- TheAstronomer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+45That's 100 Million
- jus1haz2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31US $99,999,999.00
I wonder if the ebay accounts are legit? I bet they are just hacked accounts bidding extremly high - Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27$99,999,999.00? Too rich for my blood. I would have stopped at $80,000,000.00
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28Better not let Steve Wynn close to it. He already took out that 140 million dollar Picasso with his elbow.
- dirtyhipster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24lmao
- JasonHoekstra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2341 minutes later and it's up to $1m US. At the end of the nine day auction, this portrait will yield enough to save ALL of the children.
- vudicarus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22lol. At first I was sad to hear the painting will be gone, till I read what will replace it: This painting "will be replaced with a new portrait, which depicts Stephen standing by his fireplace, in front of a previous portrait, in front of a previous portrait."
man. the bidding is ridiculous. $99,999,999.00 I thought ebay had a system to outlaw such shinanigans. (excuse my ebay ignorance. i've never used it) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20No, the eBay fees + the PayPal fees will eat most of that up.
- everfalling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18100 mil. yeah right. good going losers, this is for charity, not 'lets see who can bid the highest amount for ***** and giggles'
he's gonna have to end up relisting it. - Chort, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17For $80 Million it better pleasure me sexually as well.
- gamefreak42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15omg... please tell me that was a joke.
- grimman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Until, of course, eBay/Paypal steps in and locks his account.
- vudicarus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13unfortunately, i guess this is what happens after training the rabid colbert fans to play pranks on website voting and wikipedia. something serious doesn't get taken seriously.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11It's only been on for about a hour so far, already 112 bids, and $100,000
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11jesus man, chill out with all that crap. nobody here wants to see your nonsense
- curtissthompson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I'm rarely ever even browse through eBay, but was wondering from someone who knows...what eBay's policy is toward bid fraud...and how that all works and plays in to the bidding process?
- ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Really? I thought he was going to pay that much ... WTF
- didoubleg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I hope Stephen goes to his house and askes him for the money
- Quiwi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Parent post is a list of bids up to 80mil (long list is looong)
unhide if you dare XD - mv10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8http://contact.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ReturnUserEmail&requested=psolem&redirect=0&ReturnUserEmail=&iid=290040269306
He (psolem) is the person responsible from ruining the auction for the kids..
Send him messages telling him how much of a jackass he is. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10ifixalot( 72Feedback score is 50 to 99) Retracted: US $99,999,999.00
Explanation: Entered wrong amount
what a wuss - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7http://colbertondemand.com/videos/The_Colbert_Report/Colbert_Unveils_His_New_Portrait
here's the video clip unveiling the new portrait for anyone interested - doomonu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Wow....$77,777,877.77. They really will be able to save ALL the children. They might even be able to pay off the national debt with what's left over.
- raabco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7What's amazing is that a seemingly legit bidder posted a $10mil bid.
- Battlecry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think Mr. Colbert should fire his webmaster. He left all the directories open on his site. Terrorist bears could easily sneak in at any time.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The ***** responsible for bidding up the auction to this overinflated price last bought a $14.99 cell phone.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300032886409
Lets just say he's a fraud. - nogami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I thought they had a system installed where you could post an item that would require a credit-card deposit (say $20) in order to bid (so fraudulent bids lost the deposit)...
...Or it just wasn't used...
...Or they wanted this to happen to give them more material for the show :P - kyoung989, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The bidding is pretty funny until you think about it. They're pranking a CHARITY. Show a little class, members of the Colbert Nation. Not everything in life is a brick wall waiting to be graffitied.
- stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Why can't Digg have more stories about Colbert? And what about Jon Stewart? He's always overlooked here.
- Hydraulix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5He should have put it on craigslist.
- nakke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Well, it is a nice portrait!
- aOenEz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7So let's say my eBay handle is A, and another guy's is B.
I set my max bid on an item as 5 dollars. The list will show that "A" has a max bix of 5 dollars. Now let's say "B" bids 10 dollars. The list will show that "A" bid 5 dollars and then "B" bid 6 dollars. Both of the names will be there.
Like:
A: $5
B: $6
But then let's say I come back and set my max bid to 100 dollars. If "B" tries to bid say 8 dollars or 10 dollars, it will just show up as if "A" bid it.
Like:
A: $5
B: $6
A: $7
A: $8.50
A: $10
A: $11.50
A: $13
...
...
A: $100
Then if "B" finally decides to top $100 his name will show up.
And I know the explanation sucks, but I'm tired right now -- dead tired. Sorry. Hope you understood it, though. - babyjewels, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm sure the guy who's bid on a grand total of two pieces of electronics before this can pay that 99 million. (yes I'm a stalker) I wonder if colbert will roast the guy tomorrow.
- PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4People need to realize that the internet is real...
- burntfire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4There is NO way the winner will pay that. The last item they bought was a Nokia phone for $15. This, unfortunatly, will be taken down. Too bad.
- rtini, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's a good demonstration of how easy it is to mess with eBay auctions.
- deanlowe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4They're just jackasses who think they're funny or clever. It's pretty ***** up when people like that ruin a charity auction.
- ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think this will bring more attention so the next serious auction will be even more popular.
- EpilepticMoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Fixed even more... now at $5,200...
- TheBarge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah the crazy thing is that some of the accounts super-bidding have decent reps. I don't get why some asshat with a decent rep would be fake bidding on this. They deserve account bans.
By the way, I wouldn't blame just psolem. Check out goowijand, or yoshirpg, or any of those guys. I could be wrong, but the history just shows people who seem to be upping their own bids at ridiculous amounts of money. - deanlowe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3He should have done a live auction on the show.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4lol over 2 million
- doomonu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I had the first bid. I love it. Holy ***** it's up to 10 mill
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What's the Daily Show got to do with this?
- hack314, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3*****.. digg down
- OsakaWilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Which brings up the word 'backwash'.
- bbatsell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2But if you bid over $15,000, you have to provide a credit card and eBay has to verify it by charging to it, and since bidding is a contract, he can't get out of it, since eBay has his credit card number and name — what the hell was he trying to do?
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's going to become the most expensive item on e-bay.
- WackyComputer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Metman,
This is a charity auction for Save the Children. What the painting is worth is mute. -
