- cbuddha42, on 12/19/2007, -26/+45What's with all the "she's a whore comments?" Having sex at 16 is perfectly normal. The article refers to the father as her "long term boyfriend." While we don't know quite what that means, unless you have some evidence to suggest she is cheating on him I think the use of the words "long term" pretty much rules out her being a slut. Ok, they were either stupid and didn't use birth control or it failed, but that hardly makes her a whore.
People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, so you may only call her a slut if you had no interest in having sex at 16.- acdcfanbill, on 12/19/2007, -1/+23No interest, or no means... I need a clarification.
- Cenobite, on 12/19/2007, -3/+25I didn't get pregnant or get anyone pregnant by age sixteen. Does that mean I have your permission to throw stones now?
- octophobic, on 12/19/2007, -0/+24wait... you're equipped to do both?
- insllvn, on 12/19/2007, -3/+2Apparently Cenobite was equipped to do neither...
- rpgmaker, on 12/19/2007, -4/+1Obviously you need english classes Cenobite...
- BCBender, on 12/19/2007, -18/+7Okay so if you think having sex at 16 is perfectly normal then I suppose you're okay with underage drinking, or drinking and driving for that matter. Teens at 16 are not equipped to deal with the consequences of their actions- as is the case. And I'm willing to bet it wasn't all her idea either. The Sperm Donor probably pressured her into it. He could/should be charged with statutory rape and be ordered to community service at a house for unwed teen mothers to see what his irresponsible actions can do.
- insllvn, on 12/19/2007, -3/+15"Okay so if you think having sex at 16 is perfectly normal then I suppose you're okay with underage drinking, or drinking and driving for that matter."
Yes to "underage" drinking no to drinking and driving. One is a personal choice, ie to imbibe alcohol, and one is a stupid ***** thing to do. Goddamn puritanical values, how is it that in European countries where the drinking age is significantly lower or non existent there are fewer cases of alcoholism and drunk driving? Because people learn from an early age the effects and dangers of alcohol, and are thus much better equipped to handle their liquor by the time they can drive.
"Teens at 16 are not equipped to deal with the consequences of their actions- as is the case."
At what magical age does the responsibility gland kick in? Oh wait I just made up the responsibility gland, so never. There are a lot of people who are never responsible enough to avoid epic failures of judgment (see Keifer Sutherland, George Bush) and their are some people who are responsible and can keep their ***** together well before the age of 16. Responsibility isn't like puberty, it doesn't just kick in.
"The Sperm Donor probably pressured her into it."
Cause girls can't think for themselves. Right, gotcha.- KingBabi, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2In France drinking "underage" (that is to say, under 16), is a total non-issue. You're right.
- Altoidsxcore1, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1Its simple, you take a chance, you use BC, you don't take a chance, you don't do it at all.
You cannot pin all the blame on the guy, even if he did pressure her it doesn't mean she had to do it, clearly shes not calling rape or showing signs of depression on the topic so he didn't physically force her to have sex with him, so go ahead and call out peer-pressure all you want, but all peer-pressure is, is a nice way to call someone stupid.
All that matters at this point is that the guy is not backing out of the relationship just because shes pregnant, I don't believe people should be pinning her sisters personality on her, Jamie seems completely different than Britney did at that age and has the opportunity to be a good parent, I have two 17 year old friend that are proud, health parents, they took responsibility for their actions, one lost the father cuz he was an irresponsible pig, and the other is still going strong with her partner. If anyone wants to flame her wait until she makes a serious mistake, sex at 16 is not wrong, nor is it irresponsible, they just took a chance and lost it, no big deal. - LeeSoong, on 12/21/2007, -1/+1Consuming neurotoxic chemicals is not "Normal" - most animals will avoid consuming strong alcohol - they are smart enough to know it's poison.
Reproduction is actually a required behavior of all species - bacteria, people, turtles...
- insllvn, on 12/19/2007, -3/+15"Okay so if you think having sex at 16 is perfectly normal then I suppose you're okay with underage drinking, or drinking and driving for that matter."
- optimo, on 12/19/2007, -5/+2I agree with the post above, shouldn't be having sex until you can deal with possible consequenses, bot financially and mentally
- jpmoney03, on 12/19/2007, -1/+2She has one of the two at least which is better than most girls pregnant at the same age.
- incubusnb, on 12/19/2007, -1/+8Treat 16 year olds like kids, and they'll act like kids, Treat them like adults and they'll act like adults.
I can't find the link, but I read an article that said that the human brain reaches an adult level at around age 14, and that the only reason teenagers lash out is because, while they feel like an adult, everyone treats them like a child.- Mejogid, on 12/19/2007, -2/+3Even if their brain is fully developed, you still have to consider hormones and their lack of experience and knowledge.
- voetsjoeba, on 12/19/2007, -4/+2I really don't think you're mentally adult at the age of 14. At 14, you're generally stupid as hell.
- Altoidsxcore1, on 12/19/2007, -2/+3@Mejogid-- You're wrong, raising a child doesn't take life long experience or knowledge, all it requires is a caring parent, common sense, and doing what is best for the child.
@Voetsjoeba-- Thats exactly what Incubusnb is talking about, you're treating them like they don't know anything, many teenagers are much more intelligent than you give them credit for, most just lash out due to people like you treating them as if they don't know a thing in the world. If you hear them out and treat them like young adults they will prove more intelligent then half the 20-30 population out there, ***** I'd have political debates with people 3 times my age at the bar I worked at last summer, and I gained respect from dozens of people for doing so. If treated properly we show more intelligence and more maturity than many adults.

She fails at parenting!- xptoast, on 12/19/2007, -9/+4Parents don't always fail. Check this out...Parents do a good job at raising their kids. One turns out to be a decent human. The other turns out quite evil. The other is happy and doing super awesome in life. Same parents. Same teaching. Humans just suck. But yes parenting is important. Some kids just don't learn it.
- Salanmon, on 12/19/2007, -4/+1Your Comment does make sense, Sometimes it just doesn't work out, but something about your comment failed and that's why you got dugged
- Altoidsxcore1, on 12/19/2007, -3/+1The only thing that failed about his comment is that the general digg population is made up of a bunch of ignorant pigs that don't have a shred of common sense in their body. Watch, I'll get dugg down instantly for being right, they can't deal with being wrong so they have to rag on the people that are right, digg corruption in its prime.
- CharliesRevenge, on 12/20/2007, -1/+1@Altoidsxcore1
Just because you ANNOUNCE that you will get dugg down doesn't make your comment any more valid, or you any less foolish.
And seriously, you need to learn the difference between lack of common sense and good old internet humor. Digg users (for the most part) are some of the most sensible commenters I've seen.- Altoidsxcore1, on 12/20/2007, -1/+1Then you my friend have not seen many commenters
- zydeco, on 12/19/2007, -2/+1If the kid doesn't learn, then the parenting failed. You can't read a parenting book to a kid and when the kid winds up in jail say "oh well, guess he didn't learn".

- Yodwinder, on 12/19/2007, -11/+1You must be implying the people who go to church are not allowed to have sex. If your hypothesis was correct then that would mean that there would be no religion because the first believers would have became extinct.

- sbetchel, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2Kudos for all for completely missing cactus' point.
- woohhaa, on 12/19/2007, -0/+3Why wouldn't the baptist couple have sex standing up?
They didn't want their neighbors to think they were dancing. - Altoidsxcore1, on 12/19/2007, -1/+1That doesn't mean anything, I grew up with Christianity all around me, I went to private schools most of my life, I attended church every Sunday up until I was 15, and 80% of my friends happen to be Christian, there are only two that have taken the Sex after Marriage oath and still hold true to it, lets face it, Sex after Marriage is a dying belief in our society, its rarely mention anymore.
- alastria, on 12/20/2007, -0/+2Sex before marraige isn't the problem. She's 16!
- Altoidsxcore1, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1I wasn't referring to that as being to problem... I was replying to cactus... I mean... thats the whole reason my comment was in the drop down section under their comment about them meeting in church... duh? And there's nothing wrong with having sex at the age of 16, its a choice, who are you to say a 16 year old cant make a choice? At least shes taking responsibility for it instead of running out in search of an abortion clinic like most 16 year olds that got knocked up.

- eadnams, on 12/19/2007, -2/+5IIRC: Brittney was raised pretty down-to-earth by her mother... the crazy started with the fame, not with her mom.
- brufleth, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2@eadnams
The fame was the direct result of parenting. Most parents don't exploit their children like she has. Theft of childhood and all that. She's shown that she can manufacture some pretty good celebrity kids who then burn out, go crazy, hit the drugs, and are nothing but a joke before they're thirty.
- r3zonance, on 12/19/2007, -0/+6If you can't figure that out then you really need your head examined.
- mal1964, on 12/19/2007, -8/+5If you have ever read a parenting book they're not about raising the perfect family. that's impossible to do if you buy that book you are dreaming. a good book is about ups and downs and the many challenges that parents go though. she would have invaluable information real stuff you need not the fairy tale book your thinking of.. I know my mom would be in the nut house walking in her shoes,.
- NotAChickenHawk, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2Just the same, I think the parenting book I buy will be written by someone who can claim an actual success as a parent, not someone who could charitably be called 0 for 2.
- mal1964, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1That's good but even if you pick ten different ones that you think are best, I bet you one thousands dollars to your one that it will say your re a parent for life so you just scored her for a sprint. and the race is a marathon, but when you buy your books you will learn that.
- NotAChickenHawk, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1Yes, parenting may be a marathon. However, when your child becomes a parent at 16 and your other child would rather be out slutting it up instead of at home taking care of her kids while she's embroiled in the middle of a custody battle with the ex-husband from her failed marriage, and oh by the way didn't learn even basic lessons like the fact that proper ladies freaking wear underwear under their miniskirts whilst out in public, then I'd say, figuratively speaking, that the elder Mrs. Spears got drunk, started running her parenting marathon the wrong way and then tripped and broke both her legs in the first mile.
- mal1964, on 12/20/2007, -1/+1Don't misunderstand me i never said she was a great parent, I was saying her book would have invaluable info.. that most parenting don't have. I also am a positive person and mostly see what good people do and so much the bad. I'm not saying naive i just see good where others see bad. I did not disagree with your points just trying to add to them.
- mal1964, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1That's good but even if you pick ten different ones that you think are best, I bet you one thousands dollars to your one that it will say your re a parent for life so you just scored her for a sprint. and the race is a marathon, but when you buy your books you will learn that.

- BlacklabelSAR, on 12/19/2007, -1/+4So it's moral to have a baby out of wedlock and at age 16?
- LeeSoong, on 12/19/2007, -2/+2Yes. Yes it is.
Religion's powerful tool for mind control is to grab people by their genitals,
you must be in a church at least once a week,
you must do as you are told,
you must submit, you must conform, you must obey,
you will bow down to their false god of religion and dogma.
Kneel before your Cult leaders.
Oh, and the body ''made in gods image '
is dirty and evil and bad and sinful and immoral !
The fraudsters who plague humans with their false teachings depend on controlling the genitals, the reproduction of the slave subjects.
Hell, a new born baby is DAMNED with Original Sin
- Unless you pay your fee, and dip it's head in the water.
Bring cash.
After you've paid your fee to have cult approved sex,
and paid your fee for the damned baby water dunking,
you are required to fill the child's mind
with the same cult's lies and fraud taught to its parents.
Religious Cults Demand Control of Reproduction,
so they can enslave the minds of the people right from the get go.

- robberry, on 12/19/2007, -4/+22"***** abortions. You get pregnant, its your own goddamn fault."
Fihiro, you appear to making the following claims:
#1. If a woman gets pregnant, she is morally responsible (ie. "at fault") for causing the pregnancy.
#2. If a woman is morally responsible for causing a pregnancy, then she should not have an abortion.
Regarding #1, this is certainly true in some cases, but there are many cases where this is false. A woman who is raped cannot be blamed for becoming pregnant, as she did not invite the pregnancy. A woman who uses birth control that fails for some reason is not responsible, since she took measures to prevent the pregnancy from occuring. A woman who cannot use birth control due to medical reasons is not responsible, since she is unable to take the necessary steps to prevent pregnancy. A woman who is incorrectly diagnosed as infertile is not responsible, since she did not realize she was actually capable of becoming pregnant. A woman whose partner is wrongly diagnosed with a low sperm count is not responsible, for the same reason. A woman who practices the rhythm method but who has an aberrant ovulation cycle one month is not responsible, since she had no way of knowing that she was ovulating at the "wrong" time. Finally, a woman who does not understand the basic mechanics of sex, either as a result of mental retardation, insanity, or poor upbringing, is not responsible, since she lacks the knowledge necessary to determine what steps are necessary to prevent pregnancy. Clearly, #1 has many exceptions to the rule-- enough to make us question whether it should be a rule at all.
Regarding #2, it simply isn't clear why being morally responsible for a pregnancy automatically means that abortion isn't a morally acceptable abortion. It'd be one thing if you were arguing the "abortion is murder" angle, but you haven't done that here. You seem to think that having an abortion is somehow an abdication of responsibility, but you've made no argument for that claim, and it certainly doesn't seem plausible in light of the way we handle other unexpected complications in life. (After all, you'd think I was an idiot if I went around saying "***** car repair! You get in an accident, it's your own goddamn fault!" or "***** cough syrup! You catch a cold, it's your own goddamn fault!" And you'd be right to do so.) Without some argument to base this claim on, you're never going to convince anybody who doesn't already agree with you-- in which case, why bother posting at all?
So tell me, why *do* you think that a woman who "at fault" for getting pregnant is morally obligated to carry the baby to term? This isn't a rhetorical question-- I actually want to hear your answer, if you have one.- heiroglyph, on 12/19/2007, -3/+8I know that I'm not the intended target of you question, but also notice that I didn't dig you down even though we have opposing views.
My views on this have absolutely no root in religion. I don't need a book for my morality.
#1 If a woman and a man choose to have sex, the baby is their responsibility. Period. Once the baby is born, it may be better off with other parents, but it deserves the right to attempt live. Whether it is 2 days or 10 years old should make no difference, they are parents and both morally and legally obligated to care for it. How is abortion any different than killing a two day old infant? They aren't very aware of their surroundings, yet no one argues that killing it would be a moral choice.
If we found cells multiplying on Mars, we would scream "LIFE!", but when an organism that grows into a human does this, supposedly intelligent people say it isn't alive. You can't realistically make this argument.
Rape is the one case that I would say is morally acceptable situation for abortion if handled as soon as possible. She had no choice and plenty of emotional problems to deal with. Carrying it to term amounts to a year of torture. Honestly, society is bad enough without more of these genes in the pool. The overall benefit outweighs the cost of a life that possibly (hopefully) never reached the point of awareness. Unfortunately people seem to ignore that there is a loss of life in an abortion.- robberry, on 12/19/2007, -1/+7"If a woman and a man choose to have sex, the baby is their responsibility. Period. Once the baby is born, it may be better off with other parents, but it deserves the right to attempt live."
I'm not sure if you realize this, but you've just contradicted yourself. On the one hand, you've stated "If a woman and a man choose to have sex, the baby is their responsibility. Period." That implies that the man and woman must never abandon their responsibility for their baby, and to do so is an immoral act. On the other hand, you said, "Once the baby is born, it may be better off with other parents." But that latter statement implies that it is okay for the man and woman to abandon their responsibility for the baby, and that it is morally acceptable to do so. You can't have it both ways-- either they must always accept responsibility for the baby, or they are allowed in some circumstances to abandon their responsibility. If the former is the case, then not only is abortion wrong, so is giving up your child for adoption. But if the latter is the case, then you'll have to find some other reason for condemning abortion, because the same reasoning that justifies giving up a child for adoption can be used to justify having an abortion.
"How is abortion any different than killing a two day old infant? They aren't very aware of their surroundings, yet no one argues that killing it would be a moral choice."
In the vast majority of cases, there are considerable differences. Most abortions (about 98.6%) occur before the 20th week of fetal development, when the brain has not yet developed enough complexity to support even the possibility of sentience. (For that matter, many of the abortions in that remaining 1.4% still take place before the brain achieves the minimal complexity necessary for sentience.) In the absence of sentience, there is no compelling reason to grant the fetus any special moral status. If you grant an insentient fetus special rights, then there's no reason not to do so for other insentient organisms of similar complexity, such as plants, invertebrates, and small fish.
"If we found cells multiplying on Mars, we would scream "LIFE!", but when an organism that grows into a human does this, supposedly intelligent people say it isn't alive. You can't realistically make this argument."
The problem here is that you're conflating two different concepts of life. There is life in the biological sense, which refers to any organism capable of ingesting, metabolizing, excreting, and reproducing. Then there is life in the moral sense, which is a subset of biological life, in that it refers only to those living organisms which have a moral right not to be destroyed, injured, or abused. The two concepts are not synonymous. There are plenty of organisms that are alive in a biological sense, but not in a moral sense-- Amoebas, plankton, plants, cancer cells, disease-causing bacteria, etc. That being the case, you cannot prove that a fetus is morally-alive merely by pointing out that it is biologically-alive. If the fetus does indeed have the status of being morally-alive, then it owes that status to some factor other than being biologically-alive.
"Unfortunately people seem to ignore that there is a loss of life in an abortion."
I don't think anybody denies that there is a loss of biological-life. However, the issue of whether abortion involves the loss of moral-life is still open to debate. It may be the case, but so far, nobody has successfully proved this. - hansk, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1And it will be proven once a concensus is reached on 'what is moral' vs 'what is immoral.' So, sometime in the next 2-3 eternities I'm sure a general understanding will be met.
- robberry, on 12/19/2007, -1/+7"If a woman and a man choose to have sex, the baby is their responsibility. Period. Once the baby is born, it may be better off with other parents, but it deserves the right to attempt live."
- hansk, on 12/19/2007, -0/+1You are wasting your time. I would assume the creature above that said "***** abortions..." would hardly be considered sentient and therefore not morally alive. Thus, I understand it's anger. However, getting it to reason it a hopeless endeavor.
- robberry, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1"You are wasting your time.[...] However, getting it to reason it a hopeless endeavor."
If my only goal were to convince Fihiro, then yes, I'd probably be wasting my time. However, there are other readers out there who might share Fihiro's sentiments, but not his stubbornness. My post was intended for them as much as it was for Fihiro, because unlike Fihiro, these people might be persuaded by a rational argument.

- emalen, on 12/19/2007, -5/+4I disagree. While rape certainly indicates no consent and therefore no "blame" (your word) for becoming pregnant, anyone who engages in consensual sex regardless of the situation is "responsible" for the child conceived. If you are using birth control, any method, then you know it's not 100% effective and you must accept the result. Also, the "I've been diagnosed as infertile, so I won't use birth control" is not an appropriate or mature action. If you want to have kids, have sex, if you don't, have a tubal ligation/vasectomy, then have sex. Being ignorant as to the medical possibility of pregnancy and the mechanism is not an excuse. You would still be "responsible" for a child conceived. This is the same reason that your last two arguments are not only misguided but just incorrect and pathetic. Ignorance does not abdicate responsibility. That's like saying "I didn't know speeding was against the law officer, so I shouldn't be held responsible." All the information you need to understand reproduction, menstrual cycles, and pregnancy is available to you. If you choose not to learn, that is your choice, and you are certainly responsible for any resulting child. According to your poorly researched and faulty logic, anyone who just decided not to care about their body and be educated wouldn't be "responsible" for the resulting pregnancy. That is ludicrous! Take responsibility for your life and health and that of your sexual partner. If you don't want to suffer any negative consequences of sex, then don't have any, (especially if you're 16!!!), or at least take all the precautions you can, engage only in safer sex practices, and remember that nothing is 100%.

- robberry, on 12/20/2007, -1/+1"While rape certainly indicates no consent and therefore no "blame" (your word) for becoming pregnant,"
First, a nitpick. You seem to take issue with my use of the word "blame" in this context. I used the word "blame" only because it's a synonym for "at fault", which is the term that Fihiro used. (Well, actually he said "goddamned fault", but you know what I mean. :-) Just wanted to clarify that.
"anyone who engages in consensual sex regardless of the situation is "responsible" for the child conceived."
That's precisely what my post disproves, or at least it does if you accept commonplace Western ideas about morality and responsibility. (If not, fine, but my letter was addressed to those who do.)
"If you are using birth control, any method, then you know it's not 100% effective and you must accept the result."
That's a weird way of looking at things, don't you think? You're saying that if you know something is not 100% safe and you do it anyway, you are not allowed to mitigate the bad consequences if something goes wrong. The problem is that this principle could be used to "prove" all sorts of weird things. For example, I could "prove" that if you're seriously injured in a car accident, you have no right to dial 911 and ask for help. After all, "you know cars aren't 100% safe and you must accept the result." Or I could "prove" that if you're swimming in a pool and start to drown, you have no right to grab the life preserver that the lifeguard throws to you, because "you know swimming isn't 100% safe and you must accept the result." I could even "prove" that if you take your children to church and the pastor/priest/whatever molests them, you have no right to report their crime to the police. After all, "you know that some priests are pedophiles and you must accept the result." And so forth. Obviously these are all stupid claims, yet they are based on the same principle that lets you claim, "If you are using birth control, any method, then you know it's not 100% effective and you must accept the result." For that reason, I must conclude that your claim about birth control is stupid as well. (Or at the very least, it requires some other argument which you have yet to provide.)
"Also, the "I've been diagnosed as infertile, so I won't use birth control" is not an appropriate or mature action."
Again, that's a weird way of looking at things. The principle you're proposing here is that if you are diagnosed with a medical condition, you have no right to assume that you actually have that condition and therefore no right to *act* like you have that condition. Again, this leads to ridiculous consequences. For example, if I'm diagnosed with tuberculosis, would you claim that it is not "appropriate or mature" to refrain from coughing into people's faces? If I'm diagnosed with a malignant cancer, would you claim that it is not "appropriate or mature" to use chemotherapy? If I'm diagnosed with a terminal illness, would you claim that it is not "appropriate or mature" to put my affairs in order and try to spend time with my family and loved ones? Ridiculous ideas all, yet they following naturally from the same principle that allows you to claim that it is not "appropriate or mature" for a woman who is diagnosed with infertility to act like she's been diagnosed with infertility. Again, either your claim is utterly ridiculous, or it requires some other argument that you haven't provided yet.
"If you want to have kids, have sex, if you don't, have a tubal ligation/vasectomy, then have sex."
That's an ironic statement, given that even tubals and vasectomies are not 100% effective at preventing pregnancies. In addition, neither of the procedures is 100% safe, so by your logic, if a husband has a vasectomy and dies from an infection incurred during surgery, his wife must accept the result and never remarry. :-)
"Ignorance does not abdicate responsibility. That's like saying "I didn't know speeding was against the law officer, so I shouldn't be held responsible."
It's also like saying, "I didn't know the food I gave my child had been injected with cyanide by a psychopath who worked at the packing plant"-- which is a perfectly legitimate excuse. (Unless you happen to work next to this guy at the packing plant and saw him putting the cyanide into the containers before sealing them.)
Contrary to the popular cliche, ignorance can indeed be an excuse, provided the nature of the ignorance is not such that a reasonable person should know better. In the case of the speeder, the ignorance isn't justified, because speed limits are common knowledge, and because all drivers learn about them in driver's ed. (Not to mention that the speeder is liable to be lying anyway.) In the case of the mother who unknowingly gives cyanide-laced food to her child, the ignorance is perfectly justified, because cases of deliberate food poisoning are rare, and because the cyanide didn't leave any obvious traces or smells that could trigger the mother's suspicions. You can't just invoke a cliche and expect to settle the argument that way-- you have to actually look at things on a case-by-case basis and make a decision based on the specific circumstances involved.
"All the information you need to understand reproduction, menstrual cycles, and pregnancy is available to you. If you choose not to learn, that is your choice, and you are certainly responsible for any resulting child."
For a typical urban or suburban dweller, this is almost certainly true. The information might not be so readily available to teenagers in run-down rural areas, particular if they are raised and home-schooled by especially conservative parents who have no TV, no Internet access, no "worldly" books or magazines, and no desire to properly educate their children about sex. As strange as it might seem to somebody who has never lived in a rural environment or had any contact with rural dwellers, a child in such an environment might literally have no idea where babies come from, no idea where to get the information, no idea that it is possible to get pregnant by accident, and no idea that his or her ignorance on the matter is even a problem. In such a case, I don't see how the child can reasonably be blamed for being ignorant about the mechanics of sex and pregnancy.
Having said all that, I do think such cases are rare. Not vanishly rare-- there are probably several thousand children like this in the US alone-- but certainly not common. Ditto for people who cannot make informed decisions about sexuality due to retardation or severe mental illness. The last example was intended to be an edge case, and I apologize if this wasn't clear.
"If you don't want to suffer any negative consequences of sex, then don't have any, (especially if you're 16!!!), or at least take all the precautions you can, engage only in safer sex practices, and remember that nothing is 100%."
That's certainly good advice, but it doesn't address the issue at hand. If a person takes reasonable precautions and winds up pregnant anyway-- and remember, even choosing to abstain from sex is not 100% effective, since a woman can never rule out the possibility of being raped-- why is not "appropriate or mature" for her to have an abortion? It'd be one thing if you were arguing that abortion is murder, but you haven't done that, so on what basis do you claim that having an abortion is irresponsible if the pregnancy arose from consensual sex?
- Fihiro, on 12/29/2007, -0/+1Mabye I should have specified, I was referring to teenagers flailing around their ***** =/
Hansk, I bet it made you feel much superior than I, when you referred to me as an "it"

- EvilAnimator, on 12/19/2007, -24/+1137He is 19. She is 16. Technically her boyfriend committed statutory rape, according to Louisiana and California state law. But will anything happen to him? No. The rich and famous get off, but you or I would be going to jail. ***** double standards.
- zspeed78, on 12/19/2007, -2/+93I think in some states the parents have to press charges?

- desqjockey, on 12/19/2007, -2/+14Generally not, the crime is the act itself. That might affect the willingness of the DA to prosecute though.

- HappyScrappy, on 12/19/2007, -0/+2That's not what the ads on the sides of buses said. Here in California last year they ran ads on buses that said "underage is a crime" and indicating that you WILL go to jail if you do this. No ifs, no nothing.
Well, except in this case.

- bingobongony, on 12/19/2007, -8/+18find me all these cases where this has happened to "regular" people and the guy went to jail. I am takking about situations where the girl's family is in no way angry at the guy and not looking to press charges. Where the authorities would have to PROVE (with no cooperation from the underage girl's family) that the sex did not occur in a state or even country where it it legal.
Actually...find me just 3 cases where this has happened. Annnnnd....Go!- desqjockey, on 12/19/2007, -11/+9No. Do your own damn research, its a really clear point if you look at the statute. If you want to claim that the world somehow ignores the law every single time you better back that up.
- mabhatter, on 12/19/2007, -1/+13generally the state does. When my wife was pregnant there were lots of girls "too young" (16 and having a baby, so obviously doing it before) and for the most part the Doctors didn't even bother to report the "rape" as they knew nothing would be done. I'm sure there was some mechanism for somebody under 16 to comply with the law, but in all the cases I saw, the boy would be in the Dr. office with the girl and it wouldn't even be mentioned unless the parents were total dicks.
In this day and age of "sexual predator" lists published on the internet, what parent would do that to their grandkid's daddy? If you do report them and it works out that he tries to be a good dad,you saddle your daughter with a guy that CAN'T work and it's your fault. - bingobongony, on 12/19/2007, -1/+10Did I say it wasn't against the law technically? No...I did not, moron. But EvilAnimator claimed that if this was a regular 19 year old guy and 16 year old girl that he was go to jail. He made the accusation, so it is up to HIM to prove (by giving examples) that it would happen. The VAST majority of statutory rape cases (Virtually all except when the minor is EXTREMELY young) are cases where the girl changes her mind, or her family disapproves of what happened and they press charges and cooperate with the investigation.
Since this would not be the case with this, and Jamie Lynn would obviously been one that would have travelled to many states for her work (you can't take aminor across state lines to have sex in a legal state, but if the minor is across state lines for other reasons, then you can have sex in that state.) it would be literally IMPOSSIBLE to prosecute this case, and no DA worth a damn would waste the courts time and money trying to.
You are saying this happens all the time. I am saying it never happens. And you are asking me to PROVE that it never happens? You can't prove a negative. But if it is common, you COULD prove that it happens by finding an example. - Bing11, on 12/19/2007, -1/+1@mabhatter: it's Doctor-Patient confidentiality, that's why they don't report it. But it's still f'cked up.

It made me giggle - whether or not I agreed with your point. - Chunken, on 12/19/2007, -0/+0The only thing they would have to prove is that he's the baby's father (if he tried to deny it). If he claimed it happened in another state that would be another charge against him (moving a minor across state lines for sex). He's *****. The girls family doesn't have to press charges, he WILL be charged because she's a minor. This happens all the time.
- hmunkey, on 12/19/2007, -0/+3Genarlow Wilson. He was a big deal in Atlanta because he received oral sex when he was 17 and the girl was 15/16 (forgot). He had 20 years or something as a sentence but he got let out after 5.

- jake8689, on 12/19/2007, -2/+10it only if the parents press charges it's statutory if she was 15 that would be different
- thebellmaster1x, on 12/19/2007, -3/+21Oh, it's not just that. The whole system of statutory rape laws is all screwy.
- da_bradler, on 12/19/2007, -1/+2more like the system is criminal, sex laws in north america are a ***** joke. with the way the laws are set up it is illegal for gay people to even have any sort of sex before they turn 18, since gay sex is considered sodomy
- worthbak, on 12/19/2007, -0/+10in tennessee at least, its only statutory if there is a 4 year difference. here, there's only a 3 year difference, so no rape charge (that is, if the law is the same in spears' location)
- elint6, on 12/19/2007, -2/+21Only if she decides to press with charges. Theoretically, he could've sperminated in a cup; she could've scooped it up and shoved the liquid in her vagina. So, yeah, there needs to be proof of sex. Strangely enough, accusations and/or visible signs of trauma in the inner-thigh area is considered evidence.
- lacronicus, on 12/19/2007, -0/+15sperminated? is that a real word?
- Livewire, on 12/19/2007, -0/+11that's the most bizarre comeback I've ever read.
- phazon88, on 12/19/2007, -0/+11Dugg for sperminated. And by the way to other diggers reading the comment above that has happened where a woman gave head then spat it out into a cup and when the guy left she shoved it up her cooch and got pregnant and the guy ended up having to pay child support.
- inhaler, on 12/19/2007, -3/+2That's a misogynist myth. I'm not sure what the effect might be on sperm, but amylase (found in saliva) breaks down carbohydrates. You're also introducing it into an environment of a varying pH. Chance of getting pregnant off that might be rather slim.
- LeeSoong, on 12/19/2007, -0/+5No it is not.
There was actually a legal case where a male doctor was sued for child support by a female doctor who saved his sperm in her mouth and later reapplied the ejaculate into her vagina. She conceived a healthy baby and sued for child support because he wouldn't marry her and wouldn't support the child.
He counter-sued claiming that she had stolen his genetic material without his consent.
The ruling was on his counter-suit. The judge ruled that legally speaking, ejaculated sperm are a 'gift' from the male to the recipient.
(A legal 'gift' - an item given freely without compensation).
Since his sperm cells were a gift, his counter suit was dismissed, and she indeed won child support from the guy she duped. He was forced to pay.
Let that be a lesson, a weird and twisted lesson, to all men.
Courts almost always decide against men and give women the children, the house, the money, the everything, etc... The law is biased.
- LeeSoong, on 12/19/2007, -0/+5No it is not.
