- billizm, on 06/18/2008, -0/+163They calculated Bill Gate's emissions by assuming that because his income is ~10,000 times more than the average person, then he must produce ~10,000 times more emissions than the average person. That is lame.
- mess7777, on 06/18/2008, -4/+114All I know is that Liz Hurley has nice *****.
- Surferess, on 06/18/2008, -7/+1173 comments totally unrelated to each other:
Celine Dion? I saw yesterday on TV that she had grossed $4M doing Vegas shows;
Al Gore? We have been all over that one here on digg. Don't get me started;
Bill Gates? Well he did also made a positive impact that is 10,000 times that of the average person. - dpcamp, on 06/18/2008, -9/+85why should i care???
- lukas88, on 06/18/2008, -1/+61I had to read that twice too. What a joke. According to my calculations, the author produces 10,000 times more ***** than the average person.
- louiss19, on 06/18/2008, -1/+59Another name for this article can be "Celebrities with terrible plastic surgery."
Anyway, I thought it was only celebrities who could actually afford to go fully green? - samoan27, on 06/18/2008, -1/+54Based on how they phrased Bill Gates footprint it sounds like the class was linearly trend setting the relationship between wealth and carbon footprint then projected where he'd be. If that is the case, then it's just a load of made up crap; outliers NEVER follow established trends very well.
- inactive, on 06/18/2008, -1/+46I recycle newsprint by turning it into nifty hats.
- ozymandias2012, on 06/18/2008, -3/+45Damn....Madonna is hideous!
- billizm, on 06/18/2008, -1/+38How? You don't even know what his environment impact is. Bill's caption isn't even based on any facts they gathered on him except that he is rich.
- jstohler, on 06/18/2008, -0/+34Agreed. That's just lazy "reporting."
- ohnoerino, on 06/18/2008, -0/+32Not shocked at all about the Beckhams. There's a great chance that Posh spice doesn't know what a carbon footprint is, as she openly admitted she's never read anything but fashion magazines in her adult life.
- freezeout, on 06/18/2008, -0/+31John Travolta's plane?
isn't Travolta a level 6 Scientologist? he should be able to fly around without an airplane - inactive, on 06/18/2008, -2/+29am i the only one who has no idea what the hell this comment is trying to say?
- Troy64, on 06/18/2008, -0/+27That has got to be worth a few carbon credits.
- braeden0613, on 06/18/2008, -2/+24seriously who freakin cares
- ebonn101, on 06/18/2008, -1/+21in related news: who cares?
None of these celebs, except, ironically enough, Al Gore, have been overtly outspoken about "climate change"
Sure, Madonna headlined a concert to raise awareness about it, yeah, whatever, but every celeb does something of the sort (if not for climate change, for another cause) in order to get themselves publicity and face time in the media. And quite frankly, the amount of GOOD that Bill Gates does for this world FAR outweighs any large "carbon footprint" he leaves. The man can build a carbon emitting factory in his backyard and it will still pale in comparison to the deeds he does on behalf of the underprivileged.
Just because they are celebs doesn't mean we should feel entitled to criticize them for "not going green", especially when pretty much the rest of the country isn't taking it too seriously either. - inactive, on 06/18/2008, -3/+23Has anyone seen Al Gore place now? Don't get blinded by the glare of sunlight or blown away by the wind.
- evaburrito, on 06/18/2008, -1/+20I don't get it when they say "so and so has 15 cars"
Do they drive them all at once? - clm100, on 06/18/2008, -2/+21I'm very confused... They say the Beckham's had a footprint 18 times larger. One slide later they say "The Beckhams may have one of the biggest carbon footprints in the world ... [Bill Gate's] impact is about 10,000 times that of an average person."
This is truly ridiculous. - mrtrevin, on 06/18/2008, -2/+20That article was written horribly, on top of being complete *****.
- daRoach, on 06/18/2008, -2/+20Wow, what plastic surgeon ***** up Al Gores face?
- Namco, on 06/18/2008, -0/+18"one MIT class looked into what sort of impact Bill Gates had on the environment. They discovered that emissions rise along with a person's income. So how did the billionaire do? The class estimated that his impact is about 10,000 times that of the average person."
Doesn't sound too accurate to me. An MIT class speculating on someone that they don't know who lives 3000 miles away. - samoan27, on 06/18/2008, -3/+20Hey I want my wife looking that good when she's what... eighty?
- yngtimmy, on 06/18/2008, -9/+26this carbon footprint thing is BS through and through. Its just another way for people like Al Gore to make MILLIONS of dollars
- Surferess, on 06/18/2008, -0/+17Wow, I would never admit that, even if it were true. Shallow!
- acmaurer, on 06/18/2008, -0/+16maybe she has a moat, haha
- ludditte, on 06/18/2008, -2/+18And buying "green stamps" does not stop the fact that you are still polluting right there beside your neighbors. This carbon offset thing is bs. If you are driving a hummer, and yet you think it is ok because you sent money to some carbon exchange, guess what, it is still irreplaceable fossil fuel that went up in the air that I had to breathe in. And that mansion of yours, Mr. Gore, guess what the power plant uses to get your electricity. Probably coal.
- trollick, on 06/18/2008, -6/+21Everybody on that list except Bill is a douchebag.
- ludditte, on 06/18/2008, -0/+14let me see, he is leaving almost his entire fortune for charities in Africa. I think that buys him a little karma.
- mywhitenoise, on 06/18/2008, -9/+23I think I know why people on digg hate us people who really do try to be "green".
1. They make it look like a fad (who gives a ***** about celebrities?)
2. They make us look like hypocrites...since that's exactly what a "green" celebrity is.
3. Over using the word "green".
I'm burying this article so people wont group me into that stereotype. - johnj21, on 06/18/2008, -4/+17LOL AlGore made the cut.... Oh but he buys carbon offsets from a company he has a vested interest in.

http://www.generationim.com/about/team.html - Snap65, on 06/18/2008, -7/+20Are you serious? Who comes up with this crap. Why do you, the author, investigate the real menaces to the Earth like corporations and stuff like that.
- BOFH2, on 06/18/2008, -3/+15It's not that we hate you. It is because "you" think everyone should do what you do.
- Pake, on 06/18/2008, -0/+11"They discovered that emissions rise along with a person's income. So how did the billionaire do?"
In other words, they didn't do any research on Bill Gate's himself, rather, they just took average carbon footprints for different income ranges, created an equation that would give a rough estimate and then threw his income in there to figure it out. - inactive, on 06/18/2008, -2/+13They are going green only when is about bills
- granolajoe, on 06/18/2008, -4/+15Celine Dion supposedly used about 6.5M gallons of water in one year. The place where she lives acts like it's no big deal, and she needs to water her plants to keep her privacy.
- austinwpetersen, on 06/18/2008, -17/+27Global Warming is most likely a myth.
- MAGZine, on 06/18/2008, -1/+10I call ***** *****.
Bill Gates isn't a company, so you can't count Microsoft and/or business expenses on him. As far as I know, Bill is a very modest man when it comes to celebrity energy usage. Read the artical, they estimated using his pay class. So if he makes more... he pollutes more, right? Uhm. No. - aflaks, on 06/18/2008, -0/+9rock and roll used to be about how much booze you would drink before a show, or how much coke you could do off of some naked floosy's boobs. Now its about who produces biggest carbon footprint, how lame
- wellyuk, on 06/18/2008, -1/+10She was surgically transformed into a *****.
- kahakauai, on 06/18/2008, -3/+12.... who really gives a ***** what celebrities are doing????
Goddamn you are condemning these people because they have planes, or they travel, OR the have to travel to I don't know... ***** WORK!? You sit your gay ass on your couch all day and conserve for us :) - edwartica, on 06/18/2008, -4/+12I was kind of hoping to see Paris Hilton on this list.
- Tyrghast, on 06/18/2008, -2/+10Points for quoting someone who can see straight through the *****. I'm sorry but the whole trendy, neo-hippy 'going green' fad is really annoying.
- ludditte, on 06/18/2008, -1/+9not when you start with Celine Dion
- ludditte, on 06/18/2008, -0/+8she reads?
- inactive, on 06/18/2008, -1/+9Cool, my ass
- holysocks, on 06/18/2008, -2/+10Celine Dion - "According to the story, that means she used more than 18,000 gallons a day, or more than 100 times what the average area resident uses. What's even more shocking is the musician doesn't even live there - the home is still under construction."
ummm maybe because concrete requires water? - teh_spazz, on 06/18/2008, -0/+8I'd still ***** her.
- visionaryIX, on 06/18/2008, -0/+7Elizabeth Hurley is excused on the grounds of cleavage.
