Farrow's fast, in honor of her efforts. The fact I eat nothing but junk food anyway is superfluous lies and the people spreading such lies are degenerates. BINGE FOR DARFUR!
- kenvsryu, on 04/22/2009, -1/+2http://www.zazzle.com/save_darfur_burger_tshirt-23 ...
- jeffstevens199, on 04/22/2009, -0/+1***** Mia Farrow!
- jeffstevens199, on 04/22/2009, -0/+1+2 - You made me laugh OUT LOUD! haha!
- TheUngod, on 04/22/2009, -0/+1I think she's looking for an excuse to lose weight without being called anorexic. Seriously wtf is a hunger strike going to do to improve Darfur? Maybe if someone who was actually famous did this it'd help, but this is Mia Farrow. Nobody even knows who she is anymore.
- fqwgads, on 04/22/2009, -0/+1i think her intention is good; it's just that her actions are tremendously misguided.
as much as everyone's slamming her about this, it made us pay attention to darfur, and maybe that's all she wants.
you can call BS, but hey, it's better than doing nothing. i'd rather have B-list celebs that pretend to care than have celebs that spend their money on coke and hookers, but that's just me. -
