- JustyUeki, on 03/26/2009, -0/+89And this is a bad thing how?
- algaeturd, on 03/26/2009, -0/+44Thank god. If this is the only positive thing that comes from the recession, I'll take it. Next up can we please quit having Americans worship anyone and everyone who has money? Please? And for Americans to realize that most rich people are just ***** normal people who have a lot of money?
- lfroker, on 03/26/2009, -0/+24Good.
- bigfatphony19, on 03/26/2009, -0/+24Fantastic
- fightingforair, on 03/26/2009, -0/+20This is the best news I have read all day.
Down with the celebrity praise garbage.
Down with Preze Hilton
Down with E! entertainment television.
It's about damn time this happened. And I hope that it never comes back. - inactive, on 03/26/2009, -0/+18Dude, it's 10x worse in other countries.
In Malaysia I had the only Mustang GT Convertible in the country (big deal - not even a special car), but the police wouldn't even talk to me, or stop me and avoided eye contact with me during routine road blocks (or whatever you call it when the police are blocking the road and stopping every car looking for contraband) when I lived in Malaysia. They would just frantically wave me on because they thought I was connected. All because of my dumb car, haha.
I also would be in small airports bobbing about the country and once tripped the metal detector -- the security guy was afraid to wand me, because I was white and he thought rich, and awkwardly made me continue forward, though I wanted to stop and assume the position. "It's okay, okay, okay," he mumbled and kept me moving along.
I have many more examples, but I am too lazy to keep typing.
Anyway, America isn't that bad after all. - STBAT25, on 03/26/2009, -0/+15We'll at least something good came out of this *****. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHPOzQzk9Qo
- coldkodiak, on 03/26/2009, -0/+13You know you live a vapid life when you obsess about other people's 'lives'.
- Ymeg, on 03/26/2009, -0/+13Celebrity magazines/Tabloids have the absolute worst journalistic standards. I think listening to DPRK's propaganda outlets would be more objective.
- RoboRay, on 03/26/2009, -0/+10I'm glad this ISN'T an Onion link!
- fretslide, on 03/26/2009, -0/+7Good Riddance
- TheCash, on 03/26/2009, -1/+7I was thinking the same thing. First good news I've heard all day. Should make Lindsay Lohan happy as well, since apparently it is celebrity mags like this and their over-scrutinizing that's to blame for her stalled acting career.
The very fact that I know that at all is reason enough to celebrate the downfall of these damn magazines. - ArdenLinoge, on 03/26/2009, -1/+7Could a world without magazines that cover the shallow lives for complete morons really be a bad thing? What about magazines that cover the personal lives of your average internet commenter?
Celebrity porn, now thats something I can support. Celebrity Skin magazine and Celebrity Sleuth magazine were great rags. I say were because I don't even know if they still exist. - d3m0n1z3d, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5Good ***** riddance is right.
- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5Who gives a rat's ass about celebrities when there are REAL issues to worry about?
- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5YES:
http://tinyurl.com/aulch2 - dawglse, on 03/26/2009, -0/+5I expected Onion, HOWEVER... happy it isn't.
- moose26, on 03/26/2009, -0/+4Oh god I hope it happens. I would also like to see other periodicals like the Enquirer get the axe too, but I doubt it will happen due to all dumb ***** and rednecks who love to read about: what celebrity is gay, how unicorns are real and how a guy in Kansas has an Alien living under his porch. Real Honest News FTW,... YEAH, YOU HEARD ME... using real honest and news in the same sentence!
regardless, I will miss all the fake pictures of the Loch Ness Monster somehow being seen in the great lakes.. even if the picture is always blurry or looks like a turtle floating on a log. - sooperspook, on 03/26/2009, -0/+4And nothing of value was lost.
- rancor01, on 03/26/2009, -0/+4Very interesting.. Would love to hear more of those stories sometime..
- nyxerebos, on 03/26/2009, -0/+4It will come back, people won't stop having dumbass interests just because they have less money. Unfortunately. I'll read some amazing headline on Digg and feel great about humankind's scientific, artistic or social progress. Later I'll be sitting in a bar or bus stop and realize I'm the only person there who knows or cares, while I overhear someone gossiping in great detail about the (probably fictional) exploits of celebrity x. Then I feel less great about humankind.
- bushisadumbass, on 03/26/2009, -0/+3I cannot for the life of me understand how we as Americans are so stupid and actually care about celebrities and their lives.
Do they pay my bills? I do not understand the fascination with them... - PopcornDave, on 03/26/2009, -0/+3Think of how much faster grocery lines may move now that the land based walruses that read these things in line won't have them anymore.
- manjas8, on 03/26/2009, -0/+2moose: pretty sure us rednecks could give a ***** less about celebrities.
I think this is a great thing. Too many Americans concentrate on the lives of celebrities more than they do their own. - momedefome, on 03/26/2009, -0/+2it's about damn time!!!!!!
- exspasticcomics, on 03/26/2009, -0/+2oh- the tragedy.
- SpeedStix, on 03/26/2009, -0/+2This makes me very happy. Who the hell cares about celebrities and athletes for that matter. They are just people, leave them the ***** alone. They have lives as well. If they start radically changing the world with their exceptional intellect then maybe I will give a damn. Either then that, leave them alone.
- MCBowelmovement, on 03/26/2009, -0/+2Hooray!
- joerod, on 03/26/2009, -1/+3screw the magazines that have week old news, perezhilton.com has news as its happening, and you dont have to pay for it.
- bjs3171, on 03/26/2009, -0/+2Thank Christ.
- momedefome, on 03/26/2009, -0/+2it's about damn time!!!!!!
- Filter, on 03/26/2009, -0/+2Wait! They're to big to fail!
- HappyScrappy, on 03/26/2009, -0/+2I don't think they'll be down for long.
These magazines exist because they are incredibly cheap to produce. Instead of having to pay writers, you just rewrite PR press releases. And although you have to pay the paparazzi a fee for their photos, there are a lot of paps, so their prices are pretty low.
Basically, there are a fair number of industries based around the idea of just getting and printing celebrity content, all because it's very cost-effective. It's the entire principle behind awards shows! - abrasion, on 03/26/2009, -0/+2You guys suck, she's hot as :( I like em short and shapey.
- Nikki09, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1I think this is to be expected. Print media has been dwindling for a long time. A lot of people are getting their news and gossip online. It is a faster and cheaper way to get what you want when you want it. The recession only exacerbates the problem because the people who bought the mags may not have as much expendable income.
- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1a lot of vapid morons obviously (there are millions of them out there)
- smack1700, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1Years ago Americans used to respect individuals that earned their success, you know, "The American Dream". If you were wealthy or famous, it was because you made some sort of individual effort to make yourself wealthy or famous.
Now if you're born to a famous or wealthy individual, you in turn deserve attention and a reality TV show. You know, for being born and stuff. - ranxerox76, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1i really think if we could get rid of this completely.... and I don't just mean the sites or magazine... but peoples wanting for this stuff....society would be a much better place
- PopcornDave, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1Haven't they pretty much been replaced by Mr Skin and the internet in general?
- Uaedaien, on 03/27/2009, -0/+1I hope they don't get a bailout
- iguanapunk, on 03/26/2009, -0/+1We can only hope that if this does occur then the 'readers' of this magazines will die. Harsh? no.
- Socolco, on 03/26/2009, -0/+0I hope they don't recover. Who buys this crap anyway?
- Lucypenn87, on 03/26/2009, -0/+0I think the future is online!
- gkiltz, on 03/26/2009, -0/+0There is absolutely no reason they need to! Or any other magazine for that matter!
The future of information distribution lies on the web, in several different forms. not in mailing dead trees all over the country every month! Even many of the stores get their mags, or some of them anyway by US MAIL! Completely insane! - inactive, on 03/26/2009, -0/+0don't give up your day job pal...
- maccagrabme, on 03/27/2009, -0/+0If celebs want the publicity let them pay for it. The current system of the media paying to give celebs exposure seems backwards.
- giemiller, on 03/27/2009, -0/+0thanks for this. it's really sad to know that print media is now suffering from recession.
- flamesrule, on 03/26/2009, -0/+0let's hope that the celebrity shows fail too. Entertainment Tonight, Extra, Insider and all that crap. Guess what B-List celebrity had for dinner last night next on our stupid show. God that is crap.
- removedby, on 05/30/2009, -0/+0Yes, but celebrity blogs will live forever.
My favorite are male celebrity blogs, like this, http://celebnudemale.com
but, that's just me/ -
