- Spikito, on 10/12/2007, -50/+164racism is a joke. i recently heard steve harvey on the radio tell black people to stop whining. he says if "racism" is whats holding you back, then you have problems bigger than racism. it doesnt exist today like it did 50 years ago, anyone young enough to be on digg hasnt experienced true racism, mainly what we have today is prejudice.
- Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -16/+112The article is quite misleading. It implies that Colbert didn't intentionally make the "slur" (which it hardly was) as a comedy bit in his traditional satire of recent events (namely, Don Imus' remakrs). Anyone who couldn't tell that Colbert was joking the entire time really needs to get their sarcasm/satire radars checked.
On the other hand, what you said, Spikito, is utterly false. Racism still exists in its brutally violent, derogatory, and immoral form - it's simply not as visible or accepted as it used to be half a century ago. I would agree with Harvey about racism not holding people back (it's the victim mentality that comes out of racism, or ideas of racism, that's the real issue). - TheRingmaster, on 10/12/2007, -9/+102Hilarious and good job on Colbert's part, he knows how to do topical humour better than any, Stewart is a close second.
If you are serious Dolemite, then good job on giving me more laughs than Colbert did. - consonance, on 10/12/2007, -2/+63"Let me bring in the reverend Al Sharpton whose radio program you were a guest on yesterday."
"Why, is he Hungarian?" - relay2005, on 10/12/2007, -5/+48That clip was another clip of Colbert splicing together stuff....man you guys just don't watch the show do you.......racial slurs...I'm sick of the politically correct stuff going on.....the more we do this to ourselves as a country the more censorship will happen...wake up america....it's time to act as grown ups and stop acting like "Oh mom, guess what Timmy said....." Grow up people!
- jonnydeformed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+39wait, did people actually take something Colbert said seriously? Thats even funnier than that Hungarian bit, which was pretty funny.
- Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -7/+34I agree racism does indeed exist today, but also that it's nowhere near as bad as it was 50 years ago.
But there's racism that's funny and then there's racism in spirit of hatred. If you let every little thing bother you then of course you're going to get offended and pissed off. I remember Colbert's ching chong scandal from a year ago, and I couldn't even give a crap. I found it funny, and I found it funny again. It's not I'm getting the ***** kicked out of me in the street because Colbert made a joke. I'm not being discriminated against and neither have I seen the rise of "No Chinks Allowed" signs in public establishments on account of Stephen Colbert. I can accept the fact that me made a joke pointing out the differences between our races. I can laugh about our differences but not a commentary in the spirit of hatred. - Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Actually, the Hungarian ambassador did a pretty good job (assuming that really was the Hungarian ambassador).
- crestfall, on 10/12/2007, -14/+35reverse racism... now that's a funny term. I guess simple racism is reserved for the actions of ignorant whites against black people.
- loki440, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Colbert was wrong! Here's some proof that Hungarians can rock the house:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--Vaz9jW054
"Yeah c'mon, bizness. . ." - loki440, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22Ok. . .if you don't live in America, and you've never heard of any Don Imus, Stephen Colbert or Matt Lauer, why are you posting comments to this story?
So let me guess what country you're from. . . um The Douchebag Republic maybe? - phaed, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20That and the look on Sharptons face almost made me ***** my pants.
- macaca, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19For those who dont havent watched the show yet, Colbert plays a character of Right wing TV show host. Its spoof on Bill Oreilly. Its an excellent show. And yes he has a great command on a vocabulary.
- Shuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16He is officially the coolest ambassador in the world! That guitar was SWEET too!
- joeydoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Holy *****... the show is SATIRE!!!! "SATIRE" look it up morons. Last time I checked Colbert didn't have a radio show.
.... For *****'s sake I worry about you people. - betteroffalone, on 10/12/2007, -8/+22They really cant play guitar that well.
- betterth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14And for those who don't watch the show and/or are stupid, this clip is him splicing himself into the Today interview with Don Imus. That didn't actually take place...
- PongGod, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16No, he's not Hungarian. He's just an idiot.
- PongGod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11What planet to do live on?

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15Since when did the Irish free themselves from the English , The enclave of Northern Ireland still exists, and is going to do so for some time.
When did the English free themselves from the Romans, Saxons, Normans etc etc.
Whats the sell-by date on Racism.
If I'm English, can I call the Italians, Germans and French racist because they invaded and enslaved my people and held my race in contempt in favour of their own ?
How long does it last ?
Does racism have a colour ? - Lane, on 10/12/2007, -15/+24all of you who think racist stereotypes are always a bad thing can go suck a big fat black *****.
- RCcola159, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Colbert is probably one of the funniest people today. I love that whole asian part.
- crazyspaceman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Seriously? Stephen Colbert isn't popular in other countries? That just doesn't make any sense.
- bigpeeler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Why do I want to vomit every time I see Sharpton's sanctimonious face?
- yourfavweapn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9people need to lighten up
- lemon67, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11once again, Colbert being absolutely ***** top notch. FTW
- Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Not going to deny it. The ultimate paradox? An old Asian lady as your driving instructor.

...
Let's do this I'm a cashew! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Colbert is the man! He could say "nappy-headed-ho's" and have Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson on his back and still get away with it.
- beatniak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@crazyspaceman:
I'm from the Netherlands (EU) and I do watch the Colbert Report and the Daily Show.
Man, I love TVTAD :) - insomniac8400, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Racism does indeed exist today. The proof is the situation where you have a 75 year old white guy being fired from his job for saying something that pales in comparison to anything spoken on BET or anything said in any rap song made today. Imus should just track down where he heard the phrase "Nappy headed ho". I bet it was from a black guy and of course no one cared when the black guy said it. You have to love the black activist guys on the news shows trying to make a distinction between when rappers say crap like this and when a old white guy says it. That is true racism right there. And you also have to love that if you watched these news shows, you most likely heard the phrase nappy headed ho over 1000 times in the past few days and no one else is losing their job.
- blamar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@Nudar
The Caucasian race (sometimes called the Caucasoid race) is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as, "relating to a broad division of humankind covering peoples from Europe, western Asia, Middle East, South Asia and North Africa" or "white-skinned; of European origin" or "relating to the region of the Caucasus in SE Europe."[1]

Seriously, thanks for playing though. - Wonderkind, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Al Sharpton is Joe McCarthy. His job is to find racism where it doesn't exist.
- emkajii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Colbert is right, Name me one good Hungarian guitar player. you can't, becuse they don't exist.
- Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+56 453 628 000 in the world as of 2005.
301,499,000 in US.
Equals to about 4.6% of the world's population. You're right it's not 5% of the world's population who'd know any of these people, but it's pretty damn close. Then again, I didn't count Canada, probably parts of Mexico, a decent number of Europeans (Australia too), and the small number of people that watch satellite or download international TV shows. - drakethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Reverse Racism does indeed exist. You know its almost sad because I've moved to a neighborhood in Seattle thats predominately minority and predominity black. So the first thing I should point out is that this is Seattle so racism in this part of the country is a lot less of an issue then almost every other part. Still what I've noticed is that black people are more resentful of every other race. I will get yelled at by black people as I'm walking down the street getting called white boy, etc. I can be with a black friend and it still doesn't matter. I can be with my hispanic friends and it doesn't matter. I'm doing everything I can to remove the stereotype that white people are racist towards blacks but guess what? Black people are still racist towards me.... Interesting how that works.
Also one of the key things to remember is that there are a lot of black people out there that extend this beyond simply white people. Every single black friend of mine who tries to get ahead by going to school at the same college, gets crap from the black community. They are somehow considered white blacks now because they worked with the system to try to get ahead. So who are black people really hurting then? THEMSELVES! Since I can handle getting called names, I can handle the fact that someone broke into my car and stole my laptop, however its black people that have a lot harder time getting ahead when their entire race is telling them to give up and so ***** no to education...
Reverend Al Sharpton is a ***** idiot too. He tries to oversimplify everything and blame it on everyone except for the black community. He gets on the news and talks crap to the rest of the world. Then he wonders why he looks like the idiot and why Republicans love it. He makes the racism cause look even more retarded... So seriously as the person above me said, man the ***** up and stop blaming others for your problems. Disgusing the issue as racism when its really people using an idea as an excuse to never get ahead is sad because it only hurts the people who do it. - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@xyzman
haha, you are too smug
I am australian, I know lots of australians, and infact people from everywhere who know who both of my previously mentioned people are. infact if Im not mistaken the daily show has been aired on tv in australia (maybe still is, i dont watch tv) - abuzmein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Colbert' is witty, poignant, and hilarious while Don Imus is just a mean old a$$hole. That's why Colbert can say 'racist' things among the other multitude of things he says that, if he were serious about, would be reprehensible. Don Imus claims he was joking; yeah right Imus...You reap what you sow you bitter old hack.
- NullaPax, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I'm English and I have never heard of Don Imus or Matt Lauer either. I don't know half the people that get mentioned on these boards. So if something looks interesting to me I Google the name and learn about them. It is one of the things that the Internet is actually good for ... learning.
I had never heard of Stephen Colbert until I read something about him on Fark.com.
I now know that he is a very sharp commentator and ( to be a bit anti-American here ;P ) I'm not surprised that a lot of the U.S.A.. don't like him, I think his humour simply goes way over the majority of the populations heads.
Americans are generally not good at laughing at themselves or their beliefs.
Take a look at some of his clips xyzman, well worth checking out in my opinion. - spyd3rweb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7A new slur should be created for people who are offended by one person making a racial comment. How about "hypocrite", or "whiney bitch"
- Supurcell, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11Wow, asianwaste, you completely missed the entire point of Colbert's "Ching Chong Ding Dong" bit. On the surface it served as a joke about a completely absurd, outdated stereotype. It's other meaning, hidden within Stephen's brilliance, was to show that the Stephen Colbert of the Colbert Report is just a character that he's doing and not actually him.
- etnu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think it's funny that people are more concerned with Imus calling people "nappy-headed" than they are with him calling them "hoes".
- Elektriq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm Dutch, and I've heard of Colbert, of course, and saw some Matt Lauer interviews.
Coming to your ***** up country in a couple of weeks (San Francisco!). - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3codec problem
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I ***** hate the Hungarians and their spikey little helmets.
- pabloD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4nudar & blamar are BOTH right. 'Caucasian' is indeed used popularly as a catch-all term for what we recognize as 'white', but the term really should just be reserved for people from the Caucasus region. In the final analysis, it's nothing more than a very very common misnomer, and the OED treats it as such by giving us both definitions.I had a caucasian (from the Caucasus region) teacher once, and she was pretty adamant about it. I can see why. I tend to prefer 'white', too.
- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Colbert_at_the_2006_White_House_Correspondents%27_Association_Dinner
- Yawgmoth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The really funny part is that some people here are taking him seriously. It's called satire people. The interview was spliced and the slur itself was staged.
- Heembo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4loki440, oh my god. (in my dying darth vader voice) Colbert was riiighhhhtttttt........
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+14Yes. We all saw that part of the video. Thanks.
