Weed overdose? *****.
I think it would have something more to do with the "cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, ketamine and crystal meth." - TheAmazingBob, on 09/01/2008, -4/+175Dugg for the first person EVER to manage to overdose on weed.
- WafflesID, on 09/01/2008, -28/+138Ok, some people just aren't worth saving....
- EatingPie, on 09/02/2008, -1/+92In terms of being "worth" saving and not caring about her, how about an example?
Robert Downey Jr. was in a hole so deep a crane couldn't lift him out. Drug use, busts, jail time, broken probation. The guy was a total waste. And now he's in recovery and one of the funniest people alive, making great movies including one of the best comic book movie ever made.
That's the thing about people: we have great failings, and great potential. The greatest can fall, the lowest can rise. That's the pain and joy of being human.
-Pie - Darren07, on 09/01/2008, -3/+88I'm pretty sure she had brain damage BEFORE the ODs...
- Dabaum, on 09/01/2008, -3/+68I guess if someone was going to OD on a non-toxic substance, it would be Amy Winehouse.
- inactive, on 09/01/2008, -2/+66The most obvious news of the day
- CoreyTamas, on 09/01/2008, -18/+71She's a loser, yes.
She's got big problems, yes.
She's doing extremely stupid things to herself, yes.
But she doesn't deserve to die. That's going too far. Her contributions to the world have been about a lot of good music. She fails mainly in what she does to herself. She's her own worst punishment. - arielh85, on 09/02/2008, -4/+53I agree - a marijuana overdose is virtually impossible...sure, maybe if you binge on hash for 36 hours you'll experience some pretty crazy hallucinations, but unless you have an underlying mental disorder it should be temporary.
- JohnnyRhino, on 09/01/2008, -12/+55Every morning I update her Wiki page with her "deceased date", and every day I am regrettably proven wrong.....
- thinboyslim, on 09/02/2008, -3/+40Check out the "reliable" sources....
"A pal said..."
"A close friend told us...."
The Sun is *****. - inactive, on 09/01/2008, -1/+37a weed overdose :)
- n0t0kayipr0mis3, on 09/01/2008, -2/+36Overdosing on drugs can lead to brain damage!!?! No ***** way!
Still not going to rehab? I honestly wonder how she's still alive - oilcan, on 09/02/2008, -0/+29water is far far easier to overdose on than marijuana is.
- PHiZ187, on 09/02/2008, -12/+41I heard that Sarah Palin was actually the one who had two ODs, and that Amy Winehouse is just covering for her.
- b8man99, on 09/02/2008, -4/+33The bit about overdosing on pot just doesn't stand up to any sort of investigation. The Sun and The Daily Mail have both printed this without any fact checking and seem to have a vendetta with cannabis. But then they are both trashy tabloids who employ no-talent alcoholic coke fiend hacks.
What kind of message does this send to the kids? Meth and crack are safer than weed? FFS!! - WafflesID, on 09/01/2008, -6/+29Yes, and she rewards those fans by using the money they spent on her on drugs. Should I be sympathetic yet?
- inactive, on 09/02/2008, -0/+22No, you cannot OD on pot. The lethal dose of tetrahydrocannabinol is around 1000 milligrams per kilogram in humans. The most potent Afghani black hash I've ever seen was about 20% THC.
Now, smoking hash is different from smoking pot. You don't smoke nearly as much of it by weight, and the smoke is substantially less dense. But let's assume that the content of the smoke is identical to the content of the hash itself, and that the smoke is about 20% THC as well, which is a drastic overestimation...
And let's further suppose that the bioavailability (how much of what you take in actually gets used before its excreted) of THC is pegged at the high end of 35%. Now for the math:
Let's assume Amy Winehouse is a hobbit, and weighs about 20 kilograms
That would make the toxic dose of THC for her about 20 grams, (see 1000mg/kg above)
Which means, at 20% pure THC content, we can deduce that about 300 grams (underestimation) of the best hash there is contains enough THC to kill Amy Winehouse, the hobbit--because of the bioavailability discussed above.
That is, if every gram of those 300 grams are ingested within the half life of tetrahydrocannabinol, which is about 3 hours.
So, if Amy Winehouse weighs as much as a hobbit, and she was smoking the best hash there is, she would have had to have smoked 300 grams of it in under 3 hours in order to reach toxicity.
It cannot be done. Maybe, if no one needs to breathe any oxygen at all, three people could blow through about 5 grams in three hours. MAYBE.
So, there it is. The sun is full of ***** (surprise!) - mohsenxp, on 09/02/2008, -0/+21A weed overdose results in one thing. Sleep.
- id000001, on 09/02/2008, -6/+27Don't underestimate stupidity, some people can overdose on water
- pablo0713, on 09/02/2008, -6/+27You stupid *****. You can't OD on pot. I'm sure she was on other drugs at the time. Probably a series of coming off drugs taking other drugs AND smoking hash at the same time. NO person on this planet can stay up for 36 hours straight smoking hash. You'd fall asleep within maybe five hours. Most likely, her lame no talent ass was already on speed which would explain her being able to stay up while smoking all of that hash.
- seventhc, on 09/02/2008, -1/+22If you overdose on cannabis..you only fall asleep. You can't really stay awake to smoke enough to do brain damage. You would pass out first.
- Gauthic, on 09/02/2008, -2/+21I agree wholeheartedly. However, if anyone can do it, I she'd be the one to do it.
- nem0, on 09/02/2008, -2/+21It's time to call Keith Richard's doctor.
- WafflesID, on 09/01/2008, -5/+24Oh yeah and there there is THIS GEM:
"She is facing legal action after she pulled out of a concert in Paris just two hours before she was due to headline it."
Yeah, She really does have SOMETHING to give the world...a big ole middle finger. - inactive, on 09/02/2008, -3/+21no one forced her to take drugs, she abused them on her own free will. no one should sympathize drug addicts.
- Subvexer, on 09/02/2008, -3/+21Have they confirmed it's not the same brain damage she had before?
- Jhiaxuz, on 09/02/2008, -1/+18Could you imagine how much food you would need for a 36 hour binge...
- Falldog, on 09/02/2008, -8/+24And thus, nothing of value was lost.
- Thesp0rk, on 09/02/2008, -0/+15wow..the hobbit defense...that's better than the Chewbacca defense. A+++
- inactive, on 09/02/2008, -0/+15Marijuana is not a drug. I used to suck dick for coke. Now that's an addiction. You ever suck some dick for marijuana?
-Bob Sagat - inactive, on 09/02/2008, -1/+16"In a news scoop gone wrong, writers at thedailymail.co.uk were blinded by a flash of the utterly obvious while attempting to write a story on how a 90 pound singer just can't handle several pounds of controlled substances daily whizzing through her veins."
- Ex3poo, on 09/01/2008, -30/+45Why can't she just die?
- inactive, on 09/02/2008, -4/+19Most of that story was gleaned from The Sun, which is a gossip rag that is wall to wall lies. Here's an example directly from the article:
"The singer also smoked pot in a 36-hour marathon session in July where she suffered such bad convulsions, they were 'like a scene from The Exorcist', a close friend told The Sun."
Anyone with a braincell that works will stop reading the article by the last word of that sentence, and some of the more perceptive ones will stop after they realize that what's being implied is that pot causes convulsions. - the2989, on 09/02/2008, -3/+18Wait wait wait... DOCTORS say she overdosed on CANNABIS?? The schooling institutions they went to should be burned down for teaching such *****.
- paiute8, on 09/02/2008, -4/+18This is very sad to see. So many people think its easy to quit. The hardest thing I ever had to do was walk away from a crack house. I am saddened by the lack of compassion for her and peoples fear of the unknown. Sometimes we are to hard on others. Then I have to think how many things have I done wrong. How many people have I hurt by the sword of my tongue. What makes me better than another person? The only thing we do in finding faults in others is to hurt them worse. If i learned anything at all from my past life is hard sometimes and i need help because i am weak. drug addiction is terrible
- guhpol, on 09/02/2008, -5/+19"MAY have brain damage"?????
I am sure she has brain damage!! - krisscofield, on 09/02/2008, -0/+14The lethal dosage of marijuana is around 10 lbs. It said she was smoking "hash", which isn't the same thing as regular "pot"--but yeah you'd still need a metric ***** of it to OD.
- colmatteus, on 09/02/2008, -2/+15In other news, the world is round... back to you, Digg.
- thailand1972, on 09/02/2008, -0/+12It's actually not that hard to overdose on water.
- kr3mliyn, on 09/02/2008, -1/+12You made my day just that little bit more bearable (honestly).
Thanks. - baldgye, on 09/01/2008, -4/+15tbf she looks like she has just suffered from a stroke anyway, I doubt this will impact on her life or make anyone else care.
- IphtashuFitz, on 09/02/2008, -1/+11Talk about a textbook case of self-destruction. Truly sad...
- mythicflux, on 09/02/2008, -0/+9There's compassion and then there's excusing bad behavior. Sometimes people continue to behave badly because the people around them enable that behavior by not giving them the quick swift kick in the ass they need.
- macbookpromat, on 09/02/2008, -0/+9Only if you're buying.
- xsecretfiles, on 09/02/2008, -1/+10She is actually a good singer. It might not be the type of music some of you like...
- Kyrgizion, on 09/02/2008, -3/+12Wow. "36 hour pot marathon" eh? Brain damage?
First of all, if you try smoking pot for even a few hours straight, and keep taking hits, you WILL be asleep before 24 hours have passed, much less 36. Second, POT DOES NOT CAUSE BRAIN DAMAGE! *rips out hair out of sheer frustration*.
***** mail spam. Buried. Besides, what the ***** do I care about Amy Winehouse in the first place? - mohsenxp, on 09/02/2008, -0/+9^ Given their target audience, you can't blame them for this sort of journalism.
- inigomntoya, on 09/02/2008, -0/+9In other news: Blue and Yellow make Green. More at 11.
- xtothepowerofx, on 09/02/2008, -0/+9same reply to 2 different people on the same page within a minute?.. maybe if it had been funny
